A la Maison Bistro Ratings and Reviews
They lost their chef a month ago and the new one hasn't quite got it right yet. The menu had all the old standbys (hasn't changed in over 10 years!) but they dishes were just a bit off. The scallops were not seared enough and bland, though of good quality. The chicken was a bit dry and the skin not crispy while the sauce was, again, bland. I don't think the new chef has a good touch with seasoning. Other dishes were fine including the duck and mussels. I hope this is just a transition but I'm worried.
We always enjoy dining here as often as possible. Everything about this place is amazing; staff, management, owners, food ETC... We would love to see more vegan/ vegetarian options but still very good! Walking into here makes you feel like " what did I just discover?" The vibes are great and the environment is classy to say the least.
If you are looking for a place that is low-key, classy, chill, GREAT FOOD and a wonderful experience THIS IS THE PLACE! You could take you family there for nice dinner, or take your lover there for a romantic setting. Whoever you go with will be in AWE ! Just remember BYOB
Thank you for making us feel at home

Our last visit to A la Maison was on New Year's Eve. We had the prix fixe menu and enjoyed our entrée choices of sole, beef, and crab very much. We also had a wonderful cheese and paté appetizer that I would love to have again. The restaurant was very crowded but festive and the service very good (kudos to our server Clair). There was a wonderful orchestra and overall we had a very enjoyable evening bringing in the New Year.
a regular patron. unfortunately. took 1 hour 20 min to get the salad. another 45 min for main COARSE. food served just above room temp is the best i can say of the main coarse. creme brulee good. $95 fixed prix new years. wanted to chrg extra 2.50 for coffee. totally unprepared for new years from the kitchen to servers to runners. have to think hard of returning
The food was tasteful however the service was extremely lacking. I have been to a la maison 3 times and each time has impressed me less as far as service goes. They were a bit understaffed as we were told when we went in but our server all but ignored us. The gentleman at the front was courteous and kind which we enjoyed. The gentleman carry water to the tables and bussing was extremely attentive and was the salvation of our night. To him we gave and extra tip. The music was also aptly set to a relaxed volume and was pleasant. My only real issue with our night out was the lack of attention from our server. She was at our table for 3 short passes and only brought us one of the five courses we paid for. This night was supposed to be special and it felt almost lack luster from the start. And for a 200 plus bill I expected more courtesy. We will not be returning to a la maison.
The food was good. The service was okay, our waitress was a little too "familiar" with us considering we just met that night. We were a bit disappointed with a $20 cover charge that was not mentioned when we booked the reservation. They just happened to have live music that night.
Two of us ordered special T-bone steaks medium rare. They were served closer to well done and the sides were never delivered. We commented to the owner who seemed to take little interest in our satisfaction! No way to run a small intimate restaurant!
We have been here numerous times and always enjoy. However, the afternoon of our reservation I received a call from the Bistro confirming our reservation and also informing me that starting Dec 1st they now have a $10.00 per person music charge. I spoke to the owner on arriving at the Bistro and he told me that if you book on line it does not mention this new charge. Although the music was lovely, I'm not sure worth an additional $10 per person. I believe anyone booking this restaurant through open table should be made aware of this additional charge.
Four of us went to dinner tonight. The dinner was lovely and the service was great. However, there was an ensemble playing when we came in. The were a little loud, but ok. When the check came, we were charged $10 per head for entertainment. It was listed on the bill as ‘gift card.’ There was no mention of this charged when we made the reservation nor is there any indication of this charge on their website. We paid it, but the people at the table next to us refused. They had a very unpleasant encounter with the owner. He basically told them to leave. We won’t be going back.
We had a just-OK dinner here - we found the service very slow and frequently had to ask for things. The food was well prepared but not inspired and we had the odd experience of feeling like interlopers - everyone else around us seemed to be a regular and well known to the wait staff. Nice for them but we definitely felt that, as newcomers/outsiders, we got less than stellar treatment. Not good enough for me to want to go back - plenty of other great places around.
Don't go! We sat down at the table and were greeted by a card that informed us we would be charged $10.00 per person because a quartet were playing music. We had no idea before we sat down. We didn't enjoy the music. It made it difficult to hear each other. People near us complained about the charge and were treated poorly by the owner.
The service was very good and personable. Food was served at the same time for a party of 4 and delicious all the way around. Everyone shared their plates wanting to try all the offerings. Being a BYO is a big plus. The grain bread was very tasty. We started a bit late and were never pressured to leave even tho we were the last patrons. Definitely going to return
We have been frequent diners at A la Maison. Our past experiences have been good with quality food & attentive service most of the time. Unfortunately, this time both were sub par. The maitre D is always unpleasant but we just ignore his unwelcoming disposition. The server initially appeared attentive when explaining the menu additions & taking our order but when my entree came out with the wrong vegetables, I sent it back so they could correct the mistake. By the time they brought back the correct platter, the food was cold. I had to return it once again to be reheated. They returned with my entree 10-15 mins later & the food was still cold. At this point my husband was completely done eating his entree. I did not send my entree back a third time. I ate it cold. The flavors were good but nonetheless eating cold scallops was not enjoyable. My waiter didn’t show up until I was done my entree to ask how everything tasted. I explained that my entree was cold despite returning it to the kitchen twice. Although apologetic, it was of no consolation for him to check in with us at the end of our meal. In the end, they charged me $36 for cold scallops. It will be a while until I return to this establishment.
Always a good meal, with lots of interesting options. Restaurant was crowded on a Friday evening, and maitre d' was rather unfriendly, but server was wonderful. A very nice place, and one of our regular places to eat out.
Well, there was one waitress for the entire lunch crowd. She also seated everyone when they arrived. After an inordinately long wait, we opened our own wine bottle, (she opened our second), I got wine glasses when we switched to red, no bread with meal, (although she had the kitchen bake another loaf, it came rather late for my meal.
My wife called to assure that pate was available. When she ordered it, was told no pate available with lunch. After a small discussion about the call, we got pate.
Waitress did work hard, I tipped her well, but I will not be back.
We have been eating a A la Maison since it opened. We've celebrated birthdays and anniversaries, and usually I would have nothing negative to say--but, in the interest of the restaurant--the service was unusually slow (we waited an hour for the entree after the first plate was taken); one of the dishes so hot my husband burned quite badly his tongue, and the plate presentation was slightly... disheveled. We hate to see this usually great restaurant slide even a bit because we love the menu, the atmosphere, and in general the food.
Hands down the best Steak Frites I’ve ever had. I’m picky about my steak and it was prepared perfectly. The specials looked great, portions are generous, but not onerous. The seared scallops special appetizer and French onion soup were fantastic, and the various pate and charcuterie trays looked amazing. Great, laid-back atmosphere, with excellent, attentive, friendly service. A friend and I stopped in on a whim, and now we are definitely coming back, and bringing friends!
