Some of the best Italian food in the Portland area. I keep coming back and it is always great.
Outstanding in every way! The food was fantastic and very well priced. Service was outstanding as well.
Once again we were completely satisfied with our meal and dining experience. The staff was great and the food top notch. Missed out on the Tagliatelle but will be back to get it next time :-) Well worth it on all levels!
All of the pasta is great. The polipo is grilled to perfection. Great place!
A Cena is one of our favorite restaurants in Portland. The lobster agnolloti is to die for -- one of the best things you will ever put in your mouth. The pizzas are also great. We also had the lamb dish but I would give that a less than perfect review. One of the pieces of lamb was tough and hard to cut. The wine and drinks were great too, and the service excellent. We come here often for special occasions and always enjoy it.
Exceptional and creative food. Professional, attentive servers. Best food in Portland!
Our server was so nice and competent and then blew it at the end with a spill of water that got on our birthday celebrant's cards and gifts (including a book). She managed to wipe it all off, but with some chagrin. We were very pleased up to that point, and he apologized, and placed a new table mat, but the damage was done.
I really liked the food here, the pastas had a slight sweet note to them, which for me felt a little off, but would go back again any day for the lobster angoloti
I eat there with a variety of friends and occasionally a date. Tables pretty close for conversation but better in the little corners. Food always prepared well, as listed and always willing to accommodate food allergies or issues. Never been disappointed!
Great flavors: classic country Italian cuisine. We enjoyed every minute
I have been here a few times of the years and was a little disappointed in the experience. I wanted to take my boyfriends parents to a nice place that I remembered had good service years ago but was a little disappointed in the service overall. The food was delicious and kind of expensive which I knew going into dinner but was kind of annoyed that we had to really flag down our waiter and wished he was more into us having a good time but it just felt off and I wasn’t a fan of the tiramisu. Overall good was delicious but not sure I would choose this place to celebrate a special occasion next time.
Excellent as always. Very dependable for quality, choice, service & ambience. A local favorite & certainly my favorite.
The owner Chris is awesome. And wait staff is consistent
The garganelli pasta was and is always amazing. We’ll be back again for sure!
Great service, always being checked on and attentive by both our server and the manager. Food was hot and served in a timely manner and was DELICIOUS! Definitely would recommend this place and we will be back :)
Easily one of the best meals I have ever had in my entire life! It was absolutely perfect for our romantic anniversary dinner. We would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!
Sadly, our fish was so full of bones it was inedible Ansel ruined our dinner! That is the second time that has happened there so I will not be back!
Though I've enjoyed the food and service at A Cena many times in the past, this time the service was abrupt, intrusive and inconsiderate. The food was ok, though not as good as I'd remembered. I hope this restaurant isn't slipping.
It was great! Noise level a bite loud, but the food is amazing and the wait staff is great. It was our second time there and enjoy it throughly.
My favorite Italian restaurant!
Great service, wine list, house made pasta...creative classic menu!
Three couples out for dinner all agreed their cocktails, wines, main dish & dessert were delicious. Wait staff attentive without being intrusive. In my opinion as a lover of Italian food, a Cena is the best of the best in the Portland area!
Fabulous food and nice ambiance.
Very traditional and good sized portion. The ambience is family style homey feel.
We came here for a friend’s birthday and didn’t enjoy our service or food. We will not be returning. Would recommend not attending it you’re on the younger side (the service was dramatically different on the next table...).
If you end up there, order the primi’s at half size. Not full.
Our waitress, Angie, was the bomb! We had the steak special and it was cooked to literal perfection. We also sat at the best table in the house with a very romantic view of the street. This was my first time in Portland and I swear I will come back here every chance I get! You guys have earned a lifelong fan!
Way too noisy on a Saturday evening to enjoy your meal. Excellent -- if high fat -- food but noise and crowds chaotic. Also seemed expensive for Portland. Nice staff. Difficult conditions.
Creative dishes. Attentive waiters and support staff. Be back soon.
Wonderful birthday celebration. Great menu. Will be back
We love this restaurant. We were disappointing in the servers suggestion of wine. We told him what we liked and we all most ordered the Woodward Canyon that was $81 I believe, but for what we told him what we were looking for, more of a heavier oakey wine,he suggested a Italian wine. It was ok,but not we were looking for and it was $71. He was busy and we did not feel we should bother him,but we will do something next time. When you spend that kind of money you should love it,I think.
My husband and I had dinner there a week ago for the first time and were really impressed with the food and service. I went back for lunch with couple of friends a week later. More impressed as it wasn’t as crowded as the last time, which was Friday night. a Cena ranks high on my list of favorite restaurants!
Have dined here many times over the years. Food is always good. Prefer lunch as noise level at night can get energetic!but food never disappoints.
Excellent food, great service nice atmosphere.
Without question the best restaurant in Portland. My husband and I are regular customers and have never failed to have a stellar meal every time we visit. The staff is warm and personable, the chef excellent and the owners are regularly on hand, making sure every detail runs seamlessly. This restaurant is a gem with simply fabulous food. Don't miss it!
Best restaurant in Portland. Outstanding EVERY time.
Fab as always!!
I am new to Oregon and so frequently on the search for good places to eat. A Cena is a gem. Met a small group of friends for Saturday lunch there. The service was fantastic, all the staff were friendly and knowledgable and the food was amazing.
I have had A Cena on my list for quite some time to try and wish I hadn't waited to long. I should have known it being housed in the same spot my old favorite Assagio's was way back when was a good sign. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Great menu and location. But you will keep coming back for the food. From the heaven sent cheese plate and honey drizzled figs. To the perfect salads, pastas and pizza, all complemented with their generous wine selection. The highlight was the Tiramisu. I have hunted for years to find a Tiramisu as good as the ones I had while traveling Italy. Some came close but never quite nailed all the elements. A Cena's tiramisu was perfection every bite better than the last. The perfect way to end a perfect meal.
I loved the lamb shank on polenta. I appreciate the sophisticated ambiance and care.
A Cena never disappoints. We brought some friends who had never been and they really enjoyed it. The fresh house made pasta is always delicious. Great Italian wine list, fresh ingredients. The semi-freddo dessert was amazing.
The service was great and the food terrific. We had the lobster ravioli and it was delicious. We highly recommend the restaurant for any occasion. Our server Laurel was knowledgeable and patient, and she made the evening even better.
