700 Drayton at The Mansion on Forsyth Park

The service and people were amazing. The food was okay and the menu unimaginative and characterless. And a total sacrilege — offering Midwestern beef when there are so many amazing local Georgia farms — not to mention Southern ones. There are so many better, authentic Southern and just plain incredible restaurants in Savannah. If your time is limited — like if you’re here less than a month, do not eat at 700 Drayton. Just get drinks at the hotel and go eat somewhere else. You’ll have a more authentic Southern experience at Waffle House.
Savannah has some great restaurants and we always make a point to spend a night there to take advantage of that when we travel between NC and FL. 700 Drayton is one of the very best.
Was excited to eat here after reading the stellar reviews, but had a very disappointing meal tonight. The filet mignon was not a quality cut of meat, very tough and fatty. Returned it and ordered a Caesar salad which was just okay. Followed meal up with Nutella lava cake which was cold and not as expected, had to also be returned. My friend had the peanut/pecan salmon which she did enjoy. Waiter provided good service but overall left very unsatisfied as well as hungry. Had to stop for a slice of pizza on way home.
Great brunch and service in an exceptional setting.
It was St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. Only option was the buffet for breakfast. Quality was fair. Service was fair. We arrived early for our 9:30 am reservation. Buffet is as already set-up. Not appealing or as fresh as you would expect in the morning. The Restaurant was slow at the time.
Great service and delicious food. Had a lot of fun.
The reservation was made they sat us in the front .....the place is lovely.... then a group of 12 showed up well after the experience we had the night before ...the manager Zachariah stepped in and saved the day and put us in the back with a quiet library feel very private and lovely.... it was great..... for the future put the loud parties someplace on their own. What happened to quiet dinning.... but again I would hardly recommend this place for special evening and thank you Zachariah!
Great experience. Love the mansion, and the service was fantastic. My pork chop wasnt the best I've ever had, but it was very good. The crispy pork belly was tasty!
Staff could have been a little friendlier. Hardly anyone there. Food was pretty good except, the lentil soup had a VERY hot pepper (seeds and all) sitting in the center. I thought it was one of those small sweet peppers and took a bite out of it...not a good scene. I told the waiter that maybe they should tell people that the pepper was hot. Not much of a reaction from them (seemed sort of annoyed with my suggestion). Anyway, ended up an average brunch with average service in an above average building.
Three friends and myself went there for a fine dining experience while Visiting Savannah. We were very disappointed. There were very few other diners but the service was very slow. I asked for a Belvedere martini. The waitress said oh yes we have Belvedere. When another employee brought our cocktails, he said, " Who gets the Grey Goose martini." I indicted that I wanted Belvedere. He replied that they did not have Belvedere and had substituted Grey Goose. I realize that this sounds petty, but I thought I should have been consulted for a second choice.
The menu was very limited. The lentil soup, however was very good.
It is a beautiful place and obviously very historic, but neither the hostess nor our server could give us any history of the building. Bottom-line we were very disappointed and I was embarrassed that I had suggested this restaurant. I had eaten lunch there about 5 years ago and everything was excellent.
I was taking my wife to dinner to celebrate her birthday.
I was recommended the special.
It was not as described.
I asked to send it back and order something else.
I was asked to try it and just see if I liked it.
It was horrible, and too spicy to even force myself to eat.
I wanted to eat it and just move on, as the evening was about my wife and not my meal.
But I could swallow it , as it was biting my lips and mouth.
After what seemed like ten minutes of waiting (was probably on 5)
My server returned and said let me take that and bring you the menu.
I quickly order a New York strip “Medium Rare”.
I took them almost 25 minutes to prepare... they obviously didn’t care for my business and making sure I had a positive experience.
Then the steak was “medium well” almost “well done”
Not wanting to upset my wife and take away from her celebration I ate it and waited for the desert menu.
My services had offered every table next to me a desert menu, but brought me my bill without me even asking for it. Very rude decision.
I asked for the desert menu and order the pecan pie.
It was delightful.
So was our skillet bread...
My wife who managed a restaurant for 15 years was very understanding that things happen and people make mistakes.
I am understanding as well and tipped my server over 30% of our bill.. as the entrees were not something she has control over.
I was disappointed to later discover my wife’s steak was also cooked “medium well”. Even though she ordered it “Medium Rare”
This was not our first visit to 700 Drayton, although I am very disappointed in the lack of willingness of the back house to take care in preparing our entrees and fixing mistakes when they make them.
We will probably give them grace, and try again in a few months.
You never know what struggles another person is dealing with.
They had a bad day, we didn’t let it define our evening.
Spicy and Well Done
The food was ok. My meal was so spicy that it was almost unpleasant to eat, but there were no indicators of that on the menu so I was I was not prepared. Plus our waitress was not extraordinarily attentive. We would have to ask for more water, to order, etc. multiple times before it would happen. The ambiance was nice, but was expecting more for the price.
Lovely atmosphere and nice variety of breakfast & lunch dishes. Service was outstanding. Highly recommend.
Great location, excellent service, great food. Not cheap, but worth a visit
Very nice dinner. We enjoyed the ambiance, decor, and the food was very good.
Delicious and such a gorgeous place to dine!
We came here to celebrate my 40th birthday and it was fantastic. The atmosphere the staff, so welcoming. The food was wonderful and desert was delicious. So glad we came.
Wonderful Amazing food, gorgeous setting, good service.
The food was very good, we both had the peanut/pecan crusted salmon, and shared the lava cake dessert, and they were very good. Our waitress was great, and we definitely enjoyed our meal.
The food and atmosphere was excellent. Service was not so - very slow and not attentive
Our food was not very good at all. However, the manager was incredibly eager to take our suggestions and accommodate us. The service was great. The building is beautiful.
My husbandnd I had a fantastic dinner, Mark, our server, was very pleasant. he made us feel comfortable. The food was excellent, the prime rib was done just right.
Very good value. We had the salmon and prime rib. Both were prepared and presented well. The service was pleasant and quite good. We enjoy the ambiance inside as well as the glassed-in porch.
Service was just wonderful and the food delicious. Only negative was the charge for valet parking!
In a word - awful. Not only did the Hostess argue with me when I requested a seating change, but the food was mediocre at best. How do you screw up a salad?!? Dessert was disappointing as well. The Georgia Bourbon Pecan Pie looked like something from a Little Debbie snack box, but smaller & drier. The only good thing I can comment upon was our Server. Frankly, he deserves a better place to work than 700 Drayton. This HAS to be the worst Kessler Collection restaurant I’ve ever eaten in. Definitely won’t be back, nor would I recommend it for anything other than their convenience if you’re staying at The Mansion.
We went for the Valentines Day so there was a preselected menu. I loved the oysters. The pear salad wasn’t great. The entrees were superb! My wife loved the filet mignon it was a perfect medium I enjoyed grouper with the squid ink pasta. We also did the Farmers Market Tour and class Saturday morning and it was awesome!!
Our entrees were DELICIOUS, the rest *shrug* meh. The restaurant itself is beautiful; I just wish they'd pay more attention to small details like half-filled trash bags in the middle of the ladies' restroom etc. I did love the look of the establishment and we were blown AWAY by the entrees.
Was near the kitchen so that’s where the noise level was coming from. My date and I both ordered our filet medium rare and mine was over cooked but his was perfect. For the price, I expected consistency with what medium rare means. Other than that, it was a great experience! The atmosphere was amazing!
had opentable reservation... got there on time and they could not find my reservation. Had to wait
a while , while they tried to find it ./????? why ???? they did give us a table but very awkward.
Service was wonderful and food was excellent.
Our dining experience at the Drayton was extremely enjoyable. The staff were very professional and discreet. Excellent recommendations were made and the food was delicious.
Great place to celebrate special occasion or romantic dinner with your love. Food was delicious!
Great cocktails and a lovely waitstaff - not the traditional shrimp and grits everyone seems to offer in Savannah
Food was wonderful. Our waitress was delightful but was late arIrving at our table. The hostess took our drink order before our waitrsss arrived. Other than that, the experience was delightful.
We loved everything about 700 Drayton. Service was warm and attentive, food outstanding and the house itself is gracious and dramatic. A wonderful evening. The crispy pork bellies and the collard greens were especially good, as was the panna cotta.
Good food. adequate service, great Bloody Mary -- but, overall slow.
We visited this place during the restaurant week.
The food was very good but it was so dark I could not see the food well.
Food, atmosphere and service we're outstanding! Can't wait to come back!
Food was excellent, service was superb, ambiance was fabulous, value was great, due to Restaurant Week pricing, but the quality of everything, I would only expect to spend $$ at this establishment. The evening was a wonderful experience!
