Ran in to grab something to eat on st paddy’s day. Packed bar area but restaurant was half full. Perfect to rest feet and grab for so. Our group of five devoured the food and not much was left. Loved how everything went smoothly - food delivered in timely manner and wait staff kind.
Lobster roll was 90% Mayo mustard mix, Very odd. Pizza tasted frozen and fajita was a strange oily frozen chicken mix with lettuce wraps. It's the only hotel option that you can make reservations at. If you're at the Hilton on business, I'd suggest going out for lunch.
30 minutes to get a margharita flatbread is a little much. No one in the Hilton there seems to care about customer service.
We came for the Mother's Day brunch and it was very nice and peaceful. The food is good and there was a lot of it for a very reasonable price considering what everyone charges now for Mother's Day brunches. Definitely worth it.
Just food. the brunch items were all just fair, nothing special. If you are here and you need to eat, fine, otherwise don't bother, at least for the brunch.
Webt for Mother's Day brunch. Selection waa OK, but not the best. Will not ve returning. The Hilton should bring back the Mother's Day brunch in the Grand Ballroom.
Waiter couldn't be more helpful in ensuring we got our food and check with plenty of time to catch our performance at the Auditorium theater.
Food was just really good.
Met a client for a business lunch. Service was friendly but very slow. Food was average. Would likely try somewhere else next time I am in this area of the city.
A friend of mine went here for lunch during restaurant week and tried their 3-course prixe fixe menu. I had not realized this was located inside the Hilton Chicago although I should have known given the address.
For the first course I had their egg & sprouts salad with a bacon vinaigrette. It tasted like they did not complete the vinaigrette because there was no flavor in the dressing that is common with vinaigrette. The second course I had the short rib pasta - the meat was nicely cooked and tender, the pasta was al dente, but it was not seasoned so came out bland. The only flavor in it was the cheese they sprinkled on top. The final course was dessert and I selected the coconut panna cotta. That is probably the best dish they had in the three courses - the basil sorbet was very refreshing and went well with the carmelized pineapple.
Finally the wait staff, although friendly was very slow to check up on us. It took a considerable amount of time to receive each course. As a result although we were having lunch it took over an hour and a half just to finish it.
Wonderful food! Great staff and atmosphere. I will definitely be coming back.
Everything was wonderful. Our waiter was great. The food was awesome.
My Mother, Grandfather, and myself immensely enjoyed the food and the customer service.
Hostess told us to wait to be seated but then acted like she had never seen us 15 minutes later when we asked about our table. We purchased a buffet. Our servers were somehow still terribly slow even though they were only responsible for drinks. We were seated for 15 minutes before greeted. The hostess did not even point out the buffet location when seating us. We were given a drink menu but not asked for our drink order for another 20 minutes. Then the drink order was incorrect. The meats on the buffet tasted awful and the selection of food was poor.
I don't know about everyday service, but the thanksgiving buffet was fabulous: great food, complimentary sparkling wine, okay ambience and great service. Even though it was a buffet, our server was very attentive and went to another restaurant in the hotel to get a diet Dr. Pepper. The appetizers and salads were outstanding. The carving board offered ham and turkey and the cranberry sauce beat my mom's, a world class cook.
Overall, good. This is a convenient place to eat especially when in a conference. It's just across from the hotel check-in area. The place was quiet and the food, good, as well as the service.
Horrible service, slow and disjointed. The food was just average.
I have only been to 720 South Bar And Grill twice and the 1st time was just for a quick after work drink. This was the first time I had eaten a meal. Frankly the food is average to slightly above average. I did enjoy the bread and my panini was sufficient but unimpressive, the highlight was the Garlic Fries.
Food was very good once we got it and they were able to meet the special diet requests of two of the individuals in our party. But the service was terrible. Had to actually go find waiter to take our order. Restaurant was not busy at all. Do not recommend due to extremely poor service and time it took to get good during non peak timeframe even though the food was excellent.
Went to Mother's Day Bruch here and it was great. The food was great and a ton of it. Our waiter was awesome and very attentive. They cooked my meat to my degree specification and brought it to me even though it was a buffet. They even stayed open a little bit late after their scheduled time. I would definitely go back for brunch.
Went to 720 South Bar and Grill on a Saturday. While outside was very busy due to St. Patties Day Celebration, the actual restaurant was not very busy. We arrived approximately 15-20 minutes early and were seated immediately. However after being seated, we were not greeted, no waters, no 'your waitress will be with you.' Nothing....after 10 minutes of waiting we decided to leave and find another location. Very unfortunate, the menu looked great.
We loved this place. The food was great!!! Would definitely recommend the sweet potato pie soup but all the food we had was great!! The service was a little slow, but did not impact our decision.
Food was excellent. Everything was fresh and homemade.
The service was nice, but inattentive. We even had an uncomfortably long wait at the host stand waiting for someone to acknowledge that we were there. Our waiter was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu, but similarly went missing for long periods of time.
The restaurant is fairly open to a bustling lobby, and is therefore a little on the noisy side.
Overall, a dependable meal. The short rib pasta was especially good.
Went here on New Years the food really wasn't not worth the money. The cooks don't know how to cook a steak correctly. I ordered mine medium rare wasn't close more closer to medium well. My wife ordered hers medium and it was well done no pink. The service was good I liked our waitress she was good. The place is in the hotel where we stayed I wouldnt go back if I stayed there again. It is over priced for what you get rather of went to a different restaurants that I know make a good steak even. They are a little more money.
I really enjoyed the service from Lisa and Mario. Splendid. Also, the pumpkin soup and smoked chicken salad sandwich were right up my alley. Excellent lunch experience.
Chose 720 South based on proximity to The Auditorium Theater. We had a good food and great service, but I was really surprised by the final bill. Maybe it's because it's a hotel restaurant, but I would say there are better choices for the money in the vicinity.
So as stated its in a hotel. So no grand entrance or nice architecture of a building. I know some really enjoy the look of a Resteraunt as well as its food. Service was prompt and very helpful. Showed up 20 minutes before my reservation and got seated right away. You will want to sit inside the resteraunt as its quite noisy. They special allowed us to have dinner menu as we showed up at lunch time. Filet mignon was cooked perfectly. Great food.
720 is in the downtown Hilton just across from the front desk which makes it very loud and semi conjested at the entrance.
The food is just fair in quality but on the expensive side. Service is good.
This is not a place to go unless you just want to stay in the hotel.
This was a pleasant surprise and right in the neighborhood. A girlfriend and I was looking for a nice place to have dinner but didn't want to travel far, this place is it. We had a great dinner and a nice bottle of wine too. The prices wasn't bad either. So, if you live in or close to South Loop and want a good dinner stop in the Hilton and give 720 South a try.
This place has a great menu and great service. Very accommodating to dietary restrictions. Sources local farms. We will be back :)
We dined here for Thanksgiving 2015. The food was bland and the main staples were immediately diminished and slow to be replenished.
By the time we ended our more-than-a-week, 720 could've been "Cheers." The staff knew our names, where we liked to sit, even the food and drinks we usually ordered. The menu is so diverse, that we ate their multiple times and only ate the same things twice because we liked it the first time. We love The Blackstone Hotel and it's right across the street, so 720 (located in the Hilton Hotel) was super convenient -- short walk in inclement weather; no cab!
720 is all-around wonderful. Service, food, location (a good South of the River restaurant). But we arrived just 10 minutes early for lunch and even though there were a lot of empty tables and every single booth was free, the hostess refused to seat us. There was no reason other than they hadn't changed to lunch menu yet. We didn't care and said we'd be happy to wait 10 minutes in a booth instead of in the congested (VERY congested) lobby. Nope. Honestly, even though I was looking forward to another great lunch, if it hadn't been for the thousand Open Table points, we would have left.
There aren't a lot of Open Table restaurants this far south of the river. Located in the Hilton Hotel, across from the Blackstone where we always stay, 720 South is wonderful, not just convenient. If it weren't for Open Table we never would have found it.
With wicked weather and an adversity to cab rides, we ate nearly every meal for three days at 720 -- and didn't get tired of it!
We really liked the waiter we usually had, Curtis. We'll be back!
I attempted to check in early for an important 7:00 breakfast meeting for 8 people. The restaurant was literally empty at the time and the Hostess refused to accommodate my request to sit at my table so I could prepare for my meeting. She was hostile and full of attitude. Very disappointing for a Hilton property that obviously caters to the business community. My table server was very accommodating and did his best to take care of me.
Note: I also had a lunch reservation there the same day.
Fruit Flies everywhere! When it was mentioned to the server she admitted it had been a problem. She later had the manager come over who did nothing about it except joked about the fact that they loved my bottle of meiomi wine & the filet mignon! I would have thought she would have offered me something....a glass of wine (not an entire bottle) since I had to scoop a fly out of my glass or possibly dessert on the house??? She did not even offer to refill our waters which were empty. I was not looking for a free meal but I was not expecting to pay that much for a meal where I was dining clients and had flies along as guests!
The dining room was marginally staffed - with the host(ess)stand being unmanned - resulting in potential diners (our party as well as subsequent parties) standing in front for 3-5 minutes before being approached. The Malbec we requested was "out of stock", with only a by-the bottle and significantly higher priced alternative available as a non-Californian option. Food was well prepared. It appeared that two waiters were working the room- and at leat one other table had to rise and approach the waiter entering orders into the system to alert him that they wanted some additional service - another bottle of wine. Servers were pleasant - either understaffed or undertrained and certainly no management visible for the hour we were there.
We stopped by for a quick bite on our way to a show. Service was excellent. We had the crab cakes and the steak and BlackBerry flatbread. The food was amazing. The flatbread was unique and a new favorite. We ended with the peanut butter jar desert, which was delicious! Drinks were mixed well. Great night.
I have frequented this establishment many times. The food and service are always reliably good. However, my last lunch there was supposed to earn 1000 points. I was only credited 100. I have sent two emails to Open Table regarding this problem with no response. After looking on the Open Table blog it is clear something is up as many patrons are having this same experience across the country. Is it time to drop Open Table since this consistent problem has started to occur with their new ownership by Priceline? What's up Captain Kirk?
I'm usually leery of restaurants in hotels. They're often over priced and not too good. I was pleasantly surprised. There were six of us and everyone was pleased with their meal. The service was very good. The prices were in line with similar downtown restaurants.
