8th & Union Kitchen
The beverage program offers traditional, house, and Tiki cocktails that are crafted by hand. There are 14 draft beers focused on crafts with a moderately priced small distribution wine selection.
More than being just a restaurant, we want to offer our establishment as a neighborhood hub to the Wilmington community. A place that people will feel comfortable coming in wearing a t-shirt and jeans or business attire after a long day in the office.

Live Music Sunday Brunch.
Great food and service. For those on a gluten free diet because if celiac or intolerance, this place rocks!
Had great experience for lunch and dinner previously.
For brunch the food was good but the service was very slow.
Not the norm but it was disappointing.
We really enjoyed our first visit to 8th and Union Kitchen. Great atmosphere and food. The live jazz was an awesome touch! We will be back and plan to bring our family!
I have been to 8th and Union multiple times and the food and service is always great! This time I went with family and enjoyed delicious appetizers, wine and dinner. Our waitress (wish I had remembered her name!) was outstanding and took excellent care of us!
Creative menu. Every nice enjoyed the experience.
Love this place! Everyone loved the food, and it's a dream for the gluten-free members of my family -- really delicious options and the chef understands allergies well. Great atmosphere too; relaxed, yet nice ambiance.
It took ages to get our meals. And the place wasn’t full by any means.
We love having so many GF choices but I wish they would improve their dips and sauces that accompany things like the calamari and fries etc.
they skimp on the sides of fries leaving kids wanting more but frankly I’m good with that.
It’s a good place to eat just needs a little bit more to bring it up in my view.
Our server, Chris, was awesome and super friendly and informative for our first time being here! Looking forward to brunch soon. So many GF options that is was fantastic
Went for the gluten free brunch options and was not disappointed! Great food and drink selection, the "make your own" Bloody Mary bar was a nice touch. Food was great and the dining area was very nice and quiet as well. Definitely going again.
My wife and I were in Wilmington for a wedding this past weekend and on our way out of town back to Philly, we decided to have brunch. What a find! I had the mushroom benedict and she had the swiss and mushroom omelet. We cleaned our plates. Any my bloody mary was the best! VERY reasonable prices here. Oh! And the Sunday brunch live music was fantastic! We'll be back.
We had an early dinner after a show at Delaware Children’s Theater, and everything was great— from the beer choices, to our food, to our fun server, Joanna!
This is our main go to place in the Wilmington/Philadelphia area. One of us needs gluten free so thats a priority. But they go way beyond satisfying that need with excellent choices/variety, from tacos of all sorts, to flank steak made to perfection, to unique dishes like PHO. And great beer selections on the board each week. Happy hour beers are $3, wine $5. Friendly and efficient service. In short we just love the place.
Went there for dinner with family and friends. Tasty food great beer list.
This is our favorite local restaurant. Especially love Bruce and Sam jazz brunch!
Excellent selection of beer and wine. Good range of food choices. We enjoyed a pleasant evening.
So this was my 2nd time here for brunch. The first time was about a month ago and it was great however today not so much. I read some reviews that said the food was subpar and didn't understand but now I do. The first dish, country potatoes, was not hot. I asked them to add American cheese and they just plopped cheese on it. There was very little ham. But the worse part was that there was a hair in my food. While I really didn't want anything, as that spoiled my appetite, but ordered a replacement meal. I got the mushroom and swiss omelette. I was quite confused because all of the mushrooms were outside of the omelette. To me that made it a swiss chess omelette topped with mushrooms. They were high quality mushrooms but it wasn't what I expected so I didn't eat much of my meal. My daughter ordered the French toast as she did last time and hardly ate one of the three slices because she didn't like it at all. I go to brunch almost weekly and this was a very disappointing experience. I felt like I just threw $44 out the window and considering the horrible weather today that made it worse. I think the restaurant is a very nice establishment but seems their chef/cooking/kitchen staff is inconsistent. The server from previous visit recognized us from previous visit which was nice, and she and the server we had today were nice. I do think that the server should have noticed how much food was not eaten and the fact that we didn't take it to go that something was wrong enough to bring it to management attention.
We always have a good meal at 8th & Union, and for much less than we usually spend elsewhere. We need Gluten Free and they have lots of it. Very varied menu. Unusual things but also the usual burgers, etc. Cheap beer and drinks at happy hours. Homey atmosphere. Friendly. Local flavor.
Specials menu was presented. Four of us chose the special. Only to be told after the fact that the special was gone. Back to the menu. Fish stew lacked fish. Crab cakes were good. Salmon was very good.
One diner, upon realizing the beer he chose was not draft, asked to change his order. Server brought the bottle beer saying it was already opened and she couldn’t change. Really??
Wine was ordered and the wrong bottle was opened and poured for tasting. Rather than taking the wrong bottle away immediately, the server waited to see if we would accept the bottle. We did as it was apparent that she didn’t want to have to deal with the already-opened bottle.
Entrees were served over a several minute time span, rather than being brought out all at one time. Which led to diners having to start their meals while others waited.
This was my first visit and I will definitely be back. The brisket tacos were outstanding and our server Jordan was great!
Joanna was so helpful wit my dietary restrictions! I so appreciated everyone working with my gluten and dairy free diet! Thank you!
It was 1/2 price burger day, and eveyone had a burger. The Kennett Square Burger seems to be the most popular, with it's fried egg. Eveyone commented on their burger (old Cheddar, Standard with cheese, Kennett Square) and all were positive. The fries went over very well also!
Service was very good.
No local place does gluten free food better or has such a wide selection.
Each time we go it is better than the last! The food is unique and delicious and the bonus is that most of it is gluten-free!
We love 8th and Union. My wife loves that the menu has many options that are gluten free. I love that everything on the menu is great. Can’t wait till our next visit.
I was there with friends to celebrate my birthday and we had a great time! The food was delicious and we loved our server Christine :)
Always friendly and accommodating. Friendly and mostly very good wait staff. Sometimes they disappear for a while but that happens everywhere. Great for Gluten Free options.
Menu selections were creative. Food was very fresh and tasting, and portions were generous. Great place for an afterwork drink and meal.
Making a reservation online (via Facebook) was easy. We came for appetizers and drinks and stayed for their comedy show. We'll definitely be back. Great service and good food. The fact that they could make most of their dishes gluten free is one of the main reasons I'll be back.
Great service. Requested to sit in a booth and to have napkins folded like spaceships when made reservation. Staff went out of way to accomadate for both. Food was great, drinks were great. Overall great experience, would recommend.
We expected more since the menu seems varied and innovative. Sadly the execution of food preparation was average at best. The Pho was bland, even with peppers added to spice up the beef and brisket. The salad was average. More seriously though, despite asking for no apples, and having that confirmed when the salad was served, there were several apple slices in it. Luckily we're not allergic to apples because using an ingredient that we asked to be omitted could have serious consequences. This seems odd at a restaurant that puts such a big focus on vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.
Bland, flavorless chicken satay, served lukewarm.
Burnt, flavorless pork tacos.
Dry, flavorless beef tacos.
Cinnamon brulee rice pudding, flavorless.
It's like the chef and or kitchen staff don't know how to cook.
Taste your food.
Bland and boring.
Will not be back as it was way over priced too.
We went for breakfast. Between 4 kids and 2 adults....non of our meals were good. Pancakes tasted like cardboard...how do you mess up pancakes??? I was really excited for a fun fathers day brunch...but left very disappointed. However the live music and ambiance is great.
(Sunday Brunch) The service was outstanding. We asked to move tables after being seated and having drinks, and we were accommodated without any complaints. Our server was attentive without ever being overbearing. The restaurant wasn't crowded, and we NEVER felt like we were being rushed.
The food was fine. We had the breakfast croissant sandwich and the breakfast tacos. Main dishes were good, but the breakfast potatoes were lackluster and we did not eat them.
The blues musician playing for Sunday brunch was absolutely wonderful. Volume was loud enough to enjoy but not too loud to prevent conversation. Overall, the ambiance of the restaurant was VERY enjoyable for a Sunday afternoon.
The food is always so-so at 8th and Union. Everything sounds great, but when it comes to the table, it's just OK. I had fried rice, and the rice was a bit underdone and the dish lacked flavor. Other people at the table had crab cakes, which they said weren't great, and a burger, which was "fine." Great ambiance and great drinks. Just wish the food matched.
Waitress took very long to serve the table. Long periods of waiting. When time to pay, credit card sat for 15 mins waiting...but food was great and I’ll definitely be back!
We had ate at 8th & Union Kitchen for Mother’s Day was excellent then.
We wanted to return which obviously we did but unfortunately it was as Great as before. We were disappointed.
Hostess was rude- borderline HOSTILE : Didn't care that we had a reservation for party of 6, directed us to a cramped booth, and looked annoyed when I asked for a bigger table (the restaurant was 15% full at best!). We were eventually moved but not to the larger tables made for a party of 6 but rather to tables pushed together in the corner. There was no other party seated in the dining room ! Host THREW the menus on the table and left in a huff!! We all quietly hoped it was just a bizarre moment. Unfortunately, the experience did not get better.
Server: While she was pleasant, I think we saw her 3 times during our meal. She had not tried any of the drinks or food. She told us she couldn't recommend anything. We had one opportunity to order drinks. (and on a positive note, my cocktail was very good). Our appetizers appeared WITH our food about 45 minutes after we ordered!
Filet MigNOT: The filet mignon was a piece of sirloin cut in a standard filet mignon shape!!! I picked this restaurant because the menu appeared promising! THINGS ARE NOT AS THEY APPEAR! I still can't get over the chef tried to pull a fast one!
Since we barely saw any staff and were truly deflated, we just ate and got out of there as quickly as possible. We were celebrating a major event and needed to get out from under this black cloud of a dining experience.
I made the reservation 3 weeks ago on open table (I was visiting from out of town for the UD graduation weekend).
The smartest thing about this restaurant is they have their reviews on Open Table locked down. I had to contact Open Table directly to get access to post a review.
If the restaurant is still open on my next trip back to Delaware, I will be shocked...or it will be under new management with a new staff. Either way, I will never eat there again. I sincerely hope that others who are celebrating important milestones see this and turn away! What a bust!
This was a delicious meal. Prices were reasonable for what we got. Service was quality...we will return!
Food and service was fantastic once we got past the rude and surly hostess. Mother’s Day reservation for 4 and insisted we sit in the bar area right next to the front door.
There was an open booth in the dining room, so we insisted on that. It took a while and was uncomfortable having to take a stand, but we ultimately got to where we needed to be.
This looked great at first. Live music, but not too loud, just setting a mood. Nice atmosphere.
All four of us just felt that the food was just so-so. It was brunch which was what we came for. I had the country potatoes and eggs. It was all mushy. I left half of the potatoes. My wife ordered French toast and one slice was completely burnt (solid black) on one side. How does a restaurant serve such a thing? Would it have been so hard to cook another slice?
When we were done eating we just sat there with dirty plates in front of us. The server went back and forth to other nearby tables(and it wasn’t that busy) but ignored us. When we finally got his attention and told him we were finished, we thought that would be his cue to clear the table. Nope. He just said “Ok”, and walked away. He did return with the check, but after we paid and got up to leave, our table was still covered with the dishes. Strange.
This just isn’t a place we would return to. Sorry.
