A Fish Called Avalon Ratings and Reviews
We visited for my wife’s birthday. Looking for special experience on South Beach. First, I was disappointed that the outdoor/sidewalk seating was covered with scaffolding. I understand this happens but it took away from the experience right from the start. Since we were celebrating and at a seafood restaurant, I splurged for the lobster. It looked delicious on the plate however, it was very tough and seem to be Over cooked. Not the best for the prices on South Beach.
My friend did not want to sit outside on the sidewalk so we were seated inside at a time table against a wall and with all the wait staff rushing by us. And we did have reservations. There were two big groups and the noise level was deafening. No one seemed to car about making it better even after I complained. Overall it was not a pleasant experience. Had it not been for a great waiter and an amazing drink it would have been a completely terrible experience. They is not to say the food isn’t good - it is - just the overall ambience was disappointing. When I pay this much for a meal I expect a nice atmosphere and only a reasonable amount of noise.
The worst quality/price ever.
Waiting for our table we have been at the bar... sangria with tropical fruit: nice idea but actually was low quality wine with a lot of ice and a shot of mango juice...
Then the dinner: we wanted to try the seafood paella and the waiter suggested to tale some entree as paella take some time for preparation.
Entrees was fairly good (crab cale and lobster soup).
Paella was not a Paella... it was a sort of overcooked pasta in a broth with a lot of garlic and some fish on top.
Prawn and lobster were actually good, but in general for 80$ I expect something much much better.
The overall experience was very far to justify the high cost.
My wife and I had a magical evening; a breezy comfortable dinner on the porch, serenaded by the ouse band and nightlife of Ocean Drive.
Ray, our waiter was professional, pleasant and attentive. The food and drink was awesome. The price was a good value for the experience.
This restaurant is on Ocean Drive and there are many others to choose from. Myself and my wife started with the steamed king crab, not cheap but what an absolute treat it was. Totally recommend this. I had the steak which was cooked to perfection and one of the tastiest pieces of meat I have had for a long time. My wife had the glazed lobster tails which were amazing. These were served with green beans but the way they were prepared tasted beautiful, not something we expected from this humble veg. Service was attentive but not so much that you felt hassled. The servers knowledge and recommendations were spot on. Give it a go you won’t be disappointed, back in the UK now or we would of gone back!
My fiancé and I celebrated our anniversary here and had a great time. We were greeted by the hostess who wished us a happy anniversary. Our waiter, Melvin (sorry if I spelled wrong!) was attentive and very friendly. The food was phenomenal and even made the mussels spicy when we requested it! They were the biggest we've ever seen and were very tasty. We would definitely come back if visit again!
Excellent dining experience on terrace overlooking Ocean Drive and Lummus Park. Food was wonderful. Music was delightful. Perfect weather for Saturday night dining al fresco with my hubby on South Beach with intoxicating live music and ocean breeze. Loved it!
The food is uniformly excellent - everything we ordered (party of 4) was outstanding. Our server was excellent. It's Ocean Drive on South Beach, so the noise level can be a little daunting if you're outside on the terrace, as we were. Overall, though, great place.
Service wasn't what I expected. No reccomendations from the server. Our questions and concerns were not addressed. Steak wasn't consistent, some areas overcooked and some undercooked. Asparagus was limp it was so overcooked. I guess we should have gone off the beach for a nicer meal.
Very delicious food. Raw bar - perfect, especially oysters. Main course - fish, wonderful. As it was our wedding anniversary, restraunt chef provided us with a complementary dessert. It was also perfect. Very good service. I'll recommend this place for special occasions.
