We have been here many times and the food was excellent but the service seemed a bit off this time. Had to ask for a glass of wine with dinner
Food was incredible! Our server was very knowledgeable and I appreciated his recommendations - they were all PERFECT. As good as always.
Actually, this restaurant is wonderful for any occasion. It is a favorite of ours. Always delicious food, perfect wine choices, comfortable service and ambiance. All in all a terrific restaurant.
Always excellent food and service!
I’ve been to 80 Thoreau only a few times, but each time has been excellent. The food is very good, but what makes it stand out is the service and attention to detail. When you walk in everyone is kind and welcoming. We were a group of four and we were all served at exactly the same time — that applied to food and drink. No awkward waiting until everyone’s meal is served. Then between dinner and dessert our server cleaned crumbs from our table. Definitely the place to go for something special.
We loved sitting in a window seat the one time we were seated there. Any chance we could try that again sometime soon?
memorable scallops cooked to perfection! and very good Negrone
please add more items to the reasonably priced bar menu so we can come more often.
Everything was great, the food delicious and our server was pretty attentive. Atmosphere was nice. The only thing I didn't like was how we were kind of shoved into the corner right next to the kitchen. There were other open tables that remained open as we ate in better locations, and I just wondered what made the hostess put us where she did.
This was our first time trying 80 Thoreau, and we had a lovely meal, and a great table by the window. It was a perfect, relaxing date night! The food was fresh, delicious, and well-prepared. We'll be back!
Limited menu but it was incredible. Highly recommend this place.
Fantastic place and great meal! Best restaurant of the weekend!
Love that I can experience finer dining without the stuffiness or drive into Boston. Thank you
It’s our neighborhood gem and never disappoints. The ambience is lovely whether you sit in the front, the back, or overlooking Thoreau street from one of the cozy booths (our spot). The ever-changing menu always has something we like and so does the wine list. The only thing that surprises us is that the owners don't care to chat up their regulars.
The food was outstanding but the service was poor. This is the second time we have experienced this.
the food was great and i really like the location. the only negative comment would be that the server was not very engaging. there was no presentation of the dishes or wine. a minor complaint really.
Good for special occasions. More formal atmosphere.
My friend and I were going to see a show at the Umbrella Stage Company.
Hard to find the entrance. Had to call. Intimate place.
Excellent service. Best swordfish I’ve ever had. They accommodate for gluten free. Delicious cocktails.
Portions were good. Fresh creative food. Only downside was the noise level.
This place never disappoints and last Thursday night was no exception. The grilled pork chop with fennel and an apple based sauce was fabulous!
Delicious food and great service
Great local restaurant! Food is very good although the menu is limited. It has a great jibe. I would go back again!
We had the corn and tomato fixed price menu which was outstanding.
Love this place!
Excellent as always!
I've been to 80 Thoreau at least a half-dozen times, maybe more, and it is the most consistently excellent restaurant I've found in the Boston area. The food is inspired and perfectly prepared (I ordered from the "tomato and corn menu" (prix fixe) and had the best sirloin I've had in a very long time -- the salt and pepper 'crust' on the outside was combined with a cooked-to-perfection medium rare inside). The pastry chef at 80 Thoreau is also a genius. S/he needs a James Beard nomination.
We went for the corn and tomato menu, an annual event that always includes an outstanding selection of choices. The service was attentive but not intrusive and the food was superb.
Lovely tasting menu, absolutely worth it. Try it with the seasons!
Great food good service but the acoustics in the small dining room made it so noisy that it was difficult to converse.
Birthday dinner for my wife. This is the first time we were seated near the bar, rather loud. Next time, will ask for the back room. Other than that, the dinner was wonderful as usual.
We are so excited we found this restaurant, the food was extraordinary, very fresh, tasty, different, excellently prepared and presented. Staff were great, setting lovely.
We had a lovely evening. The food is so delicious. Lots of little tastes mixed into the dishes. My chocolate dessert couldn’t be topped!! We continue to love the simplicity and delicious food at 80 Thoreau.
Great seasonal menu. Everything very well prepared, combined with a nice reasonably priced wine list. My favorite place in the area
Every year, we dine at 80 Thoreau for their annual corn + tomato special dinner, and we are never disappointed. They always impress us with a different 4-course meal. This year, we were most impressed with the corn panna cotta. But every course was delightful. Furthermore, we were lucky enough to be seated by the window, and we really enjoyed that. Our wait staff was terrific. We'll be back soon.
We enjoyed the fixed price four course menu featuring tomatoes and corn. All four of us enjoyed it very much. This is one of my favorite things about 80 Thoreau: the chef can take common ingredients like tomatoes and corn and create four delicious, interesting courses. I've never had a bad meal here.
Incredible place. Excellent decor. I would like more vegetarian options, however.
We all thought the food was excellent. My scallops were the best I have ever had. I also ordered the special dessert, a plum and raspberry tart the pastry chef was perfecting. It was sublime. I rarely eat dessert, but I polished it off!
Food was good but the wait for the main course was very long. Nice ambience for a slow sit down dinner.
Delicious, creative food, very nice and friendly service. Lovely place.
Wonderful food but the kitchen and waitstaff was stretched too thinly on a Saturday night. consequently we waited an average of 30 minutes between each course which meant an uncomfortably long meal of over two hours.
