Great macadamia encrusted snapper! Also, shrimp provencal - VERY good! Great food...not so thrilled with the craziness out on the sidewalk during spring break, but can't avoid it on Ocean Dr.

I traveled to Miami with a group celebrating two birthdays. Sergio was so friendly when I made the reservation and the server was awesome and very accommodating. We had a wonderful time and the food was amazing!!! They even brought out the bongos to sing happy birthday to me and my daughter. It was so special. The staff made this a very memorable birthday for us. Thank you so much!!!

Our expectations were pretty high, so that may have affected our judgement a bit. If you’re expecting the food to be amazing, then you might be slightly disappointed. The food is really good, but the details and flavors don’t blow you away. The host was excellent, he offered us seating of our choice, offered information about the menus and specials... did not pull out the chair or anything but was really warm and welcoming. The server was also very nice but not around much, took our drink and food order and then let the rest of the staff take care of us. The manager stopped by to check on us also, always good.

Service was friendly but not quick. Outdoor ambience was fitting for a first time South Beach experience. We ate outside. It was noisy due to the excellent live music. Difficult to have a conversation. Indoor dining looked lovely, but we chose to stay outside. Food was very good but expensive for what we ordered. Martinis were very good. One of the only places to dine for seafood in South Beach. Would recommend is you want a nice menu for options.

Booked for happy hour and for a dinner table at 8pm. Arrived at 7pm for happy hour to be told that we either take our table 'now' and order straight away or they can't guarantee us a table at 8pm as it was raining. We politely said we booked for 8pm however it's fine, we'll eat at 7pm. Then when we asked for the happy hour drinks we were told we couldn't have them as they need to be had at the bar. The lady said if we go to the bar we would lose our table. Eventually after trying to explain sensibly what might work she "allowed us" to but our happy hour drinks and bring them to our dinner table. She also said she knew it was my bday and thay tbe staff would bring out a dessert - that never happened and no mention of it again! It was on my booking notes btw. Also on my booking notes was that my friend was Vegan. I also emailed in advance and recieved a reply saying she will be looked after and the serverwould be made aware...the server had no idea and he was so sorry, she ended up with a pricey plate of roasted vegetables! I felt awful for her. I had lobster tail and it was great. The service was diabolical, but the food was so good. For a place serving food at this quality, with fairly high prices, you would expect the service to be on point at the very least.

Made a last minute reservation based upon reviews I had read. It was a stormy rainy night but we were greeted warmly and seated immediately. The waiter was very gracious and a wonderful host who was very helpful in the menu. We both ordered the macadamia crusted red snapper and were delighted when it was presented. Both beautiful and tasty. The presentation was fantastic. We followed with their best in nation key lime pie. It lived up to the billing. It was visually stunning-I had to send pictures to colleagues, but smooth and amazing.

The setting was a little cramped and noisy but given the weather understandable and given the food quality well worth it.

My wife and I were in Miami for the weekend and a friend of ours who lives in South Beach recommended A Fish Called Avalon for dinner. We typically don’t frequent seafood restaurants, but I trusted my friend’s recommendation and booked a table right away. We couldn’t have been more satisfied. From the appetizer through dessert, the food was excellent. We had the mussels for an appetizer, and the sea bass and macadamia encrusted snapper for entrees, paired with a bottle of very fine wine. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was great, including live Latin guitar music on the deck. Great restaurant. We will definitely go back. Highly recommended!

Food was quite nice and reasonably tasty, though pricey with it; service was extremely mixed: we were attended to by 4 different waiting staff, one of whom seemed to be in charge but was not aware of what those servers he was in charge of were doing, nor what step in the process of taking our order they were up to. Our starters arrived before our drinks order did and even then we needed to remind the waiter that we were still missing a coca-cola 10 minutes after the wine arrived. The staff member who was the most “on the ball” was the pleasant chap responsible for refilling water glasses and clearing plates.
Not sure it was the dining experience we were expecting given previous reviews.

This was our first time in South Beach and we decided to stay at the Avalon Hotel since it had good reviews, was in the art deco section of the area and very close to the beach. We decided to eat there and we were so glad we did. The staff was professional and worked together effortlessly. It was Valentine's Day weekend so the restaurant was very busy. And it was raining, so all of the outside seating had to be moved inside. Everyone worked together; managers, hostess, servers... We were impressed. And the food was wonderful. I had the crab-topped grouper which was amazing. My husband ordered the filet and it was cooked just the way he likes it. We will stay and eat here again on our next trip to South Beach.
