I ate at ALT a few months ago and thought the food was not as good as I was used to. In particular the food seemed “rushed” - like it was prepared too quickly without attention to detail. It just wasn’t up to what I expected. Last night things were “back to normal”, meaning REALLY GOOD!! Shepherd salad, cacik, hummus & octopus all excellent.
We had a family Thanksgiving dinner at this restaurant. The food was delicious and the service attentive.
The appetizers were terrific but the lamb and chicken was tough and dry on the shush kebab.
We ate in one of their newly 'winterized' outdoor sheds on the 1st really chilly night in November. It was perfect! We had the shed to ourselves, the sliding door allowed air to circulate nicely, and there were plenty of heat lamps. We all enjoyed the food - the Feta Cigar appetizers were delicious, the hummus was excellent, and the Manti was the best I've ever had. Only caveat was the very limited number of vegetarian dishes - plenty of veg mezze, but no equivalent main courses other than 2 vegan dishes.
We had the four course lunch special and thoroughly enjoyed. There was an impressive number of choices for each course. I had the stuffed cabbage which was beautifully flavored with fragrant spices. The borek and zucchini pancake appetizers were delicious.
As always, the food at A La Turka, a very popular Upper East Side restaurant, was excellent and portions were generous. We have had many of the appetizers and entrees and all have been delicious. The Chicken Village, Hunker Begendi, Stuffed Cabbage, and Chicken Saute are especially good entrees and the hummus, lentil soup, shakshuka, and a la Turka salad are excellent appetizers. But, the service is inconsistent. Sometimes, it just takes a very long time for dinner. Most of the servers are responsive but, very simply, others are not. Go to A La Turka and enjoy the consistently excellent food, knowing that it may take you a while to have your meal.
Lamb was a little tough but did come medium rare
The price fix lunch is delicious and the waiter was very accommodating. Unfortunately I think they are phasing out the price fixed because we had to ask for the prix fix menu
Good food, good price
Healthy food, consistent good service
I love A La Turka. I am vegan and so happy that there are delicious choices for me!
I come here every few weeks with friends, and I go almost weekly to the sister restaurant, Blue Mezze, especially when I am dining alone.
Both places are fantastic!
The chicken, a specialty, was overcooked. The beef raviolis, also a special, were not served hot enough and they were very garlicky.
Food is fantastic, and the amount of seating makes this place a great destination at all times!
great dependable food as always.
service was impeccable with great attention.
one thing that could improve is the insistence on one main course per person. if a group is ordering enough appetizers to make up for the main course prices, this should be flexible somewhat specially when dietary limitations are considered.
Went for lunch on a beautiful fall day, dine outdoors. Nicely spaced and did not rush. Had the prefixed - appetizer, salad, entree and dessert - great combination and delicious.
Best Turkish food I have had outside of Istanbul!
Food was outstanding. Loved the dips and salads. Falafel was delicious.
We had a wonderful time. The food was excellent. I had beef kebab it was delicious. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food.We will definitely come back to try the rest of the dishes.
Excellent Food! While the ambiance outside is certainly not indicative of the rest of the establishment, we had great service and overall a lovely experience.
This is a top choice place to eat delicious food, have great service at a reasonable price. We loved the zucchini pancakes, eggplant with peppers, green salad and grilled chicken kabobs. The portions are generous and the bread is also delicious and served warm!
Food is tasteless - no spices no salt - large portions, as the waiter said American sizes. Well it’s also American flavors I guess certainly not Turkish. I thought it was terrible and the service was mediocre at best. I took half the food home because I didn’t wanna waste it and figured I’d give it to the dog. Why would anyone serve such giant portions? It’s such a waste.
Attentive but not overly so service. Delicious dips (mezzanine trio) , and Turka salad. Great mains: lamb shank and chicken thighs for our table. Wine is pricey. Be sure to ask for the $12 cab or they’ll give you the $16 one.
We sat outdoors which was lovely . Bathroom is down a flight of stairs. Recommend !!!
Branzino was excellent. We had a surly server who made everything we asked for was an imposition.
Dined outside. Very pleasant.
Good food, great service, good vibe! Highly recommend
Wonderful family owned restaurant! The food is amazing!
One of my favorite places in NY!
I’ve been coming here for more than 5 years, and I love my dining experiences more each time I come! The cuisine is fresh, tasty, and of the finest ingredients! The wine selection is expansive and if great caliber, and the staff are attentive and professional.
My friend and I had the lunch special and enjoyed it very much. Portions were tasty and large and service was fine. But we sat outside, which was nice but very noisy being right out on the street. We will come back again soon for lunch or dinner.
A/C was not working well and several things from the menu were not available. This place has alway been excellent in the past and I hope they overcome some of these issues.
I have been eating at Ala Turka ever since it opened, and before that when it was on the next block north. I always order Hunkar Begendi, my favorite. Last night it was not only seriously overpriced (about eight dollars more than it used to be) but the meat was seriously underdone and tough. Your kitchen is no longer what it was before the pandemic and $11 for a tiny glass of Raki is outrageous. I will start looking for another place in the neighborhood if things don;t improve radically and very soon. I understand that you have had financial trouble because of the pandemic. So has everyone else, and when you jack up your prices to the extent you have, it simply alienates old customers like me. Coupled with a marked decrease in the quality of the cooking, it's a bad recipe.
Delicious Turkish Food. Outside seating nice set up. Large portions. We shared Mezze trio, feta cigars, spicy cigars. Mains- lamb shank, lamb shish kabob, branzino. Too full for desert but they looked yummy.
Will be back
The food and service was great and appreciated the outdoor seating.
Good service and nicely presented food. All 4 dishes, fish, lamb , chicken and beef were fair, nothing great but not bad.
Excellent service. Special thanks to Umut.
Great food, I've been here a few times as I live near by and love it each time. Recently took a few members of my family with me and we found a piece of a steel scouring pad in our calamari. I was shocked that all the waiter did was take it away and bring us out a new calamari plate (with much less calamari on it). As I am not one to make a scene I continued my night, but next time I advise to at LEAST apologize and remove item from the customers bill. Especially in todays times, cleanliness is extremely important and finding a piece of steel in ones mouth is very unsettling. I expected more A La Turka.
Always reliable. Delicious hot bread to complement the fresh A La Turka salad. Filet mignon super tender and tasty
Unfriendly wait staff. Had to ask for ice three times. Had to ask the order twice had to ask for check two times. Nobody came to check to see if everything was OK. Really not a pleasant experience and I won’t be back
