   The New York Strip with Bearnaise sauce was exquisite. The Fried Calamari was divine. The French Green Beans were a little oniony but still great. The Aged Blue Cheese Potatoes were a little undercooked but the cheese had a bite so it made up for the undercooked potatoes. I would not recommend the Spiced Pumpkin Chai from the alcohol menu unless ultra-strong drinks are your thing. Overall and 8 out of 10.

   801 never fails to impress. Our service was impeccable and our waiter earned every penny of the tip. The food was spot on, the dry aged Delmonico was spot on medium rare and the lobster dinner was everything you could want. The brussel sprouts were sweet and tender, the asparagus was al dente with a quick grilling to pick up the flavor even more. For dessert the souffle was perfect and well worth the price.

   The dry aged NY strip was top 3 steaks I’ve ever had. I enjoyed every aspect of the meal from the old fashioned, wine recommendation, sides, and steak.

   Was in town for the NCAA Tournament, knew about 801 Chophouse from eating at the one in Kansas City. Excellent food and service. Very pricey, but it is an upscale establishment, and you know before you go the price you're paying for pre food and service. It lived up to my expectations, which were high.

   The $150 Seafood tower had portions that were frozen, the sides were cold, and I cannot even describe the horrible taste of the mashed potatoes. Steak was fine as expected, but the overall meal and experience was very disappointing.

    From Drew, our bartender, and Skip, our server, I and my clients really enjoyed our time together @801. It was our second time having dinner there during the NCAA tournament. Always fun to see fans representing their teams in such a cool environment. It was fun talking hoops history with Skip and he was very helpful with navigating the menu with us. Very thoughtful and accommodating when making recommendations to me and my clients. Would definitely come back for sure. Thanks so much for taking care of us. -Eric

    Service was outstanding-- celebrated a double birthday here and our waitress went above and beyond! The food was appropriately priced and the chefs did an outstanding job. Some of the steaks can be $150+ but they're usually 20-40oz. (enough for a whole table) Once again, service was fantastic and I will be dining here again!

    Food, Beverages, Desert, Serving Staff were amazing. This was our first visit and it was a special occasion - birthday and they put special touches on the table making the evening extra special. Requesting Skip as your waiter is a MUST. He walked us through all the variations of meat and how they are prepared. He knows his stuff and will not steer you wrong. We will be back and we WILL request Skip.

    We went here for my boyfriends birthday, the services exceeded our expectations. They decorated the table and had happy birthday printed on the menu. Our waitress was exceptionally knowledgeable and gave us some amazing recommendations. We will be back.

    We came here for our anniversary and we let them know beforehand, through the reservation. They downright spoiled us! They had special decor on our table, “happy anniversary” labeled menus, and a free dessert with “happy anniversary!” on the plate. There was a minor problem with the soup we ordered, as it was too cold and had something hard we couldn’t eat in it. The waitress said it was likely peppercorn or garlic, but they took it off of the bill, which was very nice of them! The waitress was very professional and accommodating, and almost all of the food was perfect! We ordered two steaks, one rare and the other medium rare, and both were perfect. I very much recommend!

    I was checking on open table for reservations for Valentine’s Day, on Valentine’s Day. I know totally last minute! Sadly, there weren’t any tables left at 801 so I gave up. I was relentless so I decided I o to check back 2 hours later and saw an open reservation for 7pm! I was shocked and excited for a last minute date night with the mister! However, an hour before our reservations we couldn’t lock in a sitter, so I called and asked if we could add our children into the reservations and they happily accommodated! It was our girls (twins) first experience at 801 & they were overjoyed at how fancy it was. Our server was attentive, extremely patient & helpful when we asked if we could split our ribeye (24 oz, it was massive!) I wish I got his name because he wrote down every flavor of ice cream they had for our girls to chose from. The chefs were amazing & everything flowed so perfectly. Our ribeye was cooked to perfection, medium rare & oozing of flavor. We also order a lobster tail the size of a baby shark. What a beautiful first experience at 801 for our girls. We will be back, it is worth every penny!

    The food was severely lacking in flavor. The steak was cooked perfectly but could have used more seasoning. Same goes with the calamari, meatballs & mashed potatoes. Very very bland & flavorless. Mashed potatoes indicated garlic, however there was no taste of it. Great wine selection by the glass and friendly service.

    Always a great experience here, great food and prompt and high quality service. We go here 6-10 times a year when we are in the DSM area and have never had a negative experience. Steaks cooked wonderfully, meal was paced perfectly, and the staff is attentive yet not intrusive.

    If you are looking for an amazing dining experience for a special occasion or a romantic evening or just because this is the place to go. I took my daughter and son in law for dinner (we travelled to Des Moines for the occasion) and every aspect of the meal, the service and the ambience were top notch. We had a 5 p.m. reservation on a Friday night but it was so nice and quiet and cozy. We were able to enjoy conversation at our table without any trouble. The attention to detail made each of us feel special and well taken care of. And, the FOOD was the best I have ever had. Large portions cooked perfectly. A variety of foods that I have heard of but have never tried before (a Lions Mane Mushroom preparation for a steak topper was unique and fun and flavorful!) Our server was awesome, coming around often enough to give us attention but not so often to interrupt our evening. Also, he was so knowledgeable about, not only the menu, but also the different flavor profiles that would be enjoyed with different aspects of the menu. The best waiter ever! I can't say enough. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely! You get top value for your money and, as I stated before, it is not just dinner but a truly unforgettable experience. You will not regret it.

    I have lived in the Des Moines area for 46 years and have always heard people more fortunate than me rave about the 801 Chop House. Last night was my first visit to this restaurant and I am left with a sense of disappointment. I ordered the 16 oz. Ribeye and on several occasions had to spit out pieces of steak that were too tough too chew through. That said, the service was wonderful and the drinks were very good. I just thought the food was going to much better than it was. I've seriously had much better steaks at establishments for fractions of the dollars.

    The food was amazing, we were slightly disappointed in our waiters attitude, he seemed to be ready to get out of work and head home. We were celebrating an anniversary and in the past usually had some recognition of special events but did not receive that on this visit. Especially when spending almost $1,000 on dinner.
