We have come to this restaurant at least once, but now usually three or more times per year for at last eight years. Sadly, this was one of the the worst meals that we have ever had at the restaurant. The lobster bisque was decent, though the lobster was in large chunks that had sunk to the bottom of the cup rather than spread throughout the bisque as is better. But both of our entrees were downright weak. My wife's yellowtail tuna was either not yellowtail tuna or an inexpensive cut of it. My cowboy steak was so tough that I had to saw it with a less-than-good steak knife provided. In both cases, the pairings with the entrees were mismatches. My wife's wine was fine and the dessert was the highlight of the occasion, a cranberry infused treat that was unique and a nice finish. We will try one more time, but there are more options in Tallahassee now for fine dining and we will start looking elsewhere more often if there is no improvement.
Service was top notch. The young lady who took care of our table was extremely professional, polite and took care of everything with a level of polish that I would have expected in a michelin star restaurant.
The Wine list was very good and comprehensive for most tastes. We had 2 very pleasant selections.
The food was only OK, we ordered crab cakes which were a little bland, eggplant appetizer and escargot.
The chateaubriand steak went over well but the Cobia with risotto was only OK, the fish is a bland fish anyway but was way over salted and the risotto di not hit the point being a littel under cooked ans also very bland.
Bottom line was that for the price of the dishes we expected a more quality even if the portion needs to be smaller.
We had a wonderful time! The food was delicious and well presented. The ambiance was pleasant with a quiet and nice atmosphere without being too "stuffy." The service was excellent. It was expensive but it was well worth it. I have eaten at other restaurants that charged as much which were not nearly as good. I would definitely visit again and refer a friend!
It had been a year or so since our last visit so my wife and I and a friend dropped by for a great dinner on a Saturday evening. I had a soup appetizer special and pan seared Cobia fish. Both were delicious. My wife loved her Caesar Salad and fillet mignon. Our friend said her lasagna was great. We all decided we had been away from this excellent restaurant for too long and planned to return soon. The ambiance is elegant and there is plenty of free self-parking. Highly recommended.
We went to Open Table as Tallahassee was swamped with people attending graduations and restaurants were having a two hour wait... I found A La Provence and could not have been happier. The food was wonderful, the service quite good, and the overall experience exceptional. The Escargots were excellent and my daughter and I shared... I had the Orange Salad (not sure) but delicious, and had the New York Strip, cooked perfectly... we thoroughly enjoyed our chance encounter with this wonderful restaurant. Compliments to the chef and management team - and to Open Table!
The food was excellent, as always. My wife had an excellent spinach salad for her starter, followed by a crab cake appetizer for her main course. I started with a quite tasty lobster bisque, followed by braised short ribs.
For Tallahassee, this restaurant is quite expensive (at least without our Groupon). With a bottle of wine, tax and gratuity, we spent about $115, not including the $40 value of a Groupon that cost us $22.
The service, however, was subpar. I had to ask for water refills. The server was not friendly. When I tried to get the waiter's attention, I was ignored. (And only three tables were occupied.)
The restaurant uses the hallways to the restrooms for storage, which resulted in a downgrade of the ambience. (On the plus side, the restaurant uses table linen.)
The overall experience was disappointing. Had it not been Thanksgiving we would have left from the moment we walked in. But, we thought it had to get better. I think the most disappointing thing was that the waiter was rude and despondent. My family and I were excited to get dressed and have a nice Thanksgiving dinner out. He (waiter) never introduced himself and sighed loudly whenever we asked a question or wanted to order drinks first. He never explained the fixed menu and we didn't understand what we could order. It was a disaster. I have never been treated so badly at a restaurant before this. Also, food was thrown on the plates, it took a very long time for cold food, they were out of butter, pecan pie, and the lobster bisque was crab (actually that was the least worst thing) and the chocolate mousse was served frozen. Our order was wrong from the soup to the dessert and we tried to joke with our waiter but he just rolled his eyes and walked away. We didn't see him for almost 20 minutes. We were ignored on the way out which was interesting because we did not complain there at all. It had actually become comical as well as sad. And for a "nice" restaurant, we never saw the manager. Had he come out, we would have talked to him about our experience.
This meal was not up to their usual standards. The dressing was dry and slightly charred. The ham was dry and a little salty. The turkey was good but the gravy just okay. Perhaps this was all due to the fact that we were in a late seating. I've eaten here many times and will go back but not for Thanksgiving dinner I'm sorry to say. :-(
The food was delicious once it came. A long wait though. Not sure whether it was the kitchen or a shortage of wait staff. We were put in a back room which had way to much light,and was cold compared to the main dining room, and no ambiance. It was Parents Weekend in Tallahassee so they probably opened up the back room to accommodate the additional people this past weekend. Sometime the additional space is detrimental to an otherwise lovely place to dine.
We enjoyed the restaurant. It is a high end French restaurant. So with that comes some expectations. Our waiter was fun and worked hard to be a high end waiter with a little more polish to go. The room we were sat in was not nearly as nice as the food and could use a little decor. The food was great and the price was about right for the food. I'd go again.
Met at A La Provence with a colleague for a business lunch. This happened to be one of those days where the weather was just right for sitting outside in their nicely appointed outdoor patio. Although it overlooks the shopping center parking lot where they are located, the service was good and the nice weather made it worthwhile.......
Our experience was a very pleasant surprise! It was our first time. We wanted a unique , non chain restaurant experience! We were warmly greeted by the staff, we were served right away. The French food was authentic, fresh and full of flavor. We could tell the chef put thought and expertise into our culinary experience. My husband and I had a wonderful time.
We did wonder why there wasn't soft music. It was a very quiet restaurant and the decor was dated but that is not why we went there. The service and food outshines it all. We would absolutely return.
I went with a close friend using a Groupon for two diners. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very cordial. This is not the place you go to looking for a "fine dining", or "high-class" experience. However, this is not a restaurant that even attempts to be a Michelin star establishment. And because it knows exactly what it is and what it can do, it delivers extremely good service to its patrons as well as HIGH quality food. The food is DELICIOSO and it is prepared and delivered with care and attention to detail.
La Provence has been around for awhile. Its always been a fine restaurant with a good but unexciting menu. With the current chefs, La Provence has quietly morphed into a go to place. The food is excellent. The preparations are often inspired. We ate an excellent escargot casserole with melted Brie. The crispy eggplant is to die for. The cheese board also hits the spot. The fish presentation (a special) was the best fish I've ever eaten. My wife loves the Pot eu Feu (short ribs). Excellent duo of duck. Highly recommended.
I eat here often, and every meal I have ever had was beautifully presented, and very delicious!! The service is attentive. I like the quiet atmosphere, and know that I will be able to hear everyone, even if our group is large. I have hosted or attended several meetings, or special occasions in their private room and found the food and service there equally as delicious and supurb!
As a former chef and avid foodie, I can honestly say that my wife and I had a 5 star experience at A La Provence. Every element from the service, to the presentation, aromas and flavors was worthy of the highest praises amongst the culinary community. Best of all, it felt good to know that our patronage helped to support local farmers because A La Provence uses fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Very well done.
