A la Maison Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Did not have to wait for our table; was seated promptly. Very nice, fun server. Food was good; I felt the lamb was a little underdone for my taste. Mussels were okay, onion soup was good. My husband was pleased that he was able to substitute other vegetables with his salmon dish
We went for Sunday brunch on the second Sunday it was being offered. There had not yet been much publicity, which accounts for the 'QUIET" rating; this tends to be noisy room when full. We were happy to find a new, friendly, eager-to-please owner, and please he did. The food was fabulous and beautifully presented, and the service was perfect. We are looking forward to going back for dinner. Highly recommended!
The food was average compared to other French cafes like Parc in center city. The service was pretty good up until our entree which took 30 min to come out after appetizers. There were a lot of large tables of groups. The setup is very Euro & cafeteria style but quite noisy. The food is very overpriced relative to what you get
This is a very mixed review . Our appetizers, mussels, salad, escargot, were terrific. The desserts were also terrific. The entrees, however, were lacking. My crab gallertte (crabcake) was good but somewhat tasteless. The veal dish was inedible and had to be sent back. The second one was still tough and tasted way too much of garlic. The short ribs were good. I usually complain that restaurants salt too heavily- this food was actually too bland. They did take one of the entrees off of the bill but the food is still quite expensive for a byob. Entrees are well into the high twenties and mid thirties. If you go- stick with a variety of appetizers and desserts- avoid the main courses.
Absolutely wonderful experience! My wife had the salmon and I had the lamb...both were cooked to perfection. Medium rare was actually medium rare...how rare is that!:) Appetizers were terrific and reasonably priced. The almond bread pudding was to die for. The atmosphere is tasteful and comfortable. We ate at George's the previous night and A la Maison Bistro was far superior. French cuisine at its best! I also like the BYOB. I much prefer bringing my favorite wine to a restaurant over paying triple the liquour store price (or more) for a wine that I end up not enjoying. Also, the waitress was very friendly and attentive. Great place!
While the food, as always, was terrific, and the service was attentive, I was very displeased with the prices. I ordered the scallop special, which was $28 and came with only 3, that's right, 3 scallops. Very meager sides. I'll admit that they were delicious, but $28 for basically an appetizer-sized serving. The overall check came to $165 with tax but not the tip for 4 people. Considering it's BYOB, and one person had an appetizer (the mussels) for her entree, $165 seems very steep. Love the food, but the prices and/or portions need to be adjusted.
This was our second visit to A La Maison Bistro, the food was excellent. As before, the service and ambiance were also first rate. In spite of the large number of lunchtime patrons, I still rated the noise as quiet, as the noise of contented diners is never a distraction for me!
The Valentine's Day special menu was superb, from appetizers through dessert. The Cote de Boeuf and Roquefort Potatoes au gratin were especially good. Service a tiny bit slower than usual, particularly between the appetizers and main course, but understandable given the night and we didn't really mind.
A la Maison Bistro provides well-prepared French bistro fare. Monday night's calves liver was well prepared with richly browned onions and bacon. Seafood and salmon entrees were yummy. Salads were fresh with excellent ingredients and dressing. Service is friendly and helpful and on a Monday night allowed diners to linger for coffee and conversation.
Food is poor. Only the charcuterie plate was above the norm. What was supposed to be Boeuf Bourguignon was a piece of tasteless (not to mention Burgandy-less),fatty short rib. Trout almondine had no almonds. Profiterole puffs were stale. Service was poor. We had to repeatedly ask for glasses. When we asked for cordial or small wine glasses for dessert wine, we were brought water glasses. Our server was clueless about the food and just shrugged a lot. Any resemblance between this place and a French bistro ends at the door.
Came here 4 weeks ago had a great experience but this time the food wasn't hot enough and for the second consecutive visit they had run out of duck which we were looking forawrd to. They had also ruon out of the beef bourguignon and trout almondine - not too good for a Saturday night!
The food was amazing again, as usual. For this reason I will keep coming back. On this visit, which was a Tuesday, our service was unusually poor. This isn't the norn for this restaurant so I would certainly give them another chance. I have to say it was very busy for a Tuesday so maybe that had something to do with it. The shrimp bisque special was wonderful - not heavy like most bisque soups. The seafood vol a vent was to die for as well. You could really taste the saffron threads. I tasted my friends' dishes and the duck, the salmon and the crab cake were all executed to perfection. The food here easily beats Georges down the road if you're looking for excellent French cuisine.
This is our third time at A la Maison Bistro, and it has gone downhill. Our first experience 2 years ago was the best; the second time wasn't great but we found out that the head chef was on vacation. So we gave it another try for the 3rd time. Now, the food is rather bland, compared to authentic French cuisine. I had the bouillabase, which could have been more flavorful - far from the best bouillabase I have had. My husband's fish was also bland and felt a little dry. The duck pate was nice through - that was the best part, and the bread too. The service was good and I have no complaints about that. But I don't think we'll be going back there again because of the food - not worth the price.
We have eaten at this restaurant several times in the past and have enjoyed the good bistro food. However we had a later dinner reservation(only9pm) than normal this time and when it came time to order most of the specials were not available. I am not sure that I will return if I can not order what I would like to eat. The entrees are pricey though their mussels special was quite delicious
