About 8000 Miles
Traveling 8000 miles together from the city of Chongqing in China, our two chef partners developed plans years ago to open a Chinese and Japnese restaurant together combining all their skills, in Chinese cuisine, and Japanese techniques. 8000 Miles menu will be comprised of Chinese and Japanese small plates like tuna avocado sumiso and hand grenades with traditional items as crab rangoon and sichuan spicy dumplings. Main dishes will be combined from the two other restaurants (TL's Four Seasons and PL8) like chong ching noodle soup, dried chili chicken, thai basil shrimp, black pepper garlic beef to list a few.
Sushi will be a highlight with maki rolls featuring triple k.c., sakura roll, snow crab roll, fireworks salmon and crunchy lobster, with additional sashimi and nigiri. A great bar with many specialty drinks to please.

Our waitress was nice but the staff seemed pretty uninformed. We called ahead to see if this place was BYOB and the hostess didn't know what that meant. After explaining, she asked someone and they said they do and we can bring our own wine. I then asked if there was a corkage fee and again she seemed confused, asked someone who told her o was $25. To be sure I asked if that was to open 1 bottle, she again confusingly asked someone who said yes. Most people wouldn't pay that in downtown Chicago let alone in Roselle not to mention the average cost of a wine bottle is far less than $25. When I asked to speak to the manager to double check, she was pretty rude and said yes it's $25 that's our policy. I was still talking when she hung up on me. When we got to the restaurant we asked again and somehow the fee changed to $20 and you could buy a whole bottle for $22 there. Why on earth would they have this be a byob place is something I don't comprehend. The restaurant was also pretty empty and they seated us right by the door. We asked to be moved further and later noticed they had an outdoor area. Most people ask if you want to be seated indoors or outdoors - not here. And the lady was pretty upset and rolled her eyes at us when we asked to sit outside. We also got bit by a ton of mosquitoes as well as other tables since they haven't invested in mosquito repellent. Our server was great though! None of us would recommend this place unless you had no other option.
Our first visit. Upon arriving the owner explained they were shorthanded and there would be a bit of a wait for service. She asked if that was ok. We decided to give it a try. While we waited a bit for a server, sushi was outstanding. We will definitely be back.
I'd only recommend to a friend because we've been to 8000 Miles previously. This visit was disappointing. For a Saturday night expected better service & a more knowledgeable server. Also, Saturday night is not the night to try out a new chef. Only half our meals were up to par.
Loved eating outside under a covered veranda, with live soft rock, played and sung by a great guitar player, at just the right volume where you could clearly hear his offerings while still being able to converse.
As far as the food goes, everything was familiar, while still providing some unique touches. We had the Crispy Canton Shrimp (Excellent), the Chciken Dumpling and Bok Choi Soup (a fresh take on Won Ton Soup and the dumplings were very good, but refreshingly different), the Kung Pao Chicken (Just enough spice to be delicious but not overwhelm with heat), and the Fried Rice with Chicken, Cashews and Pineapple (An excellent dish). I also had a Flight of Sakes, all chilled, going from dry to somewhat sweet to sweeter. It was really nice.
The service continues to be a challenge here. I have never had a bad food experience but each time I have visited on a Saturday night the service has had an excuse for why they are slow. This past Saturday was the worst with my dates dinner arriving before mine and the appetizer. Which was still 20 mins after we placed our ordered. Water glasses were empty and the waiter never came and took out sake order. Really hope they can improve on their service since I enjoy the food.
Ugh, I really want this place to succeed. There are some real gems on the menu and they have solid sushi for the area. However, the kitchen always sours my experience every time I come here. Food takes FOREVER! Please do something about this, it's been a problem from the beginning and I don't come here nearly as often as I'd like because of it. Your menu is too large and diverse and you don't have enough staff to accommodate both the take out and dine ins. I'm not sure how many more second chances I'm willing to give this place.
The service was horrible, we were 10 people and they could not handle our order. We had to ask for basic items like silverware and plates. Each entree dish was brought out without any silverware so we could transfer to our personal plates. The bartender was the server and the same person was the one that took our food order.
The ambience is wonderful and our meal started off great with some appetizers and drinks. Unfortunately, we ended up waiting an hour for our meal to arrive, which put a damper on the occasion of celebrating my brother's graduation. The server stopped by only once or twice during the ordeal, to inform us briefly that because their was also a party of 27 that the food was going to take longer than usual. The weird part is that we were in the restaurant before the party. Also weird that everyone else in the restaurant would have to wait an abnormal amount of time for food just because one large group was present. This ruined what we were hoping to be a fun and celebratory night. The server offered no compensation of food or drinks, or even an apology. We were also overcharged on two of the meals.
Valentine's day. Seated promptly but put at a table without silverware or menus. It took well over 15 minutes until our waitress came over to offer us a menu. We had to ask for water as therewasn't any on the table and no one had offered us any. At this point, it was apparent that the service was going to be incredibly slow so as soon as we could see our waitress, we told her we were ready to place our order. She asked if she should bring our children's food out as soon as it was ready. Thank goodness we said yes. Our children got their food but still no silverware, chopsticks or drinks. We had to ask a server from another table who brought us all some. Our children finished eating and we were still waiting for our entrees and sushi. We we finally saw our waitress again (who appeared to disappear often) we asked how much longer. She informed us that it should be right out. Another 15 minutes! Finally, got our entrees but not our sushi. She stated that the sushi would still be about another 15 minutes as the kitchen was running behind. How long does it take to make a sushi roll? Honestly, for a holiday, the place was only half full (now I understand why). We started noticing other patrons of the restaurant complaining as well about how long their oreders were taking too. The couple next to us got up and left. A nice gentleman (not sure who he was) came over to us to apologize for the wait. Then, another family got up and left. Over 30 minutes later and after we received our entrees, still no sushi!! I went to the hostess up front and said I needed to see our waitress for our bill as we were leaving! She came with the bill and said she would remove the sushi charges. Obviously! We never got it! I can't say much about my Kung Pao chicken or the fried rice as they both lacked flavor and the Kung Pao wasn't spicy at all. This was our first visit to this restaurant and it will be our last! So frustrating!
Dinner took well over 2 hours, kitchen had absolutely no idea what they were doing. Appetizers came out after our main dishes were served but the good news we had 30 minutes between plates. Food got me sick and hey who doesn't love that on Valentines Day.......
Food was very good, but we drove 20 miles for a nice Valentines dinner and service was less than stellar. The main reason we went here is because they are known for Sushi which my wife loves. The crab racoon was very tasty with lots of cheese and not greesy at all. Salad and soup were fine. I ordered Seven flavor chicken and a brocoli/ Asperagus with Garlic and oil. Both were great. They served my food and told my wife her Roselle Roll would be out shortly. Fortunately she shared my food because after 45 minutes and inquiring twice we cancelled the order, paid our bill and left. Our waiter Ariel apologized profusely and seemed genuinely sorry, but my wife never got the sushi and it was the only reason we were there. Next time we will stay in Naperville as there are several good sushi without the drive. After our experience we looked at reviews and apparently their service is there biggest problem. Food great, service and disaster. Sad to end our Valentines dinner on that.
Came here for my birthday dinner. Were able to sit down right away but it took a little over an hour to get our meal after we ordered. People that came in a half hour after us were getting their meal so we were ready to walk out but were getting updates from our server that it was almost done so we tried to be more patient. Apparently it wasn't "almost done" since it took an additional 25 minutes after she updated us. Food was good thankfully. Server said manager would talk to us but never did but we got a free dessert for all of our troubles. A free meal after that kind of wait would have possibly made me consider coming back but I don't think I will for dinner.
Love this place!!...the sushi, food and the drinks are great!!!...the atmosphere is energetic!!...and the staff are friendly and fun!!...its a bit of a drive and is hidden by the train tracks...but its so worth it!!...and is in a very cute neighborhood too!!....=D
Food (sushi) was very good. I would go back. But service needs to be improved. We had no plates on the table, we waited quite a while for our drinks we asked for eel sauce and spicy mayo and it took the waitress a good 3-4 minutes to bring the sauces, in the mean time we had eaten half of the sushi. As I said either service needs to be improved or hire more help.
The ambiance was very relaxed but fun and exciting! The menu was interesting and had something for everyone. I ordered a noodle dish and my friend went with a few sushi rolls. I had a Sapporo and her a Plum Margarita made with local winery, Lynfred Winery's, plum wine! Yum. The calamari was OUTSTANDING. It came with a sweet chili sauce. The noodle dish I ordered was also delicious and full flavored. You get a huge amount of food for the price and the service was great even with a big party there the same time as us. I definitely plan to go back here again soon!
Went for New Years Eve. The place is wonderful when you walk in. The hostess appeared to be new and after we seated ourselves we found out hat we had a waitress who was on her first night. The service was not good, drinks and food were brought to the wrong people. After our food was brought to the table we never saw our waitress again.
If it wasn't for the food being so good not sure we'd consider going back... ambiance was eh... we'll give it a second chance but the atmosphere was missing something... not sure what but I wish it was a little more inviting inside. Entire staff looked like a bunch of robots working...
