84 Tavern on Canal Ratings and Reviews
Went for restaurant week and was seated promptly. We did have a reservation. Our waiter was terrible. He was sullen and acted impatient when I commented on how dark my stout was that I ordered with the meal. The stout tasted fine - however, my gnocchi was overly sweet from too much sherry splashed onto it and when I told the waiter I was not pleased with my meal, he made no attempt to allay the situation. My husband's main course was fine and our first course of salad for me (quinia and arugula - also I could not discern any quinia) and salmon cakes for my husband. Also, we were disappointed that the Tavern did not have expresso and the dessert we ordered was never delivered.
My wife and I met my brother here on Thursday night and had a relaxing time. On the following Sunday we took our family for brunch with my in-laws for a birthday celebration. Both meals were quality and value meals. My wife and I also like the large beer selection!
My wife and I almost did not walk in upon noting the dirty marquis at the entrance. We are glad we did however because the food, drink and service was a step above our original impression. Waitress was knowledgeable, and efficient. Martini was made just like my wife wanted it. Caprese salad was one of the best-great tomatoes and Vinegar. Main courses of fish and chips and clams over linguine were excellent. Glad we continued in .
We had eaten at this location before it moved and it was very good. We ate there on Saturday before we went to see a play and based on our prior experience, we made early reservations thinking that it would be about 1 1/2 -2 hours at the restaurant. We were out within an hour. My husband had the prime rib special which was very fatty. I ordered the cod cacciatore. It was a very small portion that was bulked up with about 2 cups of mashed potatoes. Westerly seems to have quite a few restaurants, so I don't think that I will rush back.
I recommend. Good portions. Reasonable prices. You will not leave here hungry. Service was outstanding. Servers and food runners are paying attention. Food was served HOT. Clean, spacious dining room on one side. Large bar on the other side. Large draft beer selection. Decent wine selection.
I do like this place. Have been here 4 times. The appetizers and sandwiches are really good. The Prime Rib looks really good but they ran out. I would stay away from Pasta here. Both experiences with them have been poor. This visit my burger was tasty but overcooked. We will come back and stick to simpler bar foods.
Service was some the worst I have ever experienced. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food to come out, and it was not very busy. Waitress disappeared to avoid me asking where our food was. Other waitresses kept saying it would be out in 5 minutes, but time kept passing. Food was just OK when it finally arrived; tater tots were under-cooked. Manager comped our meal, which was nice of her. Will not return- there are many better restaurants in Westerly.
On line reservations were simple and email response was virtually immediate. Reservation was honored on time and was seated promptly. Rose, our Server, was beyond exceptional and played close attention to every assigned table and each guest. Bread was plentiful, but served cold; previous three visits were similar. Calamari appetizer was a very small portion, with peppers making up half of the serving; c'mon guys, Calamari isn't expensive, give a good sized portion. Entree portions were actually sized accurately, if you were following adult portion guidelines. OK overall, but I'm not rushing back next week.
Wonderful surprise! Casual, pleasant room. Went with the my parents and my kids. Everyone pleased. Best burgers anywhere around! And the macaroni and cheese is out of this world. Grilled salmon on salad also very nicely done. Excellent roasted brussel sprouts as starter--had to get two for the table! And, of course, amazing beer list. Recommend you stop by if in the area!
We enjoyed our birthday celebration at "84". Our meals were very good and the wait staff was very accommodating when a 5th person joined us. The drinks were very good and our appetizer and then our entry was right on time. I can't think of a thing that I would change!
