There’s a $10/person fee for music which is expensive and was not told during reservation.
Do not order daily specials, they’re unreasonably expensive .
This has always been a favorite place for special occasions and pleasing friends who are visiting. The food is wonderful, the staff is attentive and we love the warm ambiance.
The service was very good and personable. Food was served at the same time for a party of 4 and delicious all the way around. Everyone shared their plates wanting to try all the offerings. Being a BYO is a big plus. The grain bread was very tasty. We started a bit late and were never pressured to leave even tho we were the last patrons. Definitely going to return
Had not been to A La Maison for a couple of years.I had SC Quail which was excellent. Very good waiter.
First time there. Food and service was outstanding. I cant wait to go back!
We have been frequent diners at A la Maison. Our past experiences have been good with quality food & attentive service most of the time. Unfortunately, this time both were sub par. The maitre D is always unpleasant but we just ignore his unwelcoming disposition. The server initially appeared attentive when explaining the menu additions & taking our order but when my entree came out with the wrong vegetables, I sent it back so they could correct the mistake. By the time they brought back the correct platter, the food was cold. I had to return it once again to be reheated. They returned with my entree 10-15 mins later & the food was still cold. At this point my husband was completely done eating his entree. I did not send my entree back a third time. I ate it cold. The flavors were good but nonetheless eating cold scallops was not enjoyable. My waiter didn’t show up until I was done my entree to ask how everything tasted. I explained that my entree was cold despite returning it to the kitchen twice. Although apologetic, it was of no consolation for him to check in with us at the end of our meal. In the end, they charged me $36 for cold scallops. It will be a while until I return to this establishment.
Always a good meal, with lots of interesting options. Restaurant was crowded on a Friday evening, and maitre d' was rather unfriendly, but server was wonderful. A very nice place, and one of our regular places to eat out.
Excellent as always! WONDERFUL service, thank you!
Have been to this restaurant many times, this visit was a bit disappointing. The main course(s) were underseasoned and tepid.
Best bistro in the area. Pates and mussels/frites top notch
Well, there was one waitress for the entire lunch crowd. She also seated everyone when they arrived. After an inordinately long wait, we opened our own wine bottle, (she opened our second), I got wine glasses when we switched to red, no bread with meal, (although she had the kitchen bake another loaf, it came rather late for my meal.
My wife called to assure that pate was available. When she ordered it, was told no pate available with lunch. After a small discussion about the call, we got pate.
Waitress did work hard, I tipped her well, but I will not be back.
Excellent in every respect, an absolute favorite. The food is a treat to the palate the staff gracious, our server Roseanne was most attentive , the ambiance lovely.
Have been here for lunch several times and always enjoy the food, with the salmon crepe being one of my favorites - it is outstanding. However it worries me that so few people are in here at lunch time - sure hope they do much better at dinner.
Exquisitely prepared quail and the entire menu. Would have liked more than four fried oisters,
A wonderful place that gives The the opportunity to eat great food and have conversation. No horrid TVs. A calm eatery with authentic French food.
We have been eating a A la Maison since it opened. We've celebrated birthdays and anniversaries, and usually I would have nothing negative to say--but, in the interest of the restaurant--the service was unusually slow (we waited an hour for the entree after the first plate was taken); one of the dishes so hot my husband burned quite badly his tongue, and the plate presentation was slightly... disheveled. We hate to see this usually great restaurant slide even a bit because we love the menu, the atmosphere, and in general the food.
Always a winner! Warm, cozy, friendly and always delicious! BYOB makes it even better! Always go here before and after shows at Ardmore Music Hall! Love it!
Excellent neighborhood gem!! This place wowed our foodie friend !! The food is delicious and bountiful and the prices reasonable. BYOB too!!
My mum was visiting from the UK
Hands down the best Steak Frites I’ve ever had. I’m picky about my steak and it was prepared perfectly. The specials looked great, portions are generous, but not onerous. The seared scallops special appetizer and French onion soup were fantastic, and the various pate and charcuterie trays looked amazing. Great, laid-back atmosphere, with excellent, attentive, friendly service. A friend and I stopped in on a whim, and now we are definitely coming back, and bringing friends!
Always enjoyable. Great variety on the menu is complimented by more options -specials. Deserts are in the same vein - excellent variety. Service was good but could be a bit faster and more attentive - but the place was filled to the walls and I suppose they did the best they could with the available staff.
Very good food and service. There were four of us: halibut, 2 beef burgundy, shrimp, soup, salads.
A La Maison is exactly the restaurant that you can go to as often as you wish and never get tired of the great food, the variety of food and the ambiance!
This was my third visit to the restaurant and it will be my last. The service was TERRIBLE. We made a reservation. We were seated and offered water and some bread. It took about 10 minutes for our server to arrive and she was very rushed to tell us the specials. Her answers to our questions were curt and impatient. It then took about another 15 minutes or so for her to return for our order which she rushed us through. Meanwhile the table right next to us had their server come to the table 5 or 6 times while we waited. Granted It was busy in the restaurant with three large tables and several other 2 and 4 tops. It appears there was only 2 servers and the bus man on water and bread duty. After being there for an hour without any of our appetizers being delivered we decided to leave. Previous to this visit we had a so so experience and one good experience. The food in the past has been good but I had none this time to comment on except for the bread which was too hard (stale). As we left we heard other people complaining about the service and long wait time. One table had asked to see a manager and after an hour no one came to talk to them. The place is obviously poorly managed and the combination of too few servers and a slow kitchen spelled disaster. We had to go to a different place to eat. Very disappointed!!!
Always a great place to meet for diner... consistent food and excellent quality and service
Wonderful, delicious, feels like you have stepped into a parisian restaurant!
While we had wonderful food, service was extremely slow due to lack of servers.
Haven't found another French restaurant around the main line that's as perfect for a casual date night as this one, loved the food and atmosphere really captured the French bistro feel
How the mighty have fallen. This used to be a wonderful place for lunch or dinner. I cannot speak about dinner, but the last 2 out of 3 attempts to have lunch were disastrous. There is only one server for the entire restaurant. She was trying to serve a half dozen or more tables. Our food came out more than forty-five minutes late, and there was one order never received. She was understandably harried, and not in a friendly mood (nor would I have been). In addition, there was NOBODY at the front. That's right - - just the server, whoever was in the kitchen, and the customers. My wife had to telephone the restaurant with an important message for my daughter, and she was greeted with an answering machine that itself was none too friendly.
On top of that, the last time we came, there was a note on the door indicating there was some sort of kitchen emergency and the place was closed.
Fine Authentic French cuisine is at your door in Ardmore, PA on Lancaster Avenue.
We have always loved A La Maison, but this Saturday was a disappointment. The kitchen was really backed up, we waited for a long time, and when dinner finally arrived, it was barely warm. Our waitress was lovely though, and very apologetic.
Love this Main Line BYO. You actually feel like you are dining in a French Bistrot. Food is very good. Highly recommend the Cassoulet, Steak Frites, Chicken Pot Pie. Moules as an appetizer are offered three ways and they were delicious and came with frites. Great French bread too. It is a bit pricey but well worth it. Staff was very friendly.
Beautiful and reliable French food. Excellent service and pleasant ambiance.
Excellent food in a fantastic setting. Feels like you are in a corner of Paris.
Great food, good selection, inpressive edith piaf-like singer with accordion companion and free valet parking which is helpful on a friday night
Be prepared for loud live music on certain nights. Enjoy if you want it or reserve a different night if you don’t
Well, this restaurant had been one of our favorites on the Main Line at which my friends and I (and on weekends, our husbands too) have spent thousands of dollars on meals over the years , but we had a terrible experience there this week. When we arrived my two friends and I were forewarned that they were short staffed and it would take longer. We're all easygoing, so waiting a little was not a problem. BUT we arrived at 6:30, ordered by 6:50, received our appetizers around 7:45 and our main meal by around 8:40. We asked multiple times, our waitress was completely frazzled (understandlably, it was NOT her fault), and the chef apparently MIA. To make matters worse, the Shrimp Provencale at $16 (first time ordering this) was two med-large shrimp with a single piece of a roasted tomato. Insane!
The steak was done as asked, but the sauce atop had dried up, the fries cold, and the accompanying greens wilted and dried up. My friends meals had clearly been sitting (or something) as well. I called yesterday to speak with the manager and he has not returned my call. Very disappointing, as it will be a while before I, my friends (as well as with our husbands in tow) return to the restaurant unless there is A VERY good reason explained to us by the manager or owner? I look forward to the call, I left my phone number with the person I spoke with yesterday.
Well, this is a staple of ours. It is ALWAYS great. Great food, great service (Roe) and great ambiance. Just go there. You will not be disappointed.
everything from food to service was wonderful. Best french onion soup I’ve had in years!
We love this place, and have been many times in the past. Tonight’s food was equally good, and service was wonderful! The only distractor was - we think - that the restaurant’s exhaust fan for the kitchen must have died - our eyes were watering during dinner, and all our clothes are destined tomorrow for the cleaners... we’ll be back - though we may wait till they fix the fan 🙂
