we've been going to 709 for many years, and go there quite often . service is always good, but the food has been hit or miss for the past year. they closed down and reevaluated their menu and staff. the new staff is excellent, as was the old.
we have decided to continue to support 709 during their transition. Saturday's dinner was just not prepared to my liking. my fillet was medium well, when i asked for medium rare. the server was excellent, and tried everything to accomodate my requests. no fault of her own. but, the chefs should pay better attention to what they are cooking. the sushi chefs also need to check the freshness of the fish they are serving. the usually "red" tuna was gray. we tried a piece each, and decided not to eat it, and it was then off our bill.
709 was "the" place to grab a great meal.... look at my other reviews. not too sure anymore.
The waitress was completely outstanding. When I ask for a few limes in my drink I usually ONLY GET ONE. This time the friendly girl brought over a whole plate without me asking! She accommodated my sick son and made sure they had some fries for him. The appetizers and food was delicious. It was a little chilly in the restaurant as seen on other reviews. The outdoor dining does overlook the parking lot as well. We will definitely be back. Please lower the price a few dollars.
Noisy and wasn't even full dining room. No bread, you have to order pretzels if you want to eat something while having your cocktails.
Steak dinner was more medium then medium rare and the sauce was very light and bland.
Overall I think this restaurant lost its punch.
As a party of 6, I expected that everyone would get their entree at the same time. Not so at 709. First 2 entrees came out. Then almost 5 minutes later , 2 more came out. Waited 10 more minutes before asking the waitress when the other 2 would be out after she assured us that they would be out any minute. The manager came over and he told us he would check on it in the kitchen. Needless to say they were out a few minutes later. This is unacceptable in my opinion. We were only a table of 6 and the restaurant was not crowded.
So if a staggered serving of dinners is your thing, then 709 is the place to go. If not, don't make a reservation there. It is a poorly run kitchen with little regard for the paying customer.I for one will not be going back and I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The food and service were both awful. We ordered two orders of sliders and three sushi rolls. The two orders of sliders were both severely overcooked, and after sending one order back, it was STILL overcooked. The sushi was served lukewarm, as if it had been sitting out for a while - who wants to eat lukewarm sushi?? This was all after waiting for 10 mins just for drinks, never getting water refills, and waiting a long time for our food as well. AND they served two meals before the other two, who wants to start eating before the whole table has their food? The manager came out and comped us our food, not drinks, and we left without eating.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first time that service was lacking. We know it was a holiday weekend but we came in after 8:00 pm and the waitress who was only on day 2nd day of working there, had no clue that wine could be sold by the bottle. We had to go to the bar itself and cancel the order for the four glasses of wine and order a bottle. It took too long for basic apps and then meal to come out. We ordered sushi , salad and one entree and no bread was served or offered. When we asked for it , it came out ten minutes later and we sent it back.
Will we come back ?probably not for a while.
This Restaurant is always a good to go place. Our waiter this time was a little slow on the uptake . Our pretzel appetizers came out cold and soggy. When he was told about it he brought it back and they came back hot
and perfectly done. Everything else was delicious as always
obviously the restaurant was having some issues that nite. kitchen was out of commission. sushi chef left. waited an hour for dinner and was not satisfied with anything. was not told this when I made reservations that afternoon. usually have great experiences there. not that nite. not going back anytime soon.
We have not been to 709 in over a year and decided to give it a try. I thought it was odd that we could easily get a reservation on a holiday weekend, but still wanted to go. We heard they had changed management around Mothers Day. Very scary that when we walked in there was only one person at the bar and NO ONE at any tables....we almost left but then was told that they were serving people only upstairs. We went up and still very empty. We ordered specialty drinks which was always a favorite in the past. They were horrible. We sent them back (something we NEVER do). We had shrimp cocktail (figured they were always known for the raw bar stuff and how could they mess up that?) Awful... fishy tasting. Main couse was actually surprisingly good... scallops, short ribs and two of us had salmon. Must say service was very good. Overall a very disappointing meal.
Menu has changed.Server needed some polishing with his English (while reading specials that we had to ask for he started every choice with " we got"....horrible. Forgot side dish that came with entre. Bartenders were very slow to make drinks and place was empty at the time. Been there many times in past as we are locals but never. never again. . Quality has gone down. Sorry
The new menu was very tasty, but the service was not as up to par as I believe it should have been for a Saturday night. Perhaps, shouldn't have new servers on so many tables on a busy evening.
The tables are very close together so you will most likely learn some new gossip from the couple's relationship next to you.
Overall, the food was the best thing about this restaurant.
A good choice when your group has different tastes and budgets - a huge and varied menu - sushi, hamburgers, wide selection of dinner entrees - a reasonable wine list for a neighborhood restaurant. Large venue - huge bar, bar tables, tvs, bubble screens (good to keep kids distracted). Good location.
The restaurant has a new chef. My husband ordered short rib and it was cold and way overcooked. Had to send it back. Portions were small. I ordered shrimp and grits entrée and there were only 3 shrimp. Scallop dinner equally scarce on the scallops. It took a long time to get our meals. We will not be going back.
Went to this restaurant because my boyfriend mentioned how good the sushi was when he went a few years ago...definitely not the same. The rice was mushy & the rolls were so small, we had an appetizer that was way too salty. Our waiter forgot about us halfway through the meal. Definitely will not be returning.
Went here for Mother's Day for the first time. We started with calamari which was a large portion size but it was undercooked so it tasted chewy. We also had four sushi rolls which were pricey at $14 per roll and were extremely small and low quality. For entrees we had the scallops, and the salmon special. The scallops were 5 small rubbery scallops that weren't seared properly and served around a lump of poorly cooked corn risotto. The salmon was fair, served over asparagus with crab meat but was drowned in a thick cream sauce. We won't be coming back here.
Saw the ad that they are under new management with an exciting new menu which they posted. Have eaten there numerous times and the food was always good but poor service. Couldn't wait to try the new menu as there were many "intriguing" new items! Much to our disappointment, they changed the menu a week after posting their "new" menu...removed everything that we were excited to try. The crab soup was good. The crab scampi was okay but they put it atop squid linguine which was gluey, tasteless and way too heavy to compete with the delicate crab.. My husband was so upset that he couldn't try the new items (being they were removed) so he went to his old standby short ribs...mistake. Obviously they are heated in the microwave, cold in the middle and dry. The carrots were laden with raw chopped garlic. Server brought out a new dish...same problem, unevenly heated and dry. On a positive note the service was better than usual but with poor food choices and bad preparation there is pretty much no reason to return.
This place is hit or miss. The most recent night I went (with two friends) on a Friday night, it was a hit. The waitress was outstanding- very attentive and brought our food out in a timely manner. We were not rushed, nor did we have to wait for our food to come out. She was great! (When I had been here about 6 months ago, the service was very slow.) The food, calamari and chopped salad for appetizers and sushi rolls for main course, was also excellent. (When I had been here about 6 months ago, the food wasn't nearly as good.) It was great to see such improvements. The place was considerably more crowded than 6 months ago- perhaps that's a sign that others are also noticing and greatly appreciating the improvements. I'd highly recommend it for a great night out with friends.

This place is hit or miss. Friday night was a huge miss. When we arrived the hostess told us, they were only offering their lunch menu, which we agreed to. We came to find out, their lunch menu is lacking. My husband ordered Fried calamari and a grilled chicken sandwich minus avocado. I ordered edamame and a Mediterranean wedge salad, without added chicken or shrimp. Here's how it went:
Calamari was overlooked, rubbery, and tough. The edamame was fine.
My salad came out WITH chicken and my husband's sandwich came out WITH avocado. We brought each error to our server's attention at the time it was discovered. She apologized, reminded us, she didn't cook the food, and walked away. At some point, we should have asked to see the manager, but a decent server might have thought to mention our problems to her manager.
The best part of the visit was the sangria, which is the only thing about 709, that is always consistent. By the way, the dining room was empty at 8:15 on a Friday night. I understand why.
