Not a good place to go in the rain. With a reservation, waited in the bar and then ten more minutes at our table
Excellent dinner with phenomenal attention by Maria. 82 Queen has not disappointed over the past 30 years.
Delicious dinner. George was an excellent waiter!!
Great food excellent for Sunday Brunch
Had a great dinner here. It was located next to our hotel which was obviously convenient. the space is broken up into several sections which could be problematic for some but we didn't find it so. The food was excellent and the service professional and attentive. Was even lucky enough to get a taste of the legendary Pappy Van Winkle bourbon as the restaurant had just been able to secure a bottle.
Always love this place. Love the outdoor dining area and service and food excellent.
We were seated outside in one of the courtyards. It was a cold night, however the side panels and space heaters performed well, so we were very comfortable. The music was loud enough to interfere with table conversations, however the wait person was able to turn it down to a reasonable level...can't say that listening to James Brown sing "In A Cold Sweat" did anything to set the mood for a casual dinner. They also use metal chairs on a brink floor, so it was very noisy whenever patrons were seated, or left their table.
We had the crab cake entree. The crab cakes were very good, as was the succotash.
Ambivalent regarding a return.
Went for brunch and got the Crab Cake Benedict. Really good! And the service was great! Our waiter Corwin was the best! He gave us complimentary iced coffees and made us feel like we were regulars even though it was our first time and we were visiting from out of town. Will definitely go back to 82 Queen the next time we go to Charleston.
When in Charleston we try to eat at the best restaurants around and 82 Queen is at the top of the list. We enjoy the outdoor courtyard in the warm months and the smaller rooms on wet and cool nights. The food is outstanding each and every time we visit and this trip was no exception. I had a special snapper fish dinner and my wife had the wonderful crab cakes. The vegetables and sides were perfect compliment to a meal fit for royalty. Can't wait to visit next time.
I usually do not write reviews, but this experience deserves an outstanding review! The service, food and ambiance was OUTSTANDING!! Best place I have ate at in Charleston. Not enough good words could be said about this place!!
Our server made a lovely meal and cozy ambiance, an outstanding experience on 11/27/16.
This was our 7th or 8th visit to 82Queen and sadly, it will be our last. We were seated in an attractive and well-decorated room with one other party and my husband, son and I were bored - there was no liveliness or ambiance. No people-watching, no laughter, - nothing. At one point, the music system stopped and it was dead quiet in our dining room. Our waiter, who was excellent, quickly fixed the situation. My rib eye was huge and tasty, my asparagus consisted of three narrow shoots- narrower than my pinky- that were smothered by the steak and overcooked. I actually thought that they were scallions. Too many garlic mashed potatoes, tasty but too rich to pair with a steak. roasted herbed potatoes would have been a better choice. My husband's crab cakes were ok, just ok. The red rice as the side was not a good choice and the sauce for the crab cakes was flavorless. A simple pilaf or lightly seasoned steamed rice and fresh vegetables together with a more flavorful sauce would have been better. My son had the scallops, which were very tasty, but were served over sweet potato pilaf. Why?! A simple lemon flavored pilaf would have been better. Why why why add sweet potatoes to pilaf? I love them but not in pilaf. My 21 year old, not a picky eater by any means, ate the pilaf only because he was hungry. He does not like sweet potatoes. I think that 82 Queen needs to fill up the larger dining rooms and concentrate on simpler, better - prepared food, including plenty of fresh vegetables. I have a number of other suggestions as well but this review is long enough.
Food was super. Request area other than green house for dining. Floor is brick, chairs are heavy, the grating of chairs on floor ruined evening, every time someone got up or down it was like nails on a chalkboard. Extremely annoying. We were told other areas were better, too late to save my evening!
It was a great experience for my wife and I. 82 Queen has always been one of my favorite Restaurants anywhere, not just in Charleston. I even used to work there in the late eighties and early nineties as a waiters assistance.
One of the best meals we had our entire stay in Charleston. Short walk for us, across from The Mills House, but even a drive would have been worth it. We will be back!
Everything from the service to the food to the ambiance was so inviting and delicious! I highly recommend eating here when you are visiting Charleston.
Great food, ambiance and the staff was impeccable! Very romantic restaurant we had an amazing experience!
We had our Thanksgiving dinner at 82 Queen. We have dined at several Charleston restaurants and unfortunately our dinner did not quite match the quality of food and service we have experienced at these other restaurants. The service was not as attentive as I would expect at a fine dining restaurant. The food, as well, was not quite up to par. I liked the idea of a limited prix fixe menu for the holiday dinner, but the food was just ok, not of the quality that I had anticipated based on my experiences at other restaurants. I will give 82 Queen another try, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to someone. There are just so many other wonderful restaurants in Charleston.
Pretty nice, although I thought the food was a little salty.
I am a frequent patron of the many fabulous restaurants in Charleston. This was my third visit to 82 Queen. Twice for dinner. The first dinner was disappointing as I ordered lamb, my favorite entree, and it was primarily a piece of fat, very little meat. The ambiance in the atrium was lovely, and I decided to give the place a second chance for Thanksgiving. I was asked if it I was "okay with stairs" when we arrived. I answered yes. Myself and a friend, both seniors(68 & 71) were taken to a table upstairs where we were the only patrons on the entire floor for the entire duration of our stay. Not a holiday atmosphere for sure, with a very musty odor, adding salt to the proverbial wound of being so isolated. We overlooked the first floor where there were MANY empty tables. Then the worse, a very dark, unlighted stairway to have to navigate downwards after our meal. I had to ask a bus boy on the first floor to go and assist my friend (71) down the steps as she literally could not see, it was so dark. As a retired risk management professional, that "UN-lite" stairway is a dangerous hazard for all clientele, especially older ones.
I will say the meal was very good, however not excellent in accordance with the price.
This is the first and only bad review I have ever written. It is not my nature to do so. But when you are out on a holiday, and pay the steep prices holiday dinners demand, you expect the experience to be special. The ambiance is an important component of that experience. 82 Queen sorely missed on that score.
We went to Charleston for Thanksgiving and decided to try 82 Queen for our Thanksgiving dinner - delightful. Wonderful ambiance, good food and superior service. The BEST Negroni cocktail I've ever had!!
We ate Thanksgiving Dinner @ 82 Queen. This was the 2nd time we had celebrated Thanksgiving there. The other time was 2 yrs ago when we were unable to travel and be with family.
We love this restaurant and keep coming back. The fixed price menu was a little steep...$60/each for 3 courses. Way too much food! We were full after our appetizers!! Left with 2 bags of food...part of each entree and desserts were not touched at the restaurant.
I would much prefer to order only what I could eat!
The food was excellent but crab cakes reheated 3x/not as good as when originally served.
Speaking of service, Maria was probably the best waitress I have ever been served by. She deserves a raise or promotion. She would be awesome at training new wait staff!!! Managers are you listening???
Highly recommend 82 Queen for lunch, dinner or special occasion but would prefer not to have as much food as is forced upon you with a 3 course/fixed price meal! Many small bite/plates??
Great She-crab soup and shrimp and grits!
Amazing, the food was so good I was literally speechless.
The shrimp and grits is my 'death row' meal for sure! Outstanding taste and quality. Wonderful bar scene and excellent service. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants of all time!
This place was amazing! Food and service were A1, will definitely be going again.
Excellent in all respects--service--food--location. Try it!!
The restaurant reported having staffing issues, and as such we had had a 30 minute wait in the face reservations. The waiter was great. The food was great. Save for the unexpected wait, the evening's meal very nice.
All was great except for cold outdoor seating. We had a reservation and was not told we would be sitting outside.
My wife and I really enjoyed this restaurant 3 years ago - and therefore made it a highlight (Saturday night reservation) of our weekend vacation in Charlotte. Unfortunately, our return visit was disappointing. It started very well with good cocktails, wine, soup, and salad. Good service... Unfortunately, our entrees were poor - to the credit of the restaurant they did not charge us for our entrees. I can literally say the yellow snapper special was the worst fish that I've ever had - I had to use a steak knife to cut it. We had asked to substitute out starches (e.g., potatoes) with vegetables and was told that the chef was not accepting (and therefore gave us bland, diced, mixed vegetables). We couldn't stay any longer for dessert. We love to visit Charleston, especially for the art and the food - unfortunately, this visit left a bad taste.
We were in Charleston for a few days of relaxation. We returned to 82 Queen because of enjoyable experiences in the past and were not disappointed. The low country cooking is to die for. Our server Maria was everything one would look for in a great server.
You will not find a more romantic setting than this restaurant. Ambiance galore. However, the food was fine. I think I had higher hopes given the setting and the fact that I had expected the food to match the ambiance.
Shrimp and Grits was basic and blah. My son's ribeye was drowned in a brown gravy. Everything was good, tasted fine, but with so may other eating options in Charleston, I probably won't be back.
82 Queen is definitely worth a visit when you're in Charleston. We had reservations and didn't have to wait at all. I recommend reservations as this restaurant can get crowded. Our server Josh was knowledgeable and efficient while not being obtrusive. He originally forgot to put bread on the table but when we mentioned it he corrected the error immediately. We ordered gumbo, which was delicious and crab cake. Both of us thought the gumbo was the better meal of the two. This restaurant also has an ample wine list. We would definitely eat here again if we find ourselves in Charleston again.
A getaway as a couple sans children to enjoy Charleston's history, great restaurants and drinks. We had plans for dinner every night making sure to book ahead of time. Saturday evening we visited 82 queen, changing our mind from another restaurant and in calling were able to get a table. Hmmmm
So beautiful building in a city of beauty. And from there it goes bad. Our waiter seemed to be new which is fine, we are flexible. So mixed drink, nothing special and this is a city of special cocktails. While having drink a business pair is talking to waitress how one dish was inedible as the fish was too salty. In a few more minutes a woman who got she crab soup is also saying it is too salty.
Our appetizer order is incorrect which isn't a big deal, we let waiter know and its changed out without a problem. He leaves fried oysters on mac and cheese and says feel free to eat this anyways. So we start eating the oysters. SALTY. Our order of friend oysters on caesar salad comes out. We each eat one oyster, try to have some salad to kill the taste and stop eating. INEDIBLE. We pay for salad, cups of she crab soup that were not the best and drinks and cancel other plates. Make it down street to best restaurant we ate at Husk for a bourbon cocktail to kill the salt taste.
Lots of great restaurants in charleston, if 82 queens is always that bad they'll be out of business. If that was a one night mistake and someone triple salted everything than the manager or chef should have picked up on it when so many people were complaining, sending back dishes or not paying.
This restaurant was in walking distance from our hotel. The atmosphere was quiet and calm in a converted Charleston residence. The service was friendly however the presentation was slow. The main dish come after thirty minutes from the salad. The dish was luke warm and the quality was poor. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The service was wonderful and our guests said it was the best meal they had during their visit. So glad we made the trip into town for this delicious brunch!
Our server was exceptional
Had a problem with an allergy. Asked about ingredients. Told that it would be okay. It wasn't.
But the manager was more than apologetic. He wanted to make amends by bringing a replacement dish and a gift certificate that went way beyond what was expected.
We appreciated his effort to make things right.
This restaurant was the culinary highlight of our time in Charleston! Everything we tried was amazing and left us feeling perfectly blissful. Absolutely try the she - crab soup as well. Thank you for having us at your restaurant, it was perfect!
We went to the restaurant because we were looking for good Charleston food. The food was good. Shrimp and grits, jambalaya and she crab soup were stand outs. The service, though, was super slow. And she dumped half of my husbands drink down my leg!
