Wonderful birthday celebration. Great menu. Will be back
We love this restaurant. We were disappointing in the servers suggestion of wine. We told him what we liked and we all most ordered the Woodward Canyon that was $81 I believe, but for what we told him what we were looking for, more of a heavier oakey wine,he suggested a Italian wine. It was ok,but not we were looking for and it was $71. He was busy and we did not feel we should bother him,but we will do something next time. When you spend that kind of money you should love it,I think.
My husband and I had dinner there a week ago for the first time and were really impressed with the food and service. I went back for lunch with couple of friends a week later. More impressed as it wasn’t as crowded as the last time, which was Friday night. a Cena ranks high on my list of favorite restaurants!
Have dined here many times over the years. Food is always good. Prefer lunch as noise level at night can get energetic!but food never disappoints.
Excellent food, great service nice atmosphere.
Without question the best restaurant in Portland. My husband and I are regular customers and have never failed to have a stellar meal every time we visit. The staff is warm and personable, the chef excellent and the owners are regularly on hand, making sure every detail runs seamlessly. This restaurant is a gem with simply fabulous food. Don't miss it!
Best restaurant in Portland. Outstanding EVERY time.
Fab as always!!
I am new to Oregon and so frequently on the search for good places to eat. A Cena is a gem. Met a small group of friends for Saturday lunch there. The service was fantastic, all the staff were friendly and knowledgable and the food was amazing.
I have had A Cena on my list for quite some time to try and wish I hadn't waited to long. I should have known it being housed in the same spot my old favorite Assagio's was way back when was a good sign. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Great menu and location. But you will keep coming back for the food. From the heaven sent cheese plate and honey drizzled figs. To the perfect salads, pastas and pizza, all complemented with their generous wine selection. The highlight was the Tiramisu. I have hunted for years to find a Tiramisu as good as the ones I had while traveling Italy. Some came close but never quite nailed all the elements. A Cena's tiramisu was perfection every bite better than the last. The perfect way to end a perfect meal.
I loved the lamb shank on polenta. I appreciate the sophisticated ambiance and care.
A Cena never disappoints. We brought some friends who had never been and they really enjoyed it. The fresh house made pasta is always delicious. Great Italian wine list, fresh ingredients. The semi-freddo dessert was amazing.
The service was great and the food terrific. We had the lobster ravioli and it was delicious. We highly recommend the restaurant for any occasion. Our server Laurel was knowledgeable and patient, and she made the evening even better.
Classic and inventive Mediterranean food freshly prepared graciously served. Visited 3 times since early Jan! Yum!
Rapidly becoming one of Portland's fine dining establishments.
As always the food was great. I did lower it by a start for this visit for the food as my main course, the Agnolotti did contain remnants of the Lobster shell and scales that was I bit into.
This visit was on Valentines Day, and the wait staff was doing a superb job on making sure all tables were being handled in a timely manner. My main problem, is that smaller tables were added for the Holiday, making the seating very close to other tables.
This resulted in me being constantly bumped by the wait staff all thru my meal. I had to get in the habit of anticipating them moving to the tables to my left to dodge them and the food they were carrying to the tables. Once or twice would have been okay, but this happened during the course of my entire meal, really taking away from its enjoyment in the setting.
Then to top things off, I was clocked in the head by one of the Staff with his handful of menus as he veered around to help two people at a table to to my left adjust there table so that it was less wobbly.
I have been here many times before, and I know it can be a better experience. I just feel for Valentines Day that tried to fit to many people in the dining area that it can comfortably accommodate. This just managed to take away from the experience I am accustomed to when eating at this great restaurant.
This is a close-quarters restaurant on a busy night, but never too noisy. The menu is not extensive, but the wine list is. What the menu lacks in length it makes up for in quality. The service, even though we were there on a very busy night, was prompt and knowledgeable. While it is fairly expensive, it is a good value for the money. Also, whose wishing to be frugal can order the pizza, which equals anything else on the menu.
a Cena is a unique restaurant and one of our favorites that we like to go to on special occasions. The food is always amazing, the service engaging and attentive, and the atmosphere cozy. The menu always has a few delicious surprises and the pastas are outstanding. And the desserts...the best canollis on the planet!
It was Valentine's Day so it was pretty busy. The staff were friendly and attentive. The managers came by to check how we were. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. The food was great--fresh pasta and locally sourced ingredients. I am vegetarian and has probably the best eggplant parmigiana that I've ever had! It is moderately priced so with a very tasty salad, two glasses of wine each and a cannoli to share for dessert along with our main meal it was over 100.00 but it was a special occasion so that was OK. Everybody's food around me looked really good as well! The table to the right had the lobster, corn, marscapone pasta dish and it looked delicious! We will return on our next celebration date.
Although the tables are pretty close together, you still feel like you have your privacy. I had the rigatoni which was really good, i would order it again. They have a nice wine selection and some nice signature cocktails. We will go back.
They were well-prepared for my allium allergy restriction. The restaurant is both romantic and quaint, sophisticated, yet relaxed with a Victorian interior. Lots of nooks to dine alone or with someone special. Please leave the little ones at home and just enjoy the lovely music. My server, Lauris Had recommendations at the ready. Even with the appetizer portion, there was enough to take home for my lunch tomorrow. A lovely bread program featuring house-made super thin breadsticks and a light focaccia paired with a fruity olive oil. I took a signature pizza for the office crew. I will return. A very good pick
Delicious pasta, veggies... everything I had! The lobster agnolotti is divine, very creamy with the corn flavor and chunks of lobster. For $45 (large portion) though, I could have used more lobster :)
Everything was really good and the service was great too. Pricey meal, but YUM!! It's nice that you can make reservations online too.
We are never disappointed when we go to A Cena. Our last visit was no exception. The food was excellent and so was the service and the drinks. Can't wait to go back.
Food was very good but for when the lobster bisque came, it was only slightly warm, as was the lobster ravioli. Not sure if it was because it was so busy but we were disappointed for the first time.
Great food, very accommodating waitstaff, excellent service.
We LOVED our time at a Cena Ristorante! We made reservations (would highly recommend!) and were seated within ten minutes of arriving. Our waitress was fantastic--super knowledgeable, fun, and attentive. Our cocktails were so tasty--everyone got something different and we were all so impressed. We got the Fritto Misto for an appetizer and bread--SO good! Literally ALL of our main dishes were to-die-for. We all passed around parts to share. Oh and the desserts!! WOW. Truly, such a wonderful restaurant with a great atmosphere and AMAZING food! Will definitely be back.
Delicious, seasonal small plates, a bottle of Aglianico from a diverse list of Italian wines, a complimentary dessert to celebrate a birthday and a forty year friendship—it was a perfect lunch! Service was exactly what it should be.
This place is fantastic! We discovered A Cena on our first trip to Portland after reading about it in a VIA magazine. We loved it so much, we make it a point to include a dinner there whenever we are in town. Everything we have ordered has been delicious and the Agnolotti is a must try! Oh, the Tiramisu is the best I have ever had!
Wonderful meal. All four entrees were delicious.
Do not make a bar reservation if possible. It’s extremely crammed. But the food was PHENOMENAL. It really was one of the best meals I have ever had.
Disappointing especially grilled vegetables, eck! I think food was mediocre, noise level too much but the margarita was excellent.
We've been coming here for a couple of years, for different occasions both personal and business. Really, it never disappoints.
Loved everything! Atmosphere, service, and especially the food!😋
Stellar restaurant, excellent food, great wine list. Highly recommend. Some of the best Italian food I’ve had, best in Portland that’s for sure.
A Cena always surpasses our expectations. It is one of our favorite restaurants of all time. The menu is one of those that has so many enticing offerings that it is hard to make a decision. The ambiance is cozy, yet elegant. The wait staff are great... friendly, helpful and make the experience fun. Thank you A Cena!!
Another visit, another wonderful experience. The food and service are excellent. A comfortable, if a little pricey place that I count in my go-to places for authentic Italian food.
As always a Cena is a standout. Easy to reserve, the staff is very friendy, sometimes to include the owner. The food is authentically Italian. some dishes I've not found outside Italy.
You can make a meal of the antipasti list or enjoy pasta or secondi, and then there is dessert if
you have any room left.
Delicious food as always. It’s easy to make a reservation. The wait staff is helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We make this our destination on special occasions.
Outstanding from appetizers through dessert. Warm, friendly service. Pasta is homemade and excellent with a variety of options. Check the menu online!
