Like that they have no corkage fees for wine. We did not know and that was a pleasant surprise.
We normally get our steak med rare and the servers discription convinced us to go with medium. Bad mistake. Wife’s was over done and sent back. Rest of us kept hours but was more done that what we like.
Servers were a little hard to get a hold of. Each couple shared a bowl of soup and we had to ask 3 times for extra spoons.
After my wife sent her steak back for being over done, waitress was a little rude, but her descriptions did not match what we got.
Service as always is professional and courteous, however keeping waters and drinks filled seemed a bit of an issue. The atmosphere is again, as usual on a holiday Friday night, loud. Normally we get a booth but last night that wasn't an option an ended up at a table by the piano. We're older, one person wears hearing aids, it was reminiscent of a school cafeteria in noise level. The food was very good, no "WOW" factors but all reliable, very good. The cold water lobster tails were a bit over cooked, but as a cook, I get how easily that happens. Staff was all very kind. We generally see the manager during our meal, we did not. It was that busy type of night.
We reserved a space for our company party and to our delight, the space we reserved was perfect. We were in an area that was private and that's exactly what I asked for. The food was beyond delicious. Thank you to the waitress, I don't remember her name, but she did a great job.
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here last night. One of the draws to this steakhouse was the fact that an online menu showed that tomahawk chops were on the menu. Can't describe the disappointment when we opened our menus and there no longer was a tomahawk on the menu. After some explanation from our server, it appears that the restaurant decided to go a different route and now offers different cuts of steak priced by the ounce. My wife and I started the tomahawk tradition last year, but since we weren't about to make it to Las Vegas, this was our other option. While we were disappointed that we couldn't keep that tradition going here, the 27 ounce chateaubriand satisfied our meat craving. While not quite as tasty as the chateaubriand from Sir Winston's aboard the Queen Mary, our chateaubriand was cooked exactly the way we like it. We opted for a side of asparagus and garlic mash to accompany our meal. Since we came expecting to eat a tomahawk, we purposely arrived at the restaurant very hungry and had no problem at all finishing our entire meal. The chateaubriand, sides, salad, and crab bisque was all gone. The restaurant did take very special note that we were celebrating an anniversary and we were greeted by our server as such. Our meal ended with a complimentary chocolate cake.
All in all it wasn't exactly what we expected, but we were content enough with our meal that we would consider returning again.
We have been going to 555 for 16 years. We celebrate birthdays as a family in addition to other special occasions. We arrived for our 6:00 pm reservation promptly, which I had made several weeks in advance, and were sat at a rectangle table in the middle of the busiest part of the restaurant near the kitchen doors, there was a round table away from the employee bustle that was much nicer. The waitstaff literally kept running into my chair and purse that hung from it. The nicer table stayed empty the entirety of our visit, by the way! The piano player was terrible and the piano was LOUD! We could not hear one another or ourselves speak, for that matter. The food came out and my sons steak was cooked incorrectly so they took it back in the kitchen to cook the same steak more! It took 15 minutes! It was overcooked when they brought it back. He left it there and didn’t eat it. Then we did not get our sides until we were done with our meals! We ordered creamed corn, which was runny, sunchokes, and sautéed mushrooms. Not a single person at the table enjoyed their food. The lobster was cold, the bearnaise sauce was cold, the steaks were mediocore at best. The waitress “felt bad” and offered our party of 8 four free desserts. The waitress even forgot one of the desserts when those finally came out! She laughed and said “oops, I left the cheesecake in the window”! I asked that the sides be taken off the bill as well and they obliged. The manager never once came up to our table. The total for this bill was $660 with tip. The worst money I have ever spent at a restaurant. I feel like I was completely ripped off. I am more than happy to spend money on a nice meal but we would have had a much better experience at a number of other favorites. We will no longer choose to dine at 555.
I was a little disappointed after reading all of the other reviews. We made a reservation in advance, but we were seated on the patio near the bar. We were planning to have a romantic dinner, but it was too boisterous. The wines by the glass list was also disappointing for an upscale steak house. My filet mignon was okay. My fiancee's ribeye was much better. Overall, I was underwhelmed for the price. There are better restaurants to spend $200+.
Our server was great but I felt she was overwhelmed with tables. She asked if we wanted another round of drinks and we told her we were not ready yet and minutes later she served us another round. I wanted wine and not another cocktail but felt bad telling her. I wrote on the reservations we were celebrating a graduation and dessert would be nice but none was served, we had to order. This is the 2nd time this has happened. I have had reservations at Mastros for birthdays and when noted we were given dessert. Simple things like this show the extra effort. We were given the wrong check but again I feel the server was just given too many tables not her fault at all. Over all I will be returning.
We arrived on time but were seated 40 minutes late, not a good start. Service throughout the the meal was slow, but at least it was efficient. We ordered the table side Cesar salad for two and were told the cart was broken. Cesar salad was brought from the kitchen with a few anchovies tossed on top not mixed properly. Our steaks arrived cooked medium rare but to salty, the garlic mashed potatoes didn't have any garlic flavor at all. I have been coming to 555 when ever I am Long Beach for over 25 years and this is the first time I have been disappointed. I will try 555 again when I return to Long Beach hopefully this was just a one time glitch.
Really enjoyed our meal , the ambience and the service. This is a fine dining Steak House with a very classic nice ambience. We ordered Filet and the Sea Bass all of which were cooked perfectly and overall great, including the garlic-spinach and potato sides. Look forward to returning.
If you want a quiet place either for romantic or business discussion this is not the place. It is a very neat restaurant, a throw back to the old days of classic restaurants. Our service was great and the drinks too. Based on the menu this is a quality steak house unfortunately our steaks were just average which was disappointing to say the lease.
As several other reviewers had previously mentioned, the management of this restaurant needs to improve the service staffing and/or attentiveness. Our party was seated at our table for 30 minutes before anyone came over to check on us and order drinks. The two tables near us that were seated shortly after us were in the same boat. Luckily, we were having a good discussion among ourselves so didn't mind sitting so long. It's a good way to lose customers. The overall ambiance is nice and our meals were tasty. We had ribeye steaks and a seafood fettucini.
Very disappointed in their Thanksgiving Dinner. My husband had one piece of turkey (all of 4 bites), whereas I had three; the "garlic" mashed potatoes were runny, & made me wonder if they came from a package; gravy, ok; carrots & green beans were undercooked; "caramelized" roasted sweet potatoes were bland. Only good thing was the salad and bread. Seated right away, then waited for an hour before being served. Waiter offered no explanation of why our food took so long, then didn't ask which desert we would prefer that was included in the cost of the meal. The party of 3 seated across the way from us had bigger servings than we did which left us scratching our heads.
This is a very good restaurant for steak so my rating only reflects their Thanksgiving dinner. In retrospect I should have had a steak!
Our Thanksgiving meal was exceptional. The food was fantastic, our waitress was most accommodating, and we were able to enjoy the holiday in a relaxed, not-rushed environment.
My one request: please put that smoked ham on the menu! It was delicious and some of the best ham we've ever had!

The in-laws are in town and are able to watch our 2-year old for us for the evening. Great experience for a fine steakhouse in Long Beach! Great service through Lisa! Amazing recommendation on our wine paring for our main course. My wife order the 6 oz. filet mignon, cooked medium. It was cooked perfectly, even though I don’t have have mine cooked that way, it was still delicious and delicate. I had the bone in 30 day dry aged rib eye, 23 oz. (wasn’t able to polish it off, so I took home the left overs). The rib eye was incredible! Haven’t had much dry aged steaks but I do have to say that there was definitely a difference in flavor and texture. Highly recommend this place and if Lisa is working that night to help you out with your experience, then your definitely have yourself an amazing night!
It was our Wedding night, and we were treated like royalty. We were seated in a small room, and it felt like there wasn't an employee we passed who didn't congratulate us. We were so tired, but the food, ambiance, and service were all excellent. So grateful that we decided to go there for this special night and create such a joyous memory.
Everything was “ok”. The food was fine, the service was fine, the cocktails were fine...nothing great, nothing bad.
The Caesar salad table side (list as ‘made for two’) was $12. When the bill came I saw they wrote (for 2) and proceeded to charge $24. Not a huge deal, but really annoyed me.
If fine is fine, this is fine.
If you want excellent, head to Mastros!
It pains me to give them 3 stars. This has been my favorite steak house for over 10 yrs. Management has made a critical error in the menu selection process. The steaks are still great. However they hired there own butcher which is fine. Aged beef is now ordered price per ounce. Problem is you have to send waiter away to see what sizes are still available and figure out price. We found out they only have few selections of each. WIFE was forced to get a bigger steak than she would ever order. Up-sale and frustrating to say least. She would never order 28 oz porterhouse. A steakhouse of this caliber and only a cpl smaller steaks are you kidding me? Brad had to go back to kitchen 3 times cking how much our dinner would be once he figured out what was still available. We normally buy $1000.00 gift card every yr. Thinking not this yr. Service has gotten worse although not waiters fault, he's running like crazy between each table. Others we talked with said same, probaly won't be back. It saddens me to say maybe Mastros is a better option. Hope you fix this 555.
