About A Piece of Havana
Awww ... Cuba! Just a mere thought will have your hips swiveling in time to the rich mambo beat, which is only intensified if you happen to be drinking a sweet, rum-soaked mojito. Thinking about jumping a plane to Miami? No need! A Piece of Havana brings the Cuban flavor to your Charlotte stomping grounds.
We reward our guests by combining the native Siboney staples of corn, peanuts, and yucca with the Spanish accents of rice and olive oil. Alongside relocated Floridian Cubans, Belkis and Juan Plasencia, is a chef who together create garlic and herb-infused delights of the empanadas, moros y cristianos (black beans mixed with white rice), and of course the classic Cuban sandwich. Feel free to take full advantage of the take-out and coffee-to-go bar and drop by for live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Being our Guest is caliente!

A Piece of Havana Ratings and Reviews
We chose Piece of Havana for my wife’s 60th birthday after a planned trip to Cuba was cancelled due to hurricanes.
The service was excellent, as was the food and music.
We had the Valenciana paella and it was exceptional.
I will return and recommend Piece of Havana to friends.
This place is perfect for Friday nights. A live Latin band will play, as people dance on the narrow dance floor. Then at 10pm, the dance floor is enlarged and Latin line dancing starts. The food is very good and the Cuban drinks are fresh and perfect. Overall, A Piece Of Havana is one of my favorite places to go on a Friday evening.
We had a table to 17 people and, for a group that size, the servers did an amazing job of keeping up with our orders and bringing our drinks. The bartenders also did a nice job and the mojitos were fabulous though they could be a bit stronger. Adding more rum would be perfection. Our only complaint was the music. Having a live band is awesome, but they were way, way too loud. It was great for dancing, but awful for conversation. The website indicates that live music is in the lounge next door, so we anticipated great dinner talk, then heading next door for the music, but that was not the case. The manager and band did lower the volume. We loved the music. Just too much, too loud. Overall, a fun night.
Our family dined here at this restaurant Labor Day weekend for dinner. We sat at a booth & the lighting was terrible. I asked the waitress if they could turn on the chandelier lights that were hanging over the table, but she mentioned lights were on a timer & the lights would automatically come on as the sun set further down???? Well we arrived @ 7:30 pm Sunday @ the restaurant & approximately left around 8:15 pm! The restaurant closed @ 8pm . Lights never came on! I did have a great mojito though! Perhaps management needs to place candles on the tables so that guest sitting at booth tables can see what they're eating! The lighting at the tables in the center of the restaurant is adequate & we did enjoy the food for the price!
Went here looking for good Cuban- the mojito was excellent and so were the margaritas. We ordered an appetizer sampler that was excellent with pork, roauetas empanadas, yuca, tostones and Maduros and a tamal- the tamale was the only thing that was not good. I had the oxtail- not up to Versailles version in Miami, but good. The 3 leeches was just ok. Only 2 choices for dessert.
It was maybe 20 people in the entire restaurant yet service was very slow. There were stretches of 10 minutes where we not see an a waitress on the floor at all. When our waitress did come she was super nice and gave honest suggestions on food choices. Food was good.
The service was good. Slow at first but good. The food was cold. It also lacked flavor. My wife ordered Pan con bistec. (Steak sandwich). It looked like jerky. The portion of meat was weak. She only ate half of her meal. I ordered the same and was not impressed. We have eaten at different Cuban restaurants throughout the country by far this was the worst. We had 10 guests total. The kids meals were fine. (The kids did not know any better) My father ordered a churrasco and It was coolant had no flavor but the sides were hot. We all basically ate what we did because we were hungry and had waited almost an hour for our food. I would not recommend this place. I grew up in Miami for over 15 years and go there about 5-10 times a year so I know Cuban food.
Food was excellent. We are not Cuban so we cannot comment on The authenticity. But there were a lot of Latinos there who seem to be enjoying themselves as much as we were. It was a Friday night and they had entertainment. It was pretty good and not so loud as to be overwhelming. Our waiter was excellent. The place is decorated nicely, but not overdone. We will be back.
We had a wonderful time and everyone LOVED the mojitos and food. We had 6 people in our party and split the two appetizer platters. The Empanadas were to die for. We also got the Pallela and then the Meat Platter for all of us to share and it was so much food. There was plenty left over and our 3 husband's do not eat light. Highly recommended - we will be back for sure!
I have looked for a good Cuban restaurant since I moved to Charlotte and may have finally found it. It reminded me of the places I used to enjoy in South Florida where Cuban food is a mainstay. The food was good. The service was okay. I was there on Saturday evening when they had a Salsa band. It was a lot of fun.
Try this place. I think you'll like it.
The food is delicious and very authentic tasting. The service was a little slow upon arrival but picked up a little as the meal went on. The live music was very nice and authentic as well. I would suggest this restaurant if you want good food and aren't in a hurry.
It was an ok experience. First time having Cuban food and I liked it fair enough. I didn't like how close the band was to the tables, because we had to shout in our conversations just to hear. The waiter wasn't helpful at recommending food for first timers and when the empanadas came the middle was cold. The avocado dipping sauce, mango margarita and the plantains were really good.
Unfortunately, we did not have an opportunity to enjoy a full dining experience here. So I can't I provide a proper review on the food and value. Before I made a reservation for Mother's day, I called the restaurant the Thursday before. I was told there was no Mother's day menu, regular menu only would be available. I had daughter review the menu before I made a reservation. It was good for her, so reservation made on Thursday. I arrived with my two kids, my wife and mother-in-law Sunday. When we arrived, we were told that only a special Mother's day menu was being served. Outside of that, they offered a very limited kids menu (3 different items). It was primarily seafood and unfortunately my mother-in-law was allergic to seafood. And my daughter could not find anything for herself on the new menu. The original waiter explained this was a menu that was already scheduled to be offered. I explained the call I made prior to the reservation and asked to speak with their manager. After a few minutes, second waitress came to our table. She was very polite and apologetic for the mishap, but re-stated what was said by the first waiter, they are only offering what is on the menu. The menu was a $65 2 course meal for 2. I explained I was willing to order the 1 course for 2, for my wife and I, but asked they provide other options for my mother-in-law and daughter. And again, asked to speak with the manager. The waitress left, a few more minutes later she returned (no manager). She stated the manager was very busy and unfortunately, the kitchen was unable to accommodate anything outside of the menus that had prepared for that day. We had to leave, it was a bad experience.
It was difficult to find another place that would accommodate in such short notice. I understand mistakes happen and I was willing try to make it work. But I was very put off by the reluctance of their management to put any effort on their end and even show themselves.
