About 83 1/2
83 ½ is best described as a labor of love. A love of a family, friends and most importantly, food. Chef Vincenzo Mangiafridda, a twenty-year restaurant veteran of the Upper East Side, wanted to open a restaurant that spoke to his deep Sicilian roots. In 83 1/2, his vision has become reality. He created a menu of memorable Italian dishes including silky pastas, inventive antipasti, and delicious entrees.
Above all, it’s Vincenzo’s love of people that makes 83 ½ what it is: a warm, welcoming place where friends and families share their passion for food and familiar faces. We can’t wait for your family to meet ours.

The food was very good and reasonably priced but the host was surly and the service was rushed. We were on time for our reservation and since a table wasn't yet available ... clearly not the end of the world ... we should habve been offered a drink, a house wine would have sufficed, as were other people right in front of us. The entire staff seemed annoyed that we had to wait by the front door for our table. And when we were finally seated ... no "thank you for waiting or "sorry for the delay." They should all learn some manners.
Absolutely amazing from beginning to end. As it was our first time eating here we tried multiple dishes and everything was absolutely delicious. Coming from an Italian family I rarely go out for Italian food however I wouldn't hesitate to bring people here time and time again for a truly fantastic meal and very attentive service.
There are an abundance of Italian restaurants on the upper east side of Manhattan and many are very acceptable. 83 1/2 takes dining to a little higher level. The menu offers some creative alternatives to the items typically found in this neighborhood. The execution and presentation of the food is excellent. The décor of the restaurant is simple, but care has been taken with table spacing, lighting and decorations that make one feel as f he is dining in an intimate dining room. The ceilings have attractive sound panels that keep the noise level in the room on the quiet side. The service is excellent -- not overbearing, but warm and attentive.
Our regular "go to" Italian dining experience. We're there 2-3 times a month. There's no place that has the kind of Italian food we love like this place. This time we started with the baked clams which were light, succulent, and delicious. Then we had fettuccine bolognese which was amazing. Then the table had the chicken with sausage, my personal favorite. The seafood pasta special was excellent too. There's a nice choice of wines by the glass, or a big choice by the bottle. We're going back on Wed.
83 1/2 is always a good go to place to meet a friend. Food is consistently fresh and they are always accommodating. The pasta with dug ragout is always a favorite, along with artichokes and the kale salad. Good service and very attentive. Overall a great dining experience.
Food was excellent. I had the seafood pasta and my wife had the truffle ravioli. Prices are fair and wine selection adequate. The only negative was a very loud and obnoxious tax attorney and her date sat next to us and it was difficult to concentrate on our conversation.
Never disappoints, but of course, it's your personal taste. Excellently prepared traditional Italian. It's not gourmet and it's not tiny portions. It's also not fusion. It's italilian with a focus on Sicily and the South. I love my chicken parm or veal parm. If it's not on the menu, ask for it. Also, wife love their great linguine vongole. You want a special pasta? If it's in the computer, they'll make it for you, like the more than excellent fettuccine with mushrooms, sundries tomatoes, and truffle oil. Like wine? They can help you decide from their mostly, but not exclusively, Italian selection. Personally, I love the Sicilian, Puglese, and other interesting wines they offer. Hint: if you like bringing your own bottle, bring it on Wednesdays. There's no corkage charge, but tip the staff as if it was in your very reasonable bill. Mangia and Cin Cin (to your health).
Terrific food and service. They didn't have the type of wine I wanted by the glass but they opened a bottle for us anyway and made it happen. We casually mentioned it was a birthday and they brought us a surprise birthday desert and sang! Warm and friendly. Definitely recommend
I've always been on a quest for an Italian restaurant that has what I crave; a big variety of choices, authentic cuisine, perfectly prepared food, ambiance, good wines, good service, and fair prices. I found it in May and have been back weekly. Is it perfect? No. But it's pretty close. This visit, we had the eggplant parm and the artichoke apps. Very good. For mains we had a special fettuccine with mushrooms and truffles, a seafood pasta, a linguine vongole, and a pasta with a short rib ragu. It was all delicious. For dessert we had cannoli (2 to an order), tiramisu, and Gelato. My favorite was the cannoli. We'll be back again this week.
I went there for the second time in a month and once again enjoyed a truly delicious dinner.
the first time I shared a cheese/salami board with some friends and it was perfect. then we had the pasta dishes ( the rigatoni and the linguini and clams) which were so tastefully authentic, with fresh homemade pastas and delicious sauces.
This time we had the special halibut and the fish was amazing. Shared a pasta dish as well and again it was one of the best I have ever had. It will be my new neighborhood favorite!
