95 Ocean At The Nonantum Resort Ratings and Reviews
Our experience got off to a bad start when we walked in the front door and couldn't find the restaurant. we were eventually pointed down the hall to what felt like alternate accommodations rather than the usual restaurant. our table was against a cold window. the bus boy looked more like a janitor in a tee shirt with a walkie talkie on his belt. he slammed down saucers in place of bread plates and made a comment "these are a little small but they'll do". the bread was hard and soaked in oil, literally inedible.
the waitress was at least pleasant but when i asked for her recommendations for a dry chardonnay she suggested a riesling. at that point i gave up on the evening, choked down my dry dumplings and crudely dressed salad and pretended to be satisfied so as not to embarrass my company.
thumbs down. the only part of the experience i can speak well of is the waitress and hostess were nice.
The Legend of Chrissy...
We had read reviews about the restaurant in selecting our choice. Many mentioned "Chrissy" as the server that makes the experience special. We arrived. Forgot to ask for Chrissy. Seated, we reviewed the menu and ordered some Champagne. The server came with the bubbles and, realizing I had forgot to ask, I looked at her nametag. It was Chrissy! I told my new wife, it was our honeymoon, "We were in the presence of greatness." Very fun. And we ran with it all night, referring to Chrissy as "Rockstar". She IS a delight. Wonderful dinner and fun evening. The Maine Coast Chowder is AMAZING! The whole lobster is an EXPERIENCE. Only suggestion...put the vegetables on a separate plate as the lobster juice ran all over them and pooled on the plate. Small issue. All else was wonderful. And Chrissy is too!
Wonderful service and wonderful food. Perfect views and beautiful décor. Lobster dinner was amazing. Servers are the best we've ever had. Chrissy was our server on the last night at the hotel and her personality was so uplifting and energetic- such a wonderful experience.
We have been fans of the Nonantum restaurant for years. Of course we looked forward to our favorite dishes. The new menu is very limited, and quality varied with the dishes. The Lighthouse salad is gone, new choices were disappointing. Two of us had the scallops which were very good. I ordered vegetables instead of risotto, they were hard and undercooked. The two others had the flat iron steak. It was so tough, even done medium rare, you could barely slice it.
The new room we were seated in has beautiful views and is nicely decorated though the lighting was too bright after sunset.
We welcome back the old menu.
went to celebrate my husbands retirement, there was 4 of us, even though there was a wedding going on, it was quiet and we got great service the food was hot and excellent, are server was wonderful, and at the end of the evening she took off the cost of some of our apps, that was so sweet. we will go back again when we return every year!
When my husband and I arrived at 95 Ocean we wondered whether we had made a mistake. The restaurant is in a family centered resort (we had not known this) and it was very noisy. When we arrived at 7:30pm we were first seated in an area surrounded by large tables with many young children--not what we wanted for our first night in Kennebunkport. However, the hostess re-seated us in a quieter corner table away from the noisiest groups, and the evening improved. The food was excellent--carefully prepared and beautifully presented. Our starter was a beet carpaccio, ample enough for two, and delicious. I had pan seared scallops served with a roasted garlic risotto. My husband had halibut (I think it was roasted). In both dishes the seafood was absolutely fresh. By the time we had dessert, an excellent chocolate bombe, the families were mostly gone and we could enjoy the guitarist who had bravely played on in spite of the hubbub. We recommend 95 Ocean for the food--but try to go after the family rush!
We chose this restaurant because it was walking distance from where we were staying for a couple nights. I'm so glad we did! We had a table overlooking the water that was very nice. The service and food were both fantastic. The portions were generous...my daughter and I shared the kale salad and there was PLENTY for both of us. The dressing on the salad was delicous. I would definitely order it again. We also shared the sea scallop dish. The scallops were perfectly seasoned and cooked well. I would also order that again.
If we are ever back in the area, I will go back to 95 Ocean.
We could not have enjoyed our meals more.
The freshness and quality of the food was apparent. In fact the garden where the herbs and lettuces are grown was right outside the window. I desperately wanted to finish my meal but only my capacity stopped me. The roAsted chicken breast combined with duck sausage was an extraordinary taste. My partners flat iron steak was delicious.
The music was enjoyable, both pianist and vocalist.
If I lived here I would return often.
The food was very very delicious, salmon for my wife and I had scallops. The wine selection was good and the service and atmosphere were outstanding. We will eat there again when visiting the Kennebunkport area; the price was reasonable and the dining experience wonderful. What else can I say except that it was a terrific find.
Our first visit there and we loved it !! Bartenders and wait staff were amazingly friendly, and the food was delicious and fairly priced. Only noise there was a wedding there that evening, but even that was kept well isolated for the most part. Can't wait for visit again!
We celebrated the Fourth of July at the Nonantum Resort's Lobster Bake. We attended this event four years ago with our family and had the best food and the best view of the fireworks. We wanted to share this special experience with some friends from out of state, but were disappointed that the food was not as good as before, some had cold lobster, and they did not serve their signature ribs, and there was no clam chowder! We had to hunt down the server to removed used plates a time or two. When it was almost time for the fireworks to start, people started appearing (that had not been there for dinner - maybe there were staying at the resort, but certainly not all of them) and sat or stood in front of us blocking our view. We had to ask the people standing to sit, as we had paid a lot to enjoy this meal and the view! We have eaten inside at the restaurant and enjoyed a wonderful meal. Hopefully the Lobster Bake will be better in future years.
One of the advantages of dining at this restaurant was there was ample parking so we did not incur the price of a valet. After checking-in, we were brought to a table by a window overlooking the grounds. My wife's entree of halibut included fingerling home fries, asparagus and lobster cognac butter. Her halibut was moist, but what stood out was the flavor of the fingerling home fries. I sought nutrition in the form of sea scallops with roasted garlic risotto, broccoli rabe and a pomegranate emulsion. Her entree was generously portioned while I received a total of 3 scallops. Let me pull out my calculator – it sure looks like I paid $10 per scallop. On our return home a local market was offering fresh New Bedford sea scallops for $12.95 per pound. Color me red with rage though admittedly they were delicious.
The main course (Halibut) was cooked to perfection, but the sides were a little on the cool side, tasty but cool. The Apps were very good. The bartender did not know how to make a Cosmopolitan and it had to be redone. The Martini was a light pour, but correctly made.
Service was friendly and very attentive.
With the chef - Steve North - leaving last year, was wondering if 95 Ocean would be as good with the 'new Steve' as Chef. It was fan-tastic. Lots of choice, hard to put your fork down, well prepared and creative food. This restaurant, unlike other restaurants in Kennebunkport, remain high quality and interesting no matter what the year. Thanks for doing such a great job, including having wonderful staff. Looking forward to visiting again in July.
Enjoyed 95 Ocean quite well. At there while staying at the Nonantum Resort (where the restaurant is located). It is a beautiful room overlooking the Kennebunk River. Service was lovely, ambiance very pleasant. I was not crazy about my flat iron steak, but to be honest, this is Maine and seafood is probably what one should ordered. I'd had fish for lunch. I will say kudos to the staff for professional and efficient service despite the fact that a HUGE wedding was taking place outside on the grounds. Overall, this is probably one of the better restaurants in Kennbunkport and I enjoyed it.
We were lucky enough to dine here as a kickoff to the Kennebunkport Prelude. Lovely wait staff, great wine list. The duck was superb.
The only suggestion was to have a bit more chunks of lobster in the Lobster Risotto. Ours was missing any significant amount of lobster.
