Dinner was fine . Micheal was great as a server. Unfortunately we were placed in the bar dining area and the noise, TVs and people movement thru the room was very disturbing and distracting from enjoying dinner. If we go back will be specific about where I’ll be seated.
801 never disappoints! The drinks were outstanding and the service was even better. All of our steaks were cooked perfectly! Each of the sides were just the right size for everyone to share. Just a great experience!
Annual big12 dinner. Food and service both amazing
Andrew was an exceptional waiter! He and all the staff at 801 made our event truly special.
The service was impeccable. The food and drink was very good, but I have had better at lower prices.
Excellent service, wonderful food, definitely a place for a repeat visit!
I was thoroughly satisfied and impressed with my experience at 801 Chophouse. The food and service was excellent. Our waiter took the time to explain the menu, and made appropriate recommendations. Other members of staff allowed us to enjoy our special occasion. I really appreciate the experience and will definitely recommend as well as return for service.
Thank you for making our anniversary a special one.
Great romantic dinner . Chef was informative.
First time at 801 with an imperfect experience. First time at the KC location though. Ordered a Fillet-medium with blue cheese crust and Ahi Tuna- med rare. Server was professional and respectful but he apparently got confused. We received sea bass, cooked perfectly and the fillet wasn’t quite rare. Went ahead and ate the Sea Bass which was fantastic,(I was so hungry) and we sent the fillet back for a re-fire. The fillet came back med-rare with a slightly charred outside and no blue cheese. My wife choked down what she could and we called it a night. Pretty sure they still charged us for the blue cheese. We don’t waste time arguing bills so we just tend to vote with our lack of a return visit if we deem it necessary. Also, since the food wasn’t what we expected I went ahead and asked the hostess to validate my $10 valet which oddly enough, she kindly refused. When couples are spending 300+ for a meal, just pay the valet if they ask, even if they aren’t complaining. There is probably a reason they would have the audacity to ask.
Our server was fabulous. The steaks were decent, but not worth the price. The sides were outstanding!
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were treated like royalty . I mentioned it was our anniversary on the reservation . They put us in a separate area with candle light and hearts sprinkled on the table. Cord was a superior waiter . He was knowledgeable, knew his menu and provided A1 service . I’d say it was one of the best dinner experiences we have had in our married life. They even issued us a new coupon and we are looking forward to going back soon . Ask for Cord , you will have a fabulous dining experience.
Had a great birthday there for my husband. Great food, great atmosphere.
We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and 801 made it perfect with the hearts on the table, happy anniversary written on the menu’s, and the glass of champagne. The food was excellent as well as the service.
It was our first time I treated my husband to it for our anniversary It was beyond fantastic he loved his steak which he said was perfectly cooked .I'm a vegetarian the veggies were great and so was the baked potato
Ignore the printed description of how to order steak cooked, not accurate. Prime rib served on a plate inundated with Au Jus, would be far better and less messy served separate.
Do not like sides served family style, for this pricing, individual choices are mandatory.
Excellent service and food
We went for our anniversary and the table was decorated for our visit with rose pedals and a special menu. They went above and beyond to celebrate our occasion. We felt so blessed by the gesture. Everything was amazing. Food, service, and ambiance. Everything was perfect.
Great service, great food! A+
We were there for our anniversary and have been before. The service was outstanding as well as the food. I have not had a bad experience there yet, 3rd time. We live in Mountain Home Arkansas and come up to KC for the Optometric convention. We, over the years, have split out meals out among most of the downtown steak houses and this is the best one for us yet. I have had inconsistent meat at others but not here. Our sides were outstanding and when the chef puts that much pride in the sides then one can bet the meat will be outstanding too.
Our first visit to 801 Chophouse was outstanding. Our table was set for us with a rose and glitter for our anniversary, plus our menu said Happy Anniversary as did our dessert plate. All the team and especially our server Camille were wonderful. But the real star was the food! Perfect!
We have been coming to 801 for years but have noticed that the service has been going down hill and after this visit that the food's quality is becoming just okay. It is sad to see a steakhouse that should be able to compete with Gold Ox or Gordon Ramsay Steak actually becoming a place that will soon be on the same level food wise as Longhorn with worse service. My wife and I went for Valentine's Day and both had the 12oz KC Strip, her's well and mine medium well, the center of her steak was more medium well while mine was next to raw although both steaks had a bit of a burnt taste. We had the broccoli, mac & cheese, and garlic mash potatoes. The broccoli did not look or taste like broccoli at all although my wife said it was still okay. The mac & cheese was okay but did not seem to have the favor that it once did. The garlic mash was the best part of the meal. Also I forgot to mention that the crust on the bread was so hard that I felt like I was going to break a tooth to eat it. The hostess was great but that is about as far as the service went. Our server was late getting to the table and then made use wait about another 5 minutes just to order drinks which he took his time getting back to the table. Then once again made us wait to order our food. I am not sure what the reason was for this. The server that delivered our steaks was great as he noticed that our drinks were low and refilled them for us. This is while our server was no where to be found. He was quick to drop the check off and then stayed close to pick up the credit card.
What was once one of our favorite steak houses is sadly at the bottom of our list now. For this service and food quality the price should be a lot lower. At the two locations mentioned above I can spend about $220 before tip and get the same items PLUS 3 cocktails apiece, desert, and salad whereas here I paid just shy of $200 without those items.
Edit: this was KC and not St. Louis!
For the most part my wife and I had a good evening. But I do have to say that I was disappointed in the steak preparation. When you spend $55 for a ribeye you expect it to be top notch. For the first part of my steak it was tender and a medium temperature. However, as I got down to the last quarter it became tough and chewy and was a rare doneness. I mentioned it to the waiter who spoke to the chef but nothing more was said nor was there an apology. I also later mentioned it to the manager who said he was sorry, but otherwise good night and thank you for the $200 payment on the bill (ok, maybe not those exact words, but that was the feeling I got). Disappointing for a Valentine’s night out. Service was also a little lackluster.
Love love the waitstaff, the food, and the quietness..it is speedy though
Excellent service. The food was outstanding.
Wonderful food and great service. Beautiful ambiance.
Great experience! Would recommend to others for special occasion. Our waiter knew everything about the menu and made our visit feel very special and flattering. I enjoyed their settle way of acknowledging my birthday with confetti on our table and complimentary glass of champagne. Everything we had was outrageously delicious; we split the ribeye with their beer battered onion rings, green beans, and mushrooms. Heaven!
We celebrated a milestone birthday at 801 Chophouse. It was so worth it. They had decorated the table and added birthday menus to the table. The food is amazing. It was a wonderful experience.
To be honest - the steaks were very bad. Normally never eat steaks since I live in KC and can make a better one at home, but our CEO was in town to meet with Cerner execs. so I picked 801 since he appreciates a good steak. Been to 801 many times in Overland Park and Downtown and enjoyed the steak.
On the drive home he said his was bad and then the others said same thing, nobody wanted to complain, which was a mistake.
The oysters our server recommened was fantastic as was the rest of the experience, just 3 of 5 bad steaks!
Not sure what happened and caught at bad time with inventory low, whatever.
Sadly, we were unimpressed especially for the price. We started out with the shrimp cocktail and lobster corn dogs. The shrimp cocktail only had 3 shrimp and they were just shy of rubbery. The lobster corn dogs were delicious. Moved on to salads. They were okay, nothing special. From there we waited with empty plates for a long time for our entrees. Three of us ordered ribeyes and the fourth person ordered the fish special. This is what we came for - amazing steaks. We left disappointed. We had higher quality steaks at many other places in town. As a lover of ribeyes I expect a meaty piece of meat with traces of fat that melts. Instead all three of us had hard pieces of fat in our steaks. The fish was the best entree. Also had a mixup with one of the sides ordered. The server did comp that side and the shrimp appetizer - which we appreciated. Just overall it wasn’t worth the $649 bill (to be fair we did have drinks and a bottle of wine).
One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. A little pricey for me but it was worth it. Dined there twice now and it’s been great both times. Definitely recommend.
We made reservations in advance due to the George Strait concert happening that night. Probably didn’t need to, there was plenty of open space. Food was amazing and the service was great. I had the Filet Mignon and my wife had the pork chops. Plenty of food and the pork chops honestly could’ve been split between the two of us. Sides are a large serving so if you get one you can most likely split it between two people. Be prepared to spend some money if you go though, it’s not cheap, but for a date night that rarely happens it was worth it.
Food was fantastic--service not so much. We were eating before a concert and we let the waiter know that, however our food was served one hour after we were seated. We ordered right away when we sat down but it took an hour to get the food--not acceptable.
Another FABULOUS 801 Chophouse experience. Brought friends with us and they had never eaten there before; they're coming back!!!!!!!
This was an utter and complete disappointment. All of the food was awful, from the leathery, overcooked steak to the macaroni and cheese which tasted more like pasta with a bland milk sauce poured on it. Everything was practically inedible, and for a place that’s trying to position itself as expensive and classy, the food is a joke. Expensive? Sure, but you’ll get a better product and far more polite and attentive service nearly anywhere else and for much, much less money. Speaking of service, our server was loud, interrupted constantly, talked over us, was abrupt and basically just dumped the food on our table and walked off.
Absolutely avoid, even if you’re looking to impress someone at a “fancy” restaurant. Better to find another one, because 801 Chophouse is a disappointment in every way, and there are dozens of better steakhouses with better steak, sides and service.
Good food. Fantastic service. Ended up seated next to the bar and watched drunk idiots that look like they frequent the place. Like, saw a young guy so drunk that he scared off a girl who didn’t even stay 10 min, and left her wine (which he drank). I wanted this to be a better experience than it was. Probably won’t return but glad I got to check it off the list
Chiefs win!! Thank you
Food was amazing. Service excellent. One of my top three restaurant meals in my life!
Went for Restaurant week, it was a fixed menu and the food was amazing. Went on a Saturday at 4:00 hoping to avoid a issue with it being downtown, at the Power and Light district? Little did we know that Monster Jam was in town and had a matinee that let's out about then? So parking and getting to the restaurant was a nightmare, that made us late by 30 min. and made us a little irritated. The hostess and staff put us at ease, when we did finally get there, and set us at our table immediately, from there our experience went into high gear! Food, and Service was amazing through each course we had. Would we go back, absolutely, (even though it's a 3 hour drive round trip). Next time we will look at what is happening at the Sprint Center, and Power and Light District first, and schedule accordingly!
Our server was excellent with great suggestions and always on top of everything. Food was really good
