"740 Front" in Historic Downtown Louisville, designated historical, is one of Colorado's two oldest remaining saloons; transformed back to its 1904 roots; a traditional American dining saloon with a turn of the century ambiance featuring a magnificent room dominating bar, built in 1880's by the Brunswick Company,. The copper spit trough, once equipped with running water, still exists along the floor of the front bar and functioned as a stable, easy to hit, spittoon.
Historically, Louisville was the only "wet town" in Boulder County until 1969, Notorious for its drinking, gambling, and illegal activities, evidence of the occasional misunderstanding is the .22 caliber bullet hole that is still in the front bar.
Offering Lunch and Dinner daily with brunch on the weekends. From casual to fine dining.
“Steaks not well done but done well, Something for everyone”
What a treat. The food was fantastic, attentive staff, and great back story. Not to mention the 1880's era bar! Will be back.
The food and service were excellent, but the temperature inside was too cold, we had a constant draft through the entire evening.
We were celebrating our youngest daughter’s graduation from her Master’s program at CU. From the celebratory greeting she received when we entered and all the way through our seating in a quiet section of the beautiful restaurant to the excellent service and food, we felt this was the perfect choice for the special event. This has to be a locals favorite. We’ll definitely dine again when we’re in the area.
A gem. Great food staff menu. History. Loved the flat iron steak. Bartenders are amazing.
This is an exceptional restaurant, the food is delicious and the price matches the quality. Make this your special occasion place and be ready to drop some coin.
As always we had a great meal at 740 Front. The staff are all incredibly nice & accommodating, the food is delicious, and it’s always generally a good experience. We will be back!
I love the building! The food choices are very diverse. Lots of steak, but also fish and a great crab cake. Hard to park on Friday night, but go around the building and try to pack on the back.
Had heard great things about the food but in my opinion it was nothing outstanding and only fair. Definitely not worth the cost or drive out to Louisville from Denver.
It's a decent place, this was our 3rd or 4th time there in the past year. I will say this - the 'steak for two' was underwhelming - the portion size was just like a steak for one, and it wasn't great quality steak either - fairly fatty. Would not get that again. Our waiter was really good, Tom I think was his name. We wanted a dry white wine and he brought out two samples for us to try.
It must have been an off day for 740 Front. We've enjoyed the variety of their menu, excellent food, good drink selection in the past. Service has always been a bit slow but they've always been so busy. We went on a week night and enjoyed fresh oysters and drinks. They weren't that busy but the service was very slow. Server was nice. Entrees were below standard with sea bass too salty to eat and veal overcooked but tasty. We'll try them again but not rushing to go there.
Everything was spot on! Lovely place for special lunch or dinner.
The waiter spilled olive oil all over my silk blouse. The chicken was dry. The vegetables were over cooked. The steak looked like jerky. There was no music. Staff was unfriendly. A total bummer of a night.
We’ve been to 740 front a few times now. The food is great and so is the service.
I try to have a business dinner here at least twice a month. Steaks are great and beer selection is pretty good.
The service was so slow. Server never introduced himself to us, came to our table about 10 minutes after we sat down. Not sure I will be back.
It's a nice restaurant and service was good. However, the food was medium at best for the amount we paid for dinner (over $275.00 for a family of four). I would rather go to Gallagher's Steakhouse or Morton's Steakhouse and spend that kind of money, knowing the food is superb.
We had lunch for my friend’s birthday. They served her a complimentary dessert, which was appreciated. Great burger!
All good! Food, service and ambience great.
Hostess didn’t make a very good first impression; in fact we almost left. Also had very low expectations for the food when 3 half slices of stale bread was served when we asked for some bread. Both our meals were a little better than these first two impressions and our waiter was nice. We enjoyed the restaurant’s history, but were disappointed overall.
I don't know if it was just an off night or what, but the only thing I really enjoyed about my meal was my drink, which was still very expensive. My steak was tough and the sides and desserts were nothing special at all. Fairly disappointing.
They were very accommodating for our large party of a bachelor and bachelorette party. The only thing that irritated me was the clear difference on how the table of ladies got treated vs how our table of guys got treated by our server. We collectively had almost a $900.00 bill, I would have liked service to match.
Had the prime sirloin, absolutely delicious. And the Colorado Cherry Co cherry pie at the end was the perfect close to a delicious meal. Love the history of the building, staff was friendly, and it was worth the drive in snowy weather. I’ll definitely be back.
We went for restaurant week and had a great time. The atmosphere was nice and the noise level was manageable. The food was good both enjoyed the appetizers but their salads were a little lacking (but you don't usually go for the side salad). The main entrees were excellent! Our service was alright we were waiting around a lot but all- in -all had a great time.
740 Front has become "our spot." It's the first on recommendations on "what's good around here?" It has quickly become our favorite date night venue.
Really nice experience, food was nice, drinks were great.
Waited over 40 minutes for our food and when I got mine it was cold.
We went for 5280 Restaurant Week. It is noisy by the bar, but we had a table in the back. It was nice and quiet. The food was very good! My friends and I talked about going back and ordering off the regular menu. The service was great and our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive.
The food was delicious. But the slow, un-attentive service we received was awful. When we asked to see our waitress after waiting for a long time to get refills on our drinks, she approached our table with a bad attitude like we interrupted her. And when the salads took forever to come out her excuse was the kitchen was slammed, but other tables seated after us were receiving their food before us.
Not a place I’d like to visit again.
nice place-great bar staff-they were the best part of the evening. went for restaurant week-Service was good, but definitely meals were conveyer belt style. We were a party of 6 and had 6 different entree's with 4 steak that all had a different cooking style (from Well done to medium rare). They all came out exactly the same-probably medium rare. unfortunate. Appetizers were good, as were drinks.
Great food, service was awesome and the drinks were tasty
My first time here. Was overall a great dining experience. Food and service was very good.
Only issue was we were seated in the back room and was very quiet but then a large birthday party of mixed adults and children was seated in a round table in the center of the room and it became quite noisy.
Great location and great ambiance.
The staff was friendly and professional. The restaurant was comfortable and inviting. They had a great wine and beer selection. But for the price per plate the food was very underwhelming. Portions were small and the food was a bit bland. Overly expensive for no reason.
Salad was wilted, had to ask for bread. Alcoholic drinks and menu were overpriced. Service was good. We were comped one drink and the salad due to the attentive Restaurant manager.
Lovely historic ambiance - one of the original saloons with the original intricately carved bar. Initial service was slow but once our waiter came he was attentive. Food was beautifully prepared but the quality of my steak was disappointing for $46. My friend had scampi over fettuccine and it was delicious.i would go back.owner was very friendly and gave us lots of info about the building.
We had a very pleasant experience, it’s not “fine dining” but a comfortable neighborhood pub like experience.
I really like this place. The space is really nice and open, but still cozy. They have a good happy hour too. Our food came out pretty slow this visit, but they apologized and were really cool about it.
Food was amazing, very pricey, but it is to be expected when you fine dine!! :D
Loved the atmosphere.
Our server was only mediocre. We had to remind him that we asked for a glass of ice to add to our pre-dinner cocktail, which was a stingy pour for the price. He had forgotten. Our friends had been to this restaurant many times over the years and were shocked at the increase in price since they last visited. The physical building is delightful, but the high prices would discourage us from going again.
Thank you for your review, Joe. I apologize that your waiter failed to meet our high expectations of service. I will review our standards with our staff for improvement. As for prices, with 2 min wage increases of $1/hr each over the past 2 yrs, our costs of goods & costs of doing business have increased. Some of this must be passed on to the consumer, unfortunately. I hope you will find our prices are very competitive with our fellow businesses in the area. We thank you for your patronage.
They did a great job for a business dinner.
