88 Wharf Ratings and Reviews
First time here. We came because we had a last minute gathering and nowhere else had a reservation for 7 on Friday night. We quickly learned why this place was empty.
We sat outside which was beautiful. Our service, not so much. We were brought water quickly but waited at least 10 min for our server to come by. Did I mention the place was nearly empty? We ordered drinks and waited for them for about 20 min. When they arrived our server had forgotten one! It took another 10 min to get that taken care of. We ordered food including an appetizer. Our main dishes arrived but..no appetizer. We cancelled the appetizer then and our server seemed surprised to learn we'd expected it first.
Our dinners were good but service problems limited the experience. One in our party got steak but our server didn't being a steak knife. We asked for one but by the time she brought it he'd almost finished his dinner--it took her about 20 min to bring it. We asked for fresh pepper and were told the restaurant didn't have any. What? We ordered another round of drinks and waited 30 min. We got them when she brought our check!
So, this place has potential but the service was AWFUL! I won't be returning which is too bad as the location is very pretty and the food was good.
Lovely evening dining outside. Our waitress was lovely, patient, and helpful. The food, however, really was mediocre at best. The eggplant dip was okay, but served with just a few slices of pita. Calamari was fine but a little salty. My Statler chicken was supposed to come with spring vegetables and oven roasted potatoes. Well, the tiniest chicken quarter I have ever seen was atop sautéed kale accompanied by the potatoes
We live walking distance to 88 Wharf and although we have had bad dining experiences in the past, we decided to give it another try based on others reports that they had updated the menu. We went at 7 pm on a Saturday night and the place was pretty empty, not a good sign. We ordered appetizers - pork ribs for my husband and eggplant dip for me. Pork ribs were cooked nicely but lacked any glaze or sauce other than some sesame seeds. Eggplant dip was tasty but when I asked waiter where the pomegranate seeds were as listed on menu he returned to say they were scarce these days so were not used. I don't think they should list an item if they know it is not available, or at least tell you beforehand. On my entree it was listed as quinoa salad and haricort verts but it was mostly cucumber with a few small pieces of green beans. Cucumber is one of the food I dislike and it was mixed in with the quinoa so made it unappetizing for me. It also felt less like an entree and more like a salad with salmon on top. My husband's steak frites was a steak atop a big bowl of limp unseasoned fries made soggier by the meat juice. The steak was cooked to his liking, but no veggie, just mounds of bad fries. I also ordered a cocktail which tasted good but was served in a plain glass with no garnish or color to it. A sprig of mint or wedge of lime would have made it feel like a cocktail and not just a glass of pale juice.
I was surprised that the waiter did not offer an apology for the missing pomegranate or addition of cucumber and lack of beans. A nice gesture would have been a free dessert for the inconvenience and inaccuracy in menu. For the price, we would not go back and it's a shame because they have a lovely outdoor space and it is right in our neighborhood.
We started going to 88 a few years ago, and then things seemed to side, and we stopped going. Just recently, we gave it another try, and we're very glad that we did. Service was always good, but the menu and food had definitely dipped, but it's way back up now. We had a great time, and the new chef is excellent.
So to sum up, even if you tried it even a few months ago and weren't thrilled, go back and give it another chance. You won't be disappointed.
We found this restaurant on OpenTable and had never heard of it before, but the reviews were pretty good and they had a 7PM which was perfect for our date night dinner before a movie. The food was delectable and I actually enjoyed the small menu because of the variety of food types represented. The ambiance was really comfortable and the wine was tasty too!
We have been customers for years..a place we would tend to forget about. Then Monday came its burger nite w/your favorite beverage, for $1295..best burger in town w/the freshest roll. The staff was very accommodating for our party of six. Can't wait to get back to redeem my rewards of $25.00 for being a VIP member
We had a wonderful waitress! The food and Wine we all had was delicious! It was a busy Saturday night but we couldn't believe how quick everything came and how attentive and sweet our waitress was! Even the gentleman that brought our food was so pleasant, a big smile and so polite! We had a great experience! Thank you to all the staff!
We are very pleased that 88 Wharf has turned the corner as it is in our neighborhood. Food is getting better. I would say that the only hesitation we had was that the salmon was farm raised and my experience borne out here is that it usually seems to be somewhat dry which it was. The rest of our meals were above par . We will be back
Overall 88 wharf was a good experience. The food was fantastic! One person in our party had the lobster roll. It overflowed with real lobster and tasted delicious! I had the 88 wharf burger which was phenomenal. The service was okay...the server seemed harried.
Our party of three had a lovely meal and the server was terrific! We split orders of the ribs and the shrimp for appetizers. I had the mushroom ravioli which had this light, creamy sauce and a side of Brussel sprouts - yummy!! My friends had the Bolognese with pumpkin gnocchi and the burger - they both cleaned their plates. The cocktails were good (with a kick! :) ) We were too full for dessert, but we enjoyed a glass of wine and relaxing conversation after dinner. Again, our server was awesome - friendly, knowledgeable, attentive. We'll be back!!
Three of us enjoyed the lobster rolls. Two had them cold and 1 hot. Everyone loved them. Portions were perfect. We each had a desert which were good but I miss the key lime pie that was absolutely delicious. Atmosphere is perfect for small groups or couples
We have eaten here several times and we have never had a bad experience. I have brought several different friends and all have loved it. The food is good and the staff is very accommodating and friendly. I love that we can sit out side too!! I just wish there were open for lunch!!
