Wonderful eclectic Italian bistro in the heart of downtown Lawrence Kansas. service, food and atmosphere were wonderful...surrounded by over 100 votive candles that set for a laid back ambience...a perfect filling meal of lasagne and Chicken Parmesan after a cool autumn college football game...
Went drove out to 715 for our Anniversary Dinner. We were thinking this was going to be a quiet place but seemed very loud. The menu was a little but pricier than we usually go for but for the special occasion we would look past that. I Ordered the Special "Lobster Ravioli" for $22 I was expecting more than 7 pieces of pasta. For Spending $120 I was expecting to leave full and we did not - this is not our kind of restaurant.
Tried a peartini and it was delicious. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. The cauliflower soup is outstanding. The staff does a great job of making you feel welcome. With so many choices in Lawrence for dining, 715 is dependable for its excellent food and drink choices in a great atmosphere.
We went for Sunday happy hour and ordered the sausage pizza, pork meatballs, and the dates and chorizo (I forget the name) to share. All we're awesome and perfect size for the 3 of us. We also ordered the ricotta donuts which were amazing. The only downside was that the service was a bit slow. I would definitely go again and recommend it to others.
Walked next door from the Elderidge Hotel to celebrate our anniversary. Candlelit, exposed stone, historical building. Low key, professional service. Very loud ambient. Lovely charred califlower. Steak was perfection; very flavorful for a fillet. Nice spanish wine. Dessert was blackberry sponge cake with Earl Grey sauce. Beautiful night!
We are from out of town and always look forward to eating at 715. It was a big disappointment this time. The service was excellent but the food was not. Always before the pasta looked and tasted homemade, the greens looked local, not out of a bag. I had Margarita pizza. I was expecting fresh slices of tomatoes and fresh basil leaves. The crust was excellent but the tomatoes were some sort of slabs of canned tomatoes and the basil must have come out of a tube because it was just lines of green across the pizza. Sorry to say we will no longer recommend 715 or eat there again.
Have heard so much about 715 and finally had the opportunity to have a special brunch there. Unfortunately, wait staff and poor food were not what I expected! There were two female wait staff and we happened to get the clueless one (the good one actually saw issues and tried to help one time!). It took 25 minutes for her to take our order, she never brought one beverage, just very nonchalant and really acted like we were putting her out!
One meal (the hash) was very good. The other meals had elements that ruined the dishes. My omelet was burned on all edges, and potatoes were also burned (½ inedible). We had to ask - twice - for the crostini that was to accompany the classic breakfast and the sausage was even too hard to cut with a knife (burned on one side, not cooked on the other)! Potatoes were burned on this entree also. Yes, the waitress did offer to substitute a meat -ha!- as she was clearing our plates! Maybe if clueless waitress had visited the table to check, before clearing our plates, she would have known there was a problem. Needless to say, very disappointed in our experience at 715. Had made a reservation for a large (8 person) dinner next weekend. After this poor first trial, I have canceled. We will go to another establishment that I can count on the food AND the wait staff.
My salmon special on risotto was outstanding, moist with a crispy edge and the frissee salad and nice bitter counter point. the Barbera I ordered was out of stock and I was recommended the Valpolicella at the same price ($5 off). it was delicious and like so many times before will be an addition to our cellar.
I've eaten at 715 many times since they opened and have considered it one of my favorite restaurants in Lawrence, until this last meal. We sat outdoors, where it was quiet because indoors the noise level is way too high. It took forever for the server to show up and then after we ordered drinks, it took a LONG time before she showed up with them, and only after I had to remind her when she had returned to see if we wanted to order. I specifically requested no salt on my appetizer and after a long wait for that, it showed up obviously salted. When I finally got the server's attention and asked to have it replaced with an unsalted serving, she balked at first, saying that right on the order she had listed NO SALT and she was sure the chef got that order right. Finally she agreed to take it back. Then our main courses showed up and the re-order of the appetizer came as we were nearly done with that. It was good though, at least. Obviously unsalted this time. About the main courses, these were also unsatisfactory. I had asked for my steak in my salad to be cooked to medium but many of the slices were way undercooked. My companion ordered the pizza special, but that was also not so good. The topping sand cheese were piled up in the center of the pie seemingly thrown together randomly and not evenly spread, and there was a large amount of crust around the edges with no topping, maybe 1/3 of the total pie. After the meal, it took a long time for the server to show up to check on us and present us with our check. Not really sure we'll be back. There are lots of other good dining options in Lawrence these days.
First visit celebrating our wedding anniversary. Great waitress. Food was good quality but expensive. Atmosphere was nice. The acoustics in the bldg was awful. A large group was seated close to us and their talking made it impossible for the two of us to carry on a conversation. We ended up leaving as soon as we finished our dinner because we couldn't hear each other talk.
Seated promptly but it was about an hour and 15 minutes before we got our food. Server was pleasant/efficient. Early evening reservation but special was sold out before 7:00 pm. Seriously?! If it's a "dinner special" and you have full house of reservations wouldn't you plan accordingly!? Ordered salad with medium well sirloin but meat was very rare/red Brussels sprouts loaded with salt like they spills extra salt on them. So loud you could hardly talk to people directly across the table. We are not picky diners and just wanted pleasant ambiance for dinner out with another couple. Extremely loud. Expensive for below par food and noisy/slow dining!
I had the garlic shrimp...delicious. We shared the beet salad, which was plenty big enough to share. I did ask for a little more dressing. It was good, but just a little dry.
Great meal, attentive service, pretty space, in a very fun part of town. Definitely a repeat
