626 on Rood...Modern American Cuisine and Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
We always enjoy 626 but a recent evening to celebrate three birthdays was outstanding. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our waiter was stellar and the wine was wonderful. A little noisy, as they were busy, but we stayed late and enjoyed good conversation as well as good food. The pumpkin chipotle soup was a perfect entre to our meals.
We found 626 online before our trip to Grand Junction and decided it would be the perfect place to celebrate our parents 80th birthdays. It was that and much more. The service from Kirk was outstanding as he was very knowledgable about the offerings especially for one of our guests who has strict dietary restrictions. He helped make it a wonderful night for all in the party.
Very special place and plenty of very special clients. Creative menu with very unique twists on flavor and healthful selections. You would me mistaken if you believe this place is unaffordable, and you can spend your entire food budget if you wish. So do go, and plan to enjoy yourself. 'Cause you will!
We had a group of six in town for an event, and went to 626 for dinner. The place was quite busy, but the service was excellent through our meal. We enjoyed the food--great preparations on the lamb, steaks, paella, etc. The wine list is extensive--we tried the wine flights, which were excellent, as well as an old Tuscan Merlot (it was great). I highly recommend this restaurant. Just make sure you have a reservation on the weekends.
I had the fish special with side of perfectly grilled vegetables, it was delicious. I don't live in Grand Junction but my wife and I look forward to eating here several times each year as we pass through. The staff is friendly: we arrived early and the bartender Laurie was very helpful discussing food options while we waited for our table.
The only negative is that I ordered a basic vodka martini; a traditional martini Is simply gin or vodka and dry vermouth. This restaurant does not stock dry vermouth but will make a martini using a Bianco vermouth which is much sweeter. Unfortunately they do not tell you they can't make a martini, they just make their version and serve it. I should have sent it back but tried to salvage the taste by asking for another shot of vodka to dilute the sweetness, for which I was charged another $10.50. I ended up paying close to $28 for the worst martini I've ever had.
I look forward to eating here again but just won't order a traditional martini.
The cherry reduction sauce was wonderful with the rack of lamb. The grilled peach caprese salad was a surprise treat. Our server was helpful in picking out a local wine to compliment our dinner choices. And the chocolate de Sade was worth the calories. Would go again if closer to home.
We had another phenomenal experience at 626 on Rood. We were celebrating 4 summer birthdays and they even personalized our menus! The seared foie gras was delicious as always! And the cheese plate is a must order! The lamb was top notch! The Marlin was the fish of the moment and was cooked to perfection. The pecan pie for two was enough for the 6 of us! The wine flights are always great. Our server and all staff are so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The owners Brenda and Theo really have hit it out of the park! We travel from Wyoming to eat here and go out of our way when traveling to come through Grand Junction to eat here. We brought 4 people from Wyoming with us his time. We will continue to bring people to your restaurant and we will be back! We can't wait. Thank you for an amazing experience.
Our work team has chosen 626 to dine on special occasions. We have also recommended it to our out of town co-workers. Every experience has been wonderful. From the intimate setting, to the helpful staff. Everything is first rate. The food is delicious, adult beverages outstanding.
Our group took 3 hours to eat and we never felt rushed or ignored. Well done 626.
We live in Telluride rather than Grand Junction, otherwise this would be a weekly visit. The food is innovative, probably the most creative in Colorado. The wine service Is excellent with reasonable prices, good selection and service available as flights, glasses, half glasses, carafes and bottles.
Always impresses me. Brenda does an excellent job with food and creating a customer-focused atmosphere. Curtis was a great server, always positive, entertaining and knowledgeable. Wine list is solid, local ingredients are outstanding and the menu always seems to have something new. Went with the foie gras and marlin, along with a fresh tomato salad with shrimp... can't go wrong.
