Delicious meal in the front dining room. Tend to prefer the back which feels more intimate and romantic. A few candles would soften the space. Refined wines, lovely pairing of vegetables, herbs and proteins. A great dinner destination and attentive service. The menu is ever changing and original.
Sooooooooo sloooooooooow! We also recently visited their sister restaurant in Boston (Moon Bar) and the service there was so weirdly paced and slow. Took forever to get food.
We have eaten here many times. Always a wonderful experience.
This is a favorite of ours. We dine here as often as possible. It has all the qualities of one of the best restaurants in the Metrowest area and rivals those in Boston.
Every dish our foursome ordered was superb - soup, appetizers, duck, fish and papardelle, all masterly prepared and concepted, and mouthwateringly fresh. Every ingredient just "sang" and worked together perfectly. The wine selections were excellent and very fairly priced. Overall, the pricing for our meals was less than what I would expect for this level of top-tier cuisine. Service was helpful, friendly, and attentive, but not excessively so - perfect, in other words. 80 I highly recommend 80 Thoreau.
Another wonderful meal. Delicious cocktails, grilled calamari w black beans and the special entree of bass. A nice glass of wine and dessert w chocolate, peanut brittle and bananas.
It was excellent as always. It never disappoints. Brought foodie friends who were visiting and they enjoyed it very much. Excellent service, guidance on wine. Overall an enjoyable meal.
Every dish was outstanding. Main courses exceptional and desserts perfect. We would make this a regular stop
I rarely give five stars in any survey however 80 Thoreau really does earn them. The service is absolutely top notch and the food is extremely good. When a truly fine dining experience is desired my sincere recommendation is 80 Thoreau.
The food was good, refined dining, the service was great but the kitchen was slow. Ambience was nice. The price was on par with nice restaurants in Boston, a little steep even if it is Concord.
Service was excellent, food was even better. Had a great experience and would definitely eat here again.
Fantastic food and service, one of my favorite spots if I'm looking to splurge on a special occasion. Very attentive, knowledgeable staff make for an even more enjoyable experience.
delicious, lively yet cozy, great service
Love everything about this place! The staff seems fully dedicated to making each guest feel special and welcome, and the meals are fabulous. It’s hard to fault anything, but all four of us wished there had been a tad less salt used in the food.
This is a wonderful restaurant. Well worth the travel if you live outside Concord. Every time we have been there then food has been superb.
Our personal favorite is the burger. Ask for the bar menu as well as the regular dinner menu.
Don't miss this gem in the suburbs. Great food prepared with care. Free parking, too!
We had dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. The restaurant was quiet (middle of the week) with a nice decor and white table cloths. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. We loved the menu selections with creative ways of preparing food. The food was excellent. The one problem was the amount of salt in each dish. We thought it over-powered the food rather than enhance the flavor. We hope the chef will consider reducing the salt in the food preparation and let the customer add salt if desired.
We met a couple we hadn't seen in about 18 years and spent well over two hours having a lovely relaxing time, drinking delicious drinks and enjoying fabulous fresh food. The service was attentive but not overly so, and our evening was a memorable one in large part because of the
wonderful chicken dinner and ambiance (even though we were right next to the kitchen).
Great as usual...One of our favorites. Great food and beverage. Lovely staff
It’s always a pleasure to have dinner at 80 Thoreau. The service is thoughtful but not aggressive, the ambiance is luxurious but not intimidating, and the food is always delicious. We really love eating there.
This is my go-to local restaurant for special occasions. The food is always special, both in presention and taste. The pate and fish entrees were beyond any homecooking. Wine selections were perfect, though we selected reds with fish, they were great pairings. Sides werewere perfectly executed and tasty. Service could not be surpassed.
I requested window seating which we got. However it was right next to the open kitchen. I like that back room but would have preferred the front quiet room to this location. Did not ask to move, but am sure that would have been accommodated. Good to know for the future.
The one disappointment was the coffee pot de creme dessert- pretty but lacking expression or taste.
It is an elegant place with great service. The dishes were made quite elegant, but they are too salty for us. Also since we were sitting next to the cooking area, we didn't like the cooking smoke.
Consistently high quality and attentive service. Creative cocktails, especially the Gold Rush bourbon, and excellent wine pairings. We enjoyed Arctic char and rye pork tagliatelle. And the bourbon ice cream with bits of pecan pie crust was heavenly. Sometimes the noise level can get too high, but always the food and service make it a great place to dine.
Terrific all around! Great food, very helpful waiter who guided us through the menu.
My husband and I loved it here! Would highly suggest it!
The food was very good indeed. We both enjoyed all of the courses. Service was very good and attentive. We've been to 80 Thoreau quite a few times. It seemed somehow less inviting and comfortable than we've previously experienced. Perhaps the lighting was too high? Perhaps a couple next to us with a baby (seems kind of out of place at this kind of restaurant). We enjoyed our meal but will be looking for a better ambience in future.
We had a great meal at 80 Thoreau! The food was amazing, service was attentive and the ambiance was good. We had a view of the train and the kitchen in the end room we were in. I had the seared gnocci with lobster appetizer and the Arctic Char entree. I ate every bite as it was so delicious! The devil's food cake was delicious too!
It was my husband's birthday and unfortunately our babysitter was not able to assist us last minute. I called the restaurant since we both have not been there and asked if they would be able to accommodate my 10-month old son. I also stated that I didn't want to be a burden and asked if it was alright to bring him. The host insisted that I could bring him that it would be fine for me to bring him and that they had a corner seat the owner often sits at with their own young child. It was very comforting to hear this and I appreciated that they were so kind and helpful in a situation that I hadn't planned for.
The menu options were not extensive but they were all interesting which we both appreciated more. My husband and I enjoyed our meal and the staff was very attentive.
We normally LOVE 80 Thoreau. So much so that we got many GCs for Christmas from friends and family. However, this time, neither my husband or I liked our meal, which is unusual. Both of our main courses were over cooked. However, the service made up for it, and we'll be back to try again.
Very nice restaurant in Concord. Menu is not extensive, but had a bit of everything so you'll be sure to find a couple of items that suit your preference. Our dishes were well prepared & paired with interesting sides that worked well. Portions were just right. Our only negative comment is that all the dishes were just a little heavy-handed with salt. Otherwise, dishes were delicious.
Wine list is good & staff attentive. Will come back to again.
the link to the review page keeps closing -- and that's a real pain
The service was great, Attentive but not intrusive - we all enjoyed
our meal, food was better than expected no complaints, better than that
A bit pricey but the food and options were more than fine
Very nice Valentine’s Day dinner!
We have eaten here before and came with high expectations, and so were slightly disappointed. Strengths first, the food was delicious. ON the other side, although it was not a particularly cold night, the room was uncomfortably cold. We asked if we could be moved to a booth area, but were told no, that there no booths for 4 , and the restaurant was quite full. They would see about turning the heat up a bit. I suspect the system was not functioning properly since there was only cold water in the restroom for hand washing. We were thoroughly chilled by the time we finished eating ( for the record, my husband was wearing long johns and a fleece over his shirt and tie) and were quite eager to get to our heated car!The server was pleasant, but not quite well informed about what he was serving; he didn't know what a sun choke was ( why I asked) and said it was a type of artichoke, etc. Some things he did ask about in the kitchen and returned with the info. We were disappointed in the wine by the glass selection. For a restaurant with this depth and an extensive offering of bottles, there were 5 reds and unfortunately none suited my husband's taste ( maybe his taste runs to more plebeian, and less sophisticated to appreciate the offering? unsure, but we tasted a couple and neither he nor I liked them). I had a white Grenache (?) and eventually I decided it tasted like a sauvignon blanc that had been chilled by a melting ice cube.
So since you asked, open table, I answer honestly that we were disappointed in our overall experience. You might read this and think my husband is too fussy, etc., but since it was his birthday, I was disappointed that it was not an overall great meal out.
The food was good, the service was a bit on the slow/felt ignored side. The greetings were staid, not a happy welcome kind of reception. That is one of my pet peeves. Restaurants should be excited to greet guests, right?
Nonetheless, I had a really great time and good conversation with my friend and our bellies left happy. I did like the way they allowed us to take our time. We were at that table for several hours.
This is one of our favorite places. Always consistently good food and service.
I went for my birthday. I wanted a place that I could dress up for and 80 Thoreau did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the dessert was beautiful.
The food was good, but I found the fish to be a bit too oily for my taste. Overall the wait staff was attentive, but our dessert was scooped off the table before we were finished, which made it feel like they were in a hurry to get us out the door. Also, the server did not clean off the table after the first course. A small thing, but still a touch I would have expected at this sort of restaurant. They shouldn't be serving the second course no top of the leavings of the first course. They did clean up after the second course before serving desert.
Excellent food and menu with seasonal and creative dishes. Each course was flavorful and delicious without being too small or overly large. This is undoubtedly a special place that is well worth the price premium and the outstanding service and food only reinforce my opinion.
Excellent as always! This is one of our favorite restaurants.
We've eaten at 80 Thoreau several times, it's been consistently good. I had the duck and the lobster gnocchi, both were very good although I wish there had been more lobster in the gnocchi, it was just trace amounts.
