"740 Front" in Historic Downtown Louisville, designated historical, is one of Colorado's two oldest remaining saloons; transformed back to its 1904 roots; a traditional American dining saloon with a turn of the century ambiance featuring a magnificent room dominating bar, built in 1880's by the Brunswick Company,. The copper spit trough, once equipped with running water, still exists along the floor of the front bar and functioned as a stable, easy to hit, spittoon.
Historically, Louisville was the only "wet town" in Boulder County until 1969, Notorious for its drinking, gambling, and illegal activities, evidence of the occasional misunderstanding is the .22 caliber bullet hole that is still in the front bar.

Our entrees took over an hour. Tables were seated, ate, and left while we waited between salads and entrees. No adjustment or compensation was offered. The drinks were good, and the location is interesting. Not likely to return based on this experience.

That evening we experienced abnormal printer difficulties and various tables orders were missed by the kitchen. The floor manager was overwhelmed trying to rectify the situation & perhaps was unable to take suitable action on your table. I wanted to like 740 Front, but it's just not a good value. The food is OK, but priced like it should be out of this world. The service fits the same description. I like the venue, but they need to scale their prices back by at least 30% and upgrade the wait staff on level. I hope they make it - this is an incredible building and a great location with parking and a nice surrounding area. It's just not a $150 per dinner type place.

As for our prices, we do feel they are comparable to other restaurants that offer similar quality ingredients. We offer only Certified Angus Beef in both Choice & Prime categories & the freshest, not frozen, seafood available. Occasionally, our vendors do raise their prices & in order to stay in business, this has to be passed on to the consumer. We do appreciate your patronage.
We will not be returning after this catastrophe of a reservation. Sat a dirty table firstly, then not given any menus. Ordered medium rare filet and it came out well done. Took over 20 minutes to get the check and then additional time to complete the transaction. We will not be returning.

We recently had a lovely evening on the patio at 740 Front. It was just perfect. Our server was there whenever we needed him, the food was delicious and we savored every moment of the summer evening sunset.
Excellent venue and service was responsive. We started with the deviled eggs which were wonderful. I had the large crab cake salad and my husband had the chopped steak. Both were well prepared and we enjoyed them. The peach pie with ice cream was a perfect ending.
Food was good but not up to usual standard. Waiter was just ok, below normal service.
The Sunfire cocktail was absolutely amazing, but both of our entrees were over cooked. My date ordered rare lamb chops and there was barely a touch of pink and it was over seasoned. I ordered a bread pudding for dessert that might have been the worst dessert I have ever had. There was so much egg between the bread slices that it was essentially scrambled eggs with pieces of crouton stuffed inbetween. I do want to say that our waiter was wonderful.
I’ve always enjoyed this restaurant. Food has been consistently good but have been put off by the slow service in the past. This summer they’ve definitely resolved this issue!
Food was good, but way more expensive than it should be. Pricing a steak at Elway’s prices should warrant Elway’s quality, but it wasn’t there. Had a caprese salad that was fairly pricey for 4 small bites. If I’m going to pay premium pricing I’d better get a premium experience.
I made the reservation early in the morning and specifically said it was for a date. Usually when you make reservations there are defined tables, especially at the price point of this restaurant. However, the first place we were put was in a back room with a table of 10 that was a reunion of frat boys. Mind you we were there for a long over due date night. Not college night. Asking to be reassigned to a different area, preferably one where we could hear each other, we were moved next to a church group. To be honest, I did not see the point of making reservations if the host will not accommodate.
After sitting down, our waiter did not tell us about the restaurant history or ask if it was our first time. I began to order a martini and was cut off when he immediately asked for my ID. I am 30. I understand the importance, but he didn't ask my significant other for his, when he ordered an old fashioned and he is 29. I then had to stop the waiter and tell him exactly how I wanted when he said "I assume you want gin". This was a great start.
We ordered mussels as an appetizer and asked for some bread. The bread came out and was only 2 slices with a giant gob of butter. Then we ordered our main meals but unlike most steak houses, Mac and cheese or brussel sprouts were not a side. So we ordered a baked potato and crab cake. My SO ordered the flatiron Wague beef and I ordered the dry aged bone in NY strip. Here is the most disappointing thing about this evening, the steaks are made with an attempt at Millionaire butter sauce. I wish we had known that. It is a sad day when I do not finish a steak. I didn’t finish this one. You taste more Worcestershire than butter and it had ruined all of the steaks flavoring. The steaks were also over flavored with a garlic lemon seasoning that I was scraping off. When we first walked in I was wondering why most of the patrons weren’t eating steaks, and it made sense now.
I LOVE 740 Front Street!!! It's my go-to place in Louisville -- whether I'm dining solo or have guests visiting. Beautiful owners, servers, food -- always a wonderful experience.
Old favorite spot with a lovely makeover. Beautiful architecture with rustic elements. Menu is a bit old school/avant guard mix. Great personnel all around. We will be going back!

740 front is a solid, but not exceptional American Dining experience. Service at the table is good, at busy times food delivery is evenly paced; drinks always seem slightly over priced and appetizers slightly undersized to me. For example, we had the Caprese to share to start. Not only was it not big enough to share, it really couldn't have been any smaller, literally.
Add two cocktails at big city prices of $12 each, entrees and a kids meal and it's hard to eat for less than $100.
Still, it's a good place to go, seating at the bar is always busy, and while they don't excel, they never disappoint.

This is a great place to eat & meet with friends or for a date night. Not too loud, cool history to the location, & great food. It's not cheap, but not super pricey. We highly recommend it.

Great food! Great service! I have been here several times and each experience was better than the last! Parking is a problem. But once you get inside I have a great time.
Had reservations for 7:30 only to find out that kitchen closes at 8pm. Could not enjoy an aperitif before our meal. My salmon on the salad I ordered, was a frozen patty. Flavorless. Very disappointed. I had heard great reviews about this place but it hardly met my expectations.
While we do stop seating for service after 8 pm on Sundays, we fully expect guests to spend 2+ hrs to fully enjoy their visit. Reviewing our cameras, it appears you were able to have an aperitif at our bar before being seated to your preferred table, so I'm confused by comments to the contrary. This was our worst experience at 740 Front. The services is usually pretty good, not great, but good.
This time the service was awful. Our waitress was kept blaming others for her failings.
We ordered a nicer bottle of wine, a Rutherford Cab, but it wasn't in stock. In any functional restaurant they would have informed us that the wine was out and suggested an alternative. Instead we just ate our meal with no wine and empty water glasses. My wife decided to go in and tell them not to bother with the wine , since we were done with our meal. When she asked the waitress, she said that she was still waiting. She was corrected by a bus boy who told her that they were out.
We were also changed almost $7 for a small glass of soda water and one refill. We had asked for a refill 4 or 5 times before it appeared.
The food was great as always. But it wasn't worth $50 a person a for crappy service. Of course since we never received our wine or a second round of drinks, it was by far the least expensive visit to 740 Front.
We will return again, and will be more vocal if the service is so bad. It's difficult for restaurants to get good staff these days. With meals costing 2 or 3 times as much as other restaurants, it should be easy to poach waitstaff. The fact that they can't shows that there must be some real issues with management.
If our next visit is as poor as our last, it will be our last.

We enjoyed our Father’s Day meal. The service by Genevieve was terrific.
I want to add that I ordered a steak based on website photos and customer comments that it was the best steak they ever had. I’ve had good steak. This wasn’t. It was barely charred—almost wet. The deviled eggs were over-salty.
Based on the reputation and reviews, I expected better. Maybe the best kitchen staff were not working that night.
Everything was excellent. Our waitress, Gabrielle (?) was very attentive and the servers were never far with extra water or whatever we needed. It was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. We were visiting from out of state and will recommend 740 Front to our family members that reside in Denver.

This restaurant consistently provides good food at a reasonable price with excellent service. The only drawback could be that the restaurant itself is very loud. You need to be prepared for this. There are some tables in the back that may be less loud.
Shrimp and scallops were way over cooked! Tough and dry and of course no flavor when you leave them too long on the grill. Encouraged my wife to send them back but our dinner was ruined
