I made a reservation through Open Table 45 days in advance since this restaurant usually fills quickly during tradeshows at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Open arrival, the restaurant was out of business. I never received any emails from Open Table with a cancellation. This was a big inconvenience.
Our waitress was polite and eager to serve us, but the food itself was not great for the price. We had the calamari and fried brussel sprouts and they tasted like old frying oil. The rest of the meal was just ok. I wouldn't go back to this restaurant for another meal. The rest of the staff didn't look like they were happy to be working either. Disappointed with the experience overall.
The 89 house salad was delicious though.
Great place with lots of light, seating and comfortable charm. Our server seemed busy and things were a tad slow to arrive, but she was most lovely and probably had more tables than most nights. We were finished in plenty of time before theater reservations. Our food was good, hot and all seemed fresh. Will go again and glad to discover this sort of hidden spot!
My mother was visiting for the weekend, and I decided I wanted a more upscale restaurant to celebrate Mother's day (early). Our server was friendly and very helpful with my two younger kids. The specials were terrific (Filet with Oscar sauce) and the sides were small but flavorful. I was surprised how few people were at the restaurant, with the quality of service and food. Wine list was moderate in size, but a few good selections. I plan to eat there again, and will have business meetings here also.
Food was fair- not hot when served but not time to re-order due to show at Nationwide. Table was awkward. The servers kept handing me my food over the table given the space between the tables was tight! Trying to squeeze in more tables lead to my dinning experience be less than enjoyable. I finally complained and the server walked all the other tables to serve us on that side. No big deal but not going back.
This is a nice restaurant. The service was prompt, the food was good, and the price was fair. I would certainly go back and I would recommend it to my friends. The only weak point was the crab stuffed mushroom appetizer. That was lacking on presentation and on taste. Otherwise all was great.
My family goes there every year when we are in town for a sporting event. This year the food just doesn't seem as high of quality as it has been in the past years. Menu has gotten smaller and the quality/taste of food has gone down. For the money spent we will be going some place else next year
The hanger steak was really good and my wife's blackened snapper was outstanding. We were disappointed with the hot crab dip though. Very minimal crab in the dip and there was no crust to the top of the dip. Overall a decent dining experience. For a Friday night at 8pm, the place was dead, which is surprising because it's a fantastic building and dining setting.
I love hockey and drive to Columbus regularly for Bluejackets games. I make it a point to eat at 89 Fish and have yet to be disappointed. I brought 3 friends from out of town for dinner and the game. We had a fabulous meal. Beginning with hot crab dip, calimari and tuna appetizer. Entrees were snapper, talipa and cod. Everyone was impressed with the food, beer and wine selections. Service was freinly
Food was excelent except for one of our desserts. The creme brulee tasted like a pure shot of whiskey and was not edible. Our service was not very good. Our server did not pay much attention to us and we eventually had to ask for bread when our entrees arrived (after the apps and salads). Overall..I would give it another try to see if was just a bad day or a common occurrence.
The food is good, not great, but good. There are other places in the city with similar quality food, bigger portions, but for less cost. My girlfriend ordered the scallops, with fingerling potatoes. The scallops were ok, but she received but one tiny marble sized fingerling potato. It's a nice ambiance, but nothing spectacular. The wait staff was nice, and accomodating.
For a restaurant wanting to be a step up from Claddagh, or Old bag of Nails, it's a step behind both of them in overall value.
My daughter and I stopped by for dinner and everything was amazing! We started out with a crab dip and calamari. Both easily shareable and tasted great. I enjoyed the salmon Oscar style that was recommended by our server, Nick. My daughter ordered a NY strip steak. Both were cooked to perfection and so flavorful! The staff was so friendly and helpful. The manager, Matt stopped by and refilled our waters and talked with us. And two other servers also helped deliver food and clear our plates! What great teamwork. So professional and friendly from the moment we walked in the door. Definitely coming back!
They market them selves as a high end restaurant in downtown columbus yet I would say mid grade for the quality of food. The prices are very high for the quality of the food. Lastly, do not get the whiskey creme brûlée because they can't properly brûlée the sugar and instead burnt it. Ruined the whole dish. Not going to be returning any time soon.
The ambiance and the service (as well as the food) were fantastic! It was our first time here and the wait staff along with all of the other staff made us feel right at home! Very classy place- Everyone upbeat and smiles all around. Knowledgeable folks about food and wine-- Highly recommended!
Went for valentine's day nice place had a couple drinks at the bar while waiting on our table, friendly staff quick service , parking is rough but they do offer valet parking. Moderate prices for such a nice place, food was great crab cakes are awesome as well as the ny strip.
This is a great place for dinner with friends or for a romantic dinner for two. The service is spot on, attentive but not obtrusive, informed without being supercilious. The setting is upbeat, modern but also warm and welcoming. They have a great selection of fabulous wines and amazing food. We keep this place for special occasions, not because it is expensive but there is just something really special about it that we don't want to spoil. Valet parking is provided free which is always a bonus downtown although there is plenty of parking nearby.
We visited this Valentine's weekend and I was very impressed that, unlike Mitchell's Ocean Club, were weren't all packed in like sardines, service was still excellent and so was the food which has been known to suffer at other restaurants during the busiest times.
We celebrated Valentine's Day on Friday night. We enjoyed the special which was lobster with butter and caper sauce. It was delicious! We also ordered a special Valentine desert which was a wonderful red velvet cake. It was a beautiful presentation and very good. The service and food was excellent!
The food was just ok! And the service subpar! We had a 7:45 reservation and arrived around 7pm. The very unfriendly hostess Michelle made it clear we would not be seated until 7:45. The restaurant was not too busy at all. I counted 8 tables and 2 booths open. After waiting (she kept her word) until 7:45 we were seated at a table that was open from the time we arrived until we were seated. 1st visit and our last visit!
