After months of not going out due to COVID, my wife and I finally had a date night. 801 was our choice for a great meal in an upscale setting. We got a nice secluded booth, appropriately socially distanced from other dinners. The staff was friendly and helpful and made sure we were well taken care of. I had a great ribeye and my wife had the seafood pasta. Both were perfectly prepared and delicious. We capped the night off with the Grand Marnier souffle. Be sure to order it with your meal as it takes about 45 minutes to prepare. All in all, a great night out in these strange times.

This is our second time to dine at 801. And to be honest - it is over rated. The price you will pay will not equal the quality of the food your receive. We were told they had 3 specials - one for a 14 oz wagyu steak. We were not told the price was $150. Our steaks were good, but not great. We splurged and got the wagyu. It was nothing special and definitely not worth the price they charge. The side baked potato was actually tough.

Overall - it was what we ordered. The service was fast and professional. But the experience is not worth the value.

For $300 for 2 steaks - we will not be back. You can find better food for a lot less money.

Another excellent meal at 801 Chophouse. Server was more than attentive, and it was a truly memorable experience. One of our guests has a severe peanut allergy, and the server and kitchen were more than welcoming and accommodating to our needs. They even prepared a specially made peanut free birthday cake for her!! 801 Chophouse is a true asset to not only central Iowa, but to all of Iowa. Thank you for another memorable evening.

Celebrated 2 birthdays, everything was amazing.

The only problem we had could have been remedied immediately had we known. We were seated at a booth in the bar and were well into our dinner by the time the bar got busy and we were privy to all the waiters picking up their orders. The sound of a martini shaker usually elicits a favorable reaction but not when it is constant.

Next time we won't allow ourselves to be seated there.

The food was absolutely amazing! The only issue I had was that I was sat at a table near the end of the bar which didn’t offer any privacy. I’d made a reservation weeks in advance for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary and assumed that we would’ve been given a booth. Next time I’ll be more specific when I make the reservation. Again the food was absolutely AMAZING and my wife and I can’t wait to return!!!

Fine dining at it’s best—delicious food, attentive staff, wonderful ambiance. Excellent place to celebrate a special occasion—multiple staff members acknowledged our celebration.

My wife’s scallops were just warm & on verge of not being quite done but she was being nice. I have had better steaks at other restaurants in Des Moines. Drinks were very good.

It was a fun night with friends, we loved being in a side room but I thought having 2 other tables in our room was a bit much. Our waiter was great. The room wasn’t crowded it just was a bit loud! Everything else was great.

Got in prior to our reservation without a problem. Service was excellent. Steaks (New York strip, filet) were well cooked and very flavorful. I’m lucky to have been to some of the best steakhouses around the country and as far as steak flavor, it was in the top 3. The broccolini and hash browns were ok but not amazing. Decent wine selection although pricey for Des Moines
