We were excited to try out the new menu with the recently returning chef. We had an 8 pm reservation and the restaurant ambiance was good, with lots of patrons but moderate noise. We’ve come here for many years with mixed results. The service was good but quite slow. It appeared the restaurant might have been understaffed that evening. My appetizer- a strawberry and peas salad was very fresh and nicely presented but lacked contrasting tastes: elements felt way too acid. My dish of halibut for a hefty price of $41 was also very fresh but could have used more contrasting tastes, such as potatoes perhaps to balance out this very macrobiotic diet like dish. The other guest at my table had a pasta dish in a very small bowl that was quite liquid and also lacked contrasting elements. Desserts were probably the best part, which shows promise for this venue. I had a coconut rice pudding with tiny crispy sesame/honey craquelins (would have loved more as the contrast was delicious) and rhubarb pieces (which could have been a tad more sweet or syrupy). The other party at my table had the cheesecake and found it delicious, although would have preferred the cherries to have a little more flavor, perhaps with an alcohol syrup of some kind. To give context, we are French, and appreciate sweets that are not smothered in sugar, but even this felt like it could have done with a tad more oomph. Hoping this feedback helps!

I had the lobster pasta. I think the lobster was from frozen or from a can. It was over cooked and too chewy. The sauce was a bit bitter and oily and strong, depriving the tasting of the lobster. The room is beautiful. The service was fine. The food was disappointing.

My wife and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary with our son and his fiancée. As we’ve come to expect from 80 Thoreau, it was a wonderful evening. Food, service and ambiance were all amazing.

We go here for special occasions. The food is always interesting, and sometimes truly remarkable. We got bluefish. My partner LOVED it, I found it a little intense flavor-wise, but unique and the flavors blended really well. Wait person was efficient, but somewhat dour until we made an effort to engage them a little. Wine by the bottle is very expensive. We got a glass each, which was fine, and the quality was excellent. Will go back, as this is a unique and exciting place.

Creative, delicious and beautifully presented meal in a simple, attractive setting. Our server was able to helpfully explain the dishes.. A great choice for a special dinner. I ordered scallops as a starter and lobster pasta. My husband started with a salad and then had duck. We shared a desert annd each had a glass of wine. We left happy. Bill: $177.

The staff was great and friendly. The food was excellent and seasoned to perfection. Flavors of each dish were well balanced and enhanced with fresh herbs. Love the new menu. Scallops were 10/10. Great way to spend an anniversary.

Busy Tuesday night, food was quite good, service was average. Noise level high so hard to hear your guest. I would say that the staff was attentive but other than our waitress, others were not friendly (except for hostess) and seemed uninterested in engaging with patrons…no eye contact, no smile or response to a thank you.
