The food and service were excellent, but it could really use a decor update. The location in a mostly-vacant shopping center was off-putting but I’d definitely go back for the great food.
As usual, A Le Provence served excellent meals with superb drinks. Service is always friendly and it is one of the few places where we can carry a quiet conversation. Highly recommended.
Wonderful food , best in town !!!
I hesitatingly schedules my wife's birthday dinner for La Provence since our last visit to the restaurant had been a major disappointment. This visit was the exact opposite. The brie fritas was outstanding (though a little more fruit would be in order). The sea bass was well prepared and tasted quite fresh. and the domenico (sp?) steak was sizable and beautifully prepared. My wife selected a good wine to go with the meal. The service was competent without being smothering. Our only criticism was that the sides for our entree were not appropriate to the main ingredient on each plate. More thought could go into that aspect. A cupcake acknowledgement of my wife's birthday was also a missing touch.
Great place for business meeting. Very inexpensive for lunch
We love this restaurant! Celebrating my daughter getting engaged, we knew the perfect place to go! The service is impeccable! The food is absolutely scrumptious! The atmosphere is classy yet welcoming. We all chose the Filet Mignon and it was divine! We will be back!!!
I treated a friend to a birthday lunch. I called ahead to let them know it was her birthday and said I wanted it to be special. Lunch was nice. My guest was wished a happy birthday by our waiter, as he handed us the menu. That was it.
When we asked about desserts, we were informed that there would be no special complimentary birthday dessert (not that we asked ).That was pretty embarrassing. We ordered a cranberry crème brûlée. It was cold, as if it had just been removed from the freezer. It had a strange taste, not a good one. We sent it back.
Lunch was very good. We had the crab cake appetizer and a plate of fried green tomatoes. For our entrée we had the Florida salad with a petite fillet mignon on the side. It was delicious! We were charged extra for a basket of bread and butter. I was not expecting that.
The ambience was quiet and tasteful. As for a special birthday lunch, there was nothing special about it. You would think they could at least have a place card/memo board wishing the honoree a happy birthday. That would cost nothing. A complementary birthday dessert would go a long way in making the recipient want to come back to that restaurant in the future.
It will be a long while before either of us return to A La Provence.
It would also be nice if the manager or chef would come out to meet his patrons and ask how lunch was. Give it that personal touch.
La Provence has been around for awhile. There was a time where it seemed to be a forgotten restaurant. The food was ok, but not exciting. Service was always polite but never very engaging. Then something happened. The restaurant upped its game. The kitchen began putting out interesting new menu choices, the preparations are spot on and the service has improved. While other restaurants in town may still be trendy, La Provence has quietly elevated itself into a go to choice.
The occasion was "Everyday Dining," but it was Valentine's day, so things were a little busy. The food is always pretty good at A La Provence (try the lobster bisque). The service is generally prompt and attentive. Since we are "regulars" there, some of the staff know our drink order in advance as well as some of my wife's peccadilloes about how she likes her dishes prepared. They are always very accommodating. The place is generally quiet enough to have a business or personal conversation and they have a nice meeting room that seats twenty-five or thirty should it be needed. The chocolate mousse always tops off the day.........
Great service and food. We will be back again. I recommend if you haven’t try it you need to see what you are missing.
A La Provence never disappoints. Love dining there lunch and dinner.
Fantastic dinner. Always a favorite. Best steak in Tallahassee
This is a quality restaurant with excellent food. I would recommend it to anyone.
Fantastic place for a business lunch. Always a favorite.
This restaurant is amazing! We love it! The atmosphere is relaxing and upscale. The staff are professional and welcoming. The food is the best in Tallahassee! The crab cake is beyond delicious and their filet mignon is the best I have ever had! It’s a bit pricey but completely worth it! When they say you get what you pay for in this case you truly do.
Food was very good though I had to settle for my third choice of entrees. Service was very slow.
Had the Parpalle with scallops, fish, shrimp and lobster. The noodles and sauce were excellent. Under the noodles and sauce were a few dime-sized scallops and not much else ... I felt cheated... a $31 entree should “wow” the diner ... it did no such thing!
Celebrating my birthday and throughly enjoyed this restaurant. The atmosphere is classy and upscale. The menu is diverse and the staff is attentive and knowledgeable. I had the Filet Mignon and it was amazing!! A wonderful experience. Pricey but great for special occasions.
We have come to this restaurant at least once, but now usually three or more times per year for at last eight years. Sadly, this was one of the the worst meals that we have ever had at the restaurant. The lobster bisque was decent, though the lobster was in large chunks that had sunk to the bottom of the cup rather than spread throughout the bisque as is better. But both of our entrees were downright weak. My wife's yellowtail tuna was either not yellowtail tuna or an inexpensive cut of it. My cowboy steak was so tough that I had to saw it with a less-than-good steak knife provided. In both cases, the pairings with the entrees were mismatches. My wife's wine was fine and the dessert was the highlight of the occasion, a cranberry infused treat that was unique and a nice finish. We will try one more time, but there are more options in Tallahassee now for fine dining and we will start looking elsewhere more often if there is no improvement.
Service was top notch. The young lady who took care of our table was extremely professional, polite and took care of everything with a level of polish that I would have expected in a michelin star restaurant.
The Wine list was very good and comprehensive for most tastes. We had 2 very pleasant selections.
The food was only OK, we ordered crab cakes which were a little bland, eggplant appetizer and escargot.
The chateaubriand steak went over well but the Cobia with risotto was only OK, the fish is a bland fish anyway but was way over salted and the risotto di not hit the point being a littel under cooked ans also very bland.
Bottom line was that for the price of the dishes we expected a more quality even if the portion needs to be smaller.
We had a wonderful time! The food was delicious and well presented. The ambiance was pleasant with a quiet and nice atmosphere without being too "stuffy." The service was excellent. It was expensive but it was well worth it. I have eaten at other restaurants that charged as much which were not nearly as good. I would definitely visit again and refer a friend!
We brought our family to A La Provence for Christmas Eve dinner. Service, food, and drinks were perfect. We love our neighborhood gem!
It had been a year or so since our last visit so my wife and I and a friend dropped by for a great dinner on a Saturday evening. I had a soup appetizer special and pan seared Cobia fish. Both were delicious. My wife loved her Caesar Salad and fillet mignon. Our friend said her lasagna was great. We all decided we had been away from this excellent restaurant for too long and planned to return soon. The ambiance is elegant and there is plenty of free self-parking. Highly recommended.
Everything was great!!
Great food, great service. Made my birthday a special occasion.
We went to Open Table as Tallahassee was swamped with people attending graduations and restaurants were having a two hour wait... I found A La Provence and could not have been happier. The food was wonderful, the service quite good, and the overall experience exceptional. The Escargots were excellent and my daughter and I shared... I had the Orange Salad (not sure) but delicious, and had the New York Strip, cooked perfectly... we thoroughly enjoyed our chance encounter with this wonderful restaurant. Compliments to the chef and management team - and to Open Table!
Food was very good, great Napa Pinot Noir and service was excellent. My only observation is that the portions are small but understandably since it's French cuisine at an affordable price. Highly Recommend!
The food was excellent, as always. My wife had an excellent spinach salad for her starter, followed by a crab cake appetizer for her main course. I started with a quite tasty lobster bisque, followed by braised short ribs.
For Tallahassee, this restaurant is quite expensive (at least without our Groupon). With a bottle of wine, tax and gratuity, we spent about $115, not including the $40 value of a Groupon that cost us $22.
The service, however, was subpar. I had to ask for water refills. The server was not friendly. When I tried to get the waiter's attention, I was ignored. (And only three tables were occupied.)
The restaurant uses the hallways to the restrooms for storage, which resulted in a downgrade of the ambience. (On the plus side, the restaurant uses table linen.)
Always love our time at this place
Met my brother for dinner early in the evening.
Had a cocktail, soup of the day, salad then the evening special of triple tail. Everything was very tasteful and great presentation. Our server, Tanner, was very informative. We will return.
The overall experience was disappointing. Had it not been Thanksgiving we would have left from the moment we walked in. But, we thought it had to get better. I think the most disappointing thing was that the waiter was rude and despondent. My family and I were excited to get dressed and have a nice Thanksgiving dinner out. He (waiter) never introduced himself and sighed loudly whenever we asked a question or wanted to order drinks first. He never explained the fixed menu and we didn't understand what we could order. It was a disaster. I have never been treated so badly at a restaurant before this. Also, food was thrown on the plates, it took a very long time for cold food, they were out of butter, pecan pie, and the lobster bisque was crab (actually that was the least worst thing) and the chocolate mousse was served frozen. Our order was wrong from the soup to the dessert and we tried to joke with our waiter but he just rolled his eyes and walked away. We didn't see him for almost 20 minutes. We were ignored on the way out which was interesting because we did not complain there at all. It had actually become comical as well as sad. And for a "nice" restaurant, we never saw the manager. Had he come out, we would have talked to him about our experience.
Enjoyed Thanksgiving diner! Was so lovely and the food was fantastic!
This meal was not up to their usual standards. The dressing was dry and slightly charred. The ham was dry and a little salty. The turkey was good but the gravy just okay. Perhaps this was all due to the fact that we were in a late seating. I've eaten here many times and will go back but not for Thanksgiving dinner I'm sorry to say. :-(
Enjoyed the Thanksgiving very much. This is our third time at Thanksgiving and intend on being there for the fourth! Thank You in advance,
Food and service were excellent, thoroughly enjoyable
I had the best prepared Salmon at Al La Provence last weekend. The wine selection was good and the service was excellent. Highly recommend it.
The food was delicious once it came. A long wait though. Not sure whether it was the kitchen or a shortage of wait staff. We were put in a back room which had way to much light, and was cold compared to the main dining room, and no ambiance. It was Parents Weekend in Tallahassee so they probably opened up the back room to accommodate the additional people this past weekend. Sometime the additional space is detrimental to an otherwise lovely place to dine.
Food not bad and price ok but poor service and ambiance
We enjoyed the restaurant. It is a high end French restaurant. So with that comes some expectations. Our waiter was fun and worked hard to be a high end waiter with a little more polish to go. The room we were sat in was not nearly as nice as the food and could use a little decor. The food was great and the price was about right for the food. I'd go again.
We had a nice meal, not outstanding. Had to go to the bar to get our drinks because the server did not know the brands. Cheese plate came with wrong cheese, but that was corrected. Price point for steaks was high, but serving size generous.
