88 Wharf Ratings and Reviews
Wednesday night was very warm in Milton.
Back yard? Very nice but sadly, no water view.
Solution, 88 Warf, always a favorite for sitting outside watching an egret drift by on a warm breeze while enjoying some oysters and a whisky smash.
The staff is great, the atmosphere unhurried, the food and drinks are good and all close to home. My favorite local spot.
Service was a few minutes slow but the servers were busy with everyone out on the patio. (I understand, i work in a restaurant as well :-) ) Regardless of the few extra minutes we had to wait, my friend and I loved it! It was a really nice place, the outdoors was great and the view of the lake/ Marina was nice too! Food was delicious, needless to say, we will be back in the future!
We were hopeful a couple of years ago that this restaurant would make it but it didn't seem that it would. Food was mediocre service poor and not much good to say about it . We have been there a couple of times in the last month and the place has completely changed. Food was excellent and service as well. Spoke to Brian and he seems intent that the place will never go back to the way it was which is a good thing. Glad we gave it a shot and we will be back
After my rave review last week, I gathered together 5 friends to have dinner. Our reservation was at 6:30 and when the 2 specials were announced we were told right away that one of them was sold out. At 7:00 ? I split my meal with a friend and it arrived on one plate with a side of plates for us to divvy up the dinner….a split in the kitchen is much more elegant and appreciated. One of my friends ordered a beer with his meal and it arrived halfway through. Our waitress right at the start was clearly bored and unfriendly…never cracked a smile. Anyway…I'm not sure most of the party will be going back which is too bad because we had high hopes for a neighborhood spot.
This restaurant has had its ups and downs through the years and I've eaten there experiencing them all. Recently there has been a change in management and the word on the street was pretty positive. My friend and I gave it a try the other night, sat outside in the beautiful patio and had a most delicious dinner. We started with cocktails, had their chopped salad and split one of the specials of the night, a chicken fried steak with a few shrimp on top and it all sat on a piquante cream sauce. Absolutely delicious ! The view looking down the river was spectacular with the sun setting at low tide. A pair of geese waddled up an nibbled on the grass near our table. The wait staff was great too.
I'd go back for sure and hope that they continue to follow along this track.
We keep giving 88 Wharf another try because of its outstanding location and view. However the food is mediocre and this week it was abysmal. An entree salad was a few pieces of lettuce, a huge hunk of mozzarella, and 2 crostinis on a plate. I would do better eating at the grocery store salad bar. Enough, 88 Wharf!
We enjoyed a wonderful evening, eating great food in a very comfortable environment. Our party was quite large, but our table was perfect for relaxing conversations on a Friday night. The waitress was very knowledgeable; her recommendations were right on target for everyone. I will try to save room for dessert next time.
Went for Mothers Day brunch. The food was bland and even though the restaurant was only half full (on Mothers Day!) was served at room temperature. The waitres had no personality. On the plus side: our Bloody Mary's were great and the mussel appetizer really good. Would go back for drinks and apps on patio only. It's a shame because the space is great and it could be a great restaurant under better leadership.
88 Wharf is a great place for dinner. It is close to home and even though there are a number choices in the vicinity 88 tends to be my go to spot alone, with my wife or with friends.
The service is always friendly and never pretentious. All though the food has had its ups and downs, for the last year it has been very good. I am looking forward to lobster roles and good drinks at sunset, outside deck, on the water. It does not get much better.
i was surprised by how nice the restaurant's dinning room looked. The waitstaff was so welcoming. Our food was delicious. I had the steak frites was was cooked to perfection. My husband had the salmon, also cooked perfectly. He also had a mushroom side dish which was so good I ate most of them. I highly recommend this lovely local restaurant.
Early dinner-(6:30) Quiet at first but picked up very quickly. Great seat-window view of river. Staff very friendly and attentive. Thurs. night special (Italian night ) a really good deal--entree/salad/glass of wine under $20!!. Try the mussels- you can make a meal out of the app.
We had the prime rib special, and it was cooked perfectly. The dish lived up to its name as a special and was outstanding. We also had the calamari with a side of roasted mushrooms. The calamari was lightly crunchy and delicately breaded, and the mushrooms were the best we've had. They were garlicky and salted with a light, but just the right, touch. We also had the artichoke dip appetizer. The dip was great, while the "naan" that it came with was maybe a little bland.
The only disappointment was the chocolate mousse that was listed as a dessert choice on the web but had not been on the menu, we were told, for a couple of years. We're hoping they bring it back. :-)
We will return!
Me and boyfriend went here for Valentines day dinner, during a blizzard. They took us almost immeadiately and sat us at a table we requested, by the window to see the view. We have the Bay Scallop Chowder and calamari which was amazing! Since it was busy the service was a little slow but the waitress we had was great and really nice! I got the Filet which was cooked perfect, a little salty but i enjoyed. My boyfriend got the prime rib and loved it. I will be back here when the weather is nicer to try out the back deck!
I have been through the ups and downs of 88 Wharf, and returned hopeful after each new chef and staff turnover. I read some recent good reviews so went back again optimistic. And then had one of the worst meals I have ever had. Food terrible, service poor. Place was empty on a Saturday night, so apparently I am not the only one who has given up on the restaurant. Very disappointing. Seemed like 88 Wharf could have and should have worked, especially with the nice setting and view. But at this point I think it is hopeless. I won't be giving them another chance. I have already given them over a dozen. And they just haven't been able to deliver.
88 has had its ups and downs.
Currently it is on an upward trajectory.
Good food, drinks and service in a congenial atmosphere.
I am not complaining that they are rarely full when the local competition is packed but it does seem a little unfair when 88 has a better menu and, in my opinion, a better setting.
the advertising for this restaurant is very misleading. when you log on to the web site it gives you the impression that it is more of an upscale dining establishment and that is the furthest thing from the truth and the menu is a bit limited. went there for my 16th anniversary and my wife and I were only dressed a bit above casual and we felt very out of place when we looked around and noticed people dressed in sweat pants, jeans & flannels. this place has zero ambiance and could use some up dating. probably would be best used as a sports bar/restaurant. however the food was ok and the prices very reasonable.
Got five friends to join me for what seemed like a nice deal for a Tues night in November. Burger and choice of 1 beer or glass house wine. $9.99.
Well only Merlot or Chardonnay for choice, all six had the Burger and asked for cheddar cheese but only American cheese available for the Burgers. Think they have an opportunity to upsell but not even offered. Four of the guests didn't get the house wine but went with something else off the wine list.
Got us in this time but not again!
I've been here multiple times before and decided to reserve a table through opentable to reserve a spot. I'm sure I made the server, Joe, feel a little awkward because I was writing a report for my class based on my dining experience. In studying fine dining, the service was great and besides a party going on, it was excellent overall.
Food was very good, but the menu was limited. As for after dinner drinks, I had to order three different libations before I found one that was in stock. There was no Strega or Galliano to be had. Our waitress was apologetic, but it was not her fault. My wife lost her eyeglasses and the restaurant found them and was able to return them to us. I would dine here again.
Ate w/ husband for dinner. They were short-staffed - it took about 15 minutes to place our drink orders, and tables weren't getting bussed and reset promptly - not very appetizing. Once our waitress did come by she was very nice and helpful, comped our drinks because of the wait.
Food was pretty good, nothing revolutionary but tasty, prepared well, reasonably priced. It was weird that your entree was served on a giant plate with only the meat or fish on it, and then the sides were on separate plates. Made it awkward to eat without reaching. Restaurant decor is pretty and romantic, and there is a nice view of the river outside.
So, overall, nice place for a special occasion, but needs to work out staffing issues and rethink presentation.
