Great night! Wonderful service and amazing food.
Overall it was a great experience. Everything was top notch especially the decor and the service. Our server Bear was exceptional.
Clam chowder soup and lobster mashed potatoes were good. Ahi tuna was decent, but was served on top of hot pasta for some reason.
We had an fabulous experience at 801 Fish!!! The service was impeccable, food fresh, hot, and delicious, and made my brother’s birthday a memorable one. We will definitely be returning!
Great place and great service. Highly recommend for any special occasion.
From the minute we walked into the mostly empty restaurant ( it was 6:30). The hostess (with no mask) greeted us and then chose to take a call and have a 3 min conversation while we stood waiting at the door.
It was an anniversary dinner which they acknowledged with a heading on the menu ( yippie). We started off with 10 oysters that were good but the accompaniments of horseradish, a vinaigrette and cocktail sauce were set up top in the most minuscule ramicans. The cocktail sauce was literally tomato paste. Not enough for 10 oysters and awkward to spoon out. We ordered several items to split: the special beet and goat cheese salad with candied nuts which was the most embarrassing excuse for a salad I’ve seen ( being a chef, I’ve seen it all). Three slivers of beets which were sliced on a mandolin paper thin, two crumbles of goat cheese, barley detectable dressing-looked completely dry but I tasted a hint of something and no nuts. We asked them to split these plates and she seemed to understand what that meant but you’d think the chef would. Maybe because there were only 3 slices it would’ve been too embarrassing so we had to reach across the table eating off each others plates at 801 fish?! The clam gumbo was extremely thick, condensed. It came with a tiny clam in shell that was barely visible to the naked eye and couldn’t be pulled out unless you used your finger. Lastly was the Scallops with Chanterelle mushrooms and cauliflower purée. This they decided to split on two plates but it was so intense, salty and the cauliflower was burnt so bitter and neither of us could’ve eaten more than our portion.
When you hear an entree served with a veg and starch you assume the starch ( purée) is going to be an accompaniment, not a garnish smeared on the bottom of the plate. Drinks were not refilled until we placed at the end of the table. We will not be returning.
We all know that the service industry is going through a challenging time and while the wait staff obviously know what they are doing and have the foundation to provide an amazing experience, the reality is that they seem to be less than enthused to be there. The food was amazing!! The whiskey & wine list was great (although in my opinion, a bit overpriced), but once the 801 team remembers what they have to offer and the public returns to appreciating their efforts, 801 Fish will return to being a more complete dining experience and worthy of my hard earned money. But, when the waitstaff doesn’t echo the rest of the vibe, the final experience is less than what it should be. Hoping this is a short lived challenge for the industry and although we still tipped 20%, as a family that grew up in and was very successful in the business, 20% is by far the least we have tipped in many years. Attitude and effort can go a long way - and while no one was truly rude, they just didn’t seem to give a damn and that is sad, for them and their clients. Good luck.
Even when finding the valet may be a little tricky, the restaurant decoration is beautiful, the hostess is very nice and kind, and the waitresses are also very nice and friendly, now … the food is from another level, it’s delicious
Staff was attentive. Food was wonderful. Simply the best.
A little pricey but very good. Food and service make this a top contender in the upper echelon of excellent restaurants.
The waitress seemed like she didn’t want us be there
Literally dropped our drinks off and ran off
Didn’t even serve bread until we asked
Ordered dessert and we thought she left the Resturant for the night
For the cost of the food you would expect better training
Plus the server of out food was chewing gum to every table he delivered
Was very annoying
Food and service was outstanding.
Got the shrimp and grits and the tuna tartare to start and wow best things ever then my table ordered halibut, sea bass and lobster risotto everything was perfect and delicious
Me and my fiancé were very underdressed due to us changing where we were eating at the last minute , but no one said anything or even gave us a weird look. Service was attentive and relaxed at the same time. The food was excellent and I would highly recommend for everyone to make sure to get some Brussel sprouts for the table to share.
They made us feel special on our anniversary with special menus and dessert. Food was delicious and the bar is fun and loved the fun drinks. We sat outside and loved it.
Fantastic service and food. Best seafood in STL!!!
Absolutely wonderful experience with stellar food and wine.
It was great
Excellent fresh oysters. Shellfish Carpaccio tasted great, shellfish perfectly prepared. Service outstanding. Will certainly return.
Our server/waitress was spot on…impeccable!!!
Food was delicious!!!
I can’t wait to return!
Good location, nice interiors, very good food. Service was apathetic and slow unfortunately
Grilled oysters were delicious as always. The linguine with clams was rich and flavorful. We ate at the bar and didn’t receive what you’d call stellar service. We were the only ones there so there was no excuse to have to flag him down. This was the same experience I had two weeks ago so probably won’t be rushing back.
Fresh seafood is shipped in every 36hrs. Food was amazing and our waitress was even better. Will be back next time we visit St Louis
The crab cake and scallops were so delicious…Can’t wait to dine here again!
801 was amazing as usual! The food, ambiance, and service are always impeccable!!!
Wonderful service and remarkably delicious meal. I would highly recommend to those who love seafood.
801 Fish is the best seafood in STL. The service is awesome, the food is delicious and the wine list is spectacular! The atmosphere is wonderful, the decor is perfect
Way too loud for our group of 6, we were smack dab in the middle of the restaurant and had to practically scream at each other if we wanted to speak across the table. Likely a table of 2-4 would fair better. Food was very good, prices high for what you get but i get you are paying for the “experience”, beautiful restaurant, waiter was gruff but attentive and clearly very experienced - although probably should have warned my elderly mother about the spice on the seared tuna entree. Would only go back if we can get a separate enclosed room or the weather allows for sitting outside (too warm the night we were there).
I was celebrating my birthday. It was my husband’s and I first time there and we loved it. Everything about it was good. The atmosphere, our sever, the food. We had a blast!!!
Server, Sam was amazing! Seating was perfect, near the window. Great experience!
Absolutely delicious! Second time we have been and it is our favorite seafood place. Halibut was the best I’ve ever had and super friendly staff. Huge wine list as well.
We had an amazing experience all the way around. The food, atmosphere and service were all wonderful. The Sea Bass was perfect!!!! Can’t wait to come back
In town from Atlanta and found on internet. Great choice. Great food and service
I am new to town and My friend and I celebrated her birthday at 801 Fish. We had amazing service from Bear and the food was amazing! I will definitely be coming back to try some of the dishes we missed out on. Recommend for any occasion.
A exceptional restaurant, great presentation and creative entrees with the freshest of ingredients.
First time. Heard a lot about the place and was not disappointed. Could not believe how fresh the seafood was for a Midwestern located restaurant. The service was fantastic but we were one of the first diners there. Not inexpensive but definitely worth the money. Will definitely come back when we get into town.
Great food and ambiance. But our server Patrick is cold, curt, not engaging, doesn’t make eye contact. No hospitality or warmth. He has been the same on other visits but this time it was more egregious.
I had the scallops and they were good. The lobster fried rice as a side was delish.
Great meal and nice place. Pretty expensive but the quality of the food made it worth it. The only issue I had is the noise level. There should be a way to soften some of the hard surfaces to help.
