We enjoyed our dinner at 51 Lincoln very much. The bolognese and the cod dishes were both delicious and well prepared. The service was welcoming and professional. Place has a nice ambiance. We will definitely return.

We made a reservation for dinner and were promptly seated in aesthetically pleasing space for the two of us. We had the watermelon salad which was a fabulous slowly poached slice of watermelon steak encrusted in spices and topped with a feta and truffle sauce. Devine. Compliments of the chef, we received a croquette that was a mix of potato and bacon encrusted in panko bread crumbs and fried to a crispy golden brown. A niece touch. Delicious. Akin to arancini. Billy, the GM, was well versed in wine. The list had an excellent selection at a reasonable price point. Thank you for assisting us in selecting a wonderful Gamay and Pinot Noir blend Billy. For our dinner selections, we chose the ribeye with a red wine sauce, Cipollini Onions and grilled asparagus. The meat was prepared to my requested medium rare and not over sauced. Devine! My wife chose the pork and mushroom ravioli with pine nuts and kale sauce. Lastly, we did choose dessert. That is a rarity for us. Pistachio ice cream was calling! The best we have ever had. Made on premises. Christina was our server and made our evening enjoyable. She was very attentive without being intrusive. In all honesty, this was the best dining experience we have had since last year. We love to dine. Thanks 51 Lincoln!

We made a reservation but ate at the bar. I had fabulous champagne, my husband had a martini that was amazing. The energy was vibrant, our food was fabulous, the service was personal and attentive despite the restaurant being packed--it was like being "downtown" without being downtown.

Imagine my surprise. I take a good friend out for dinner to celebrate her birthday and i chose 51 Lincoln because of the great food - intersting combonations of fresh food that taste great. Our server overheard me toasting my friend for her birthday and surprised us with a special birthday candle and dessert. Very thoughtful! Certainly over and above what was expected. Just a food example of a place that cares about its customers' experience

While we enjoy the food here, we've been twice and both times left feeling like things could have been better for the price. The watermelon steak is a fun novelty, but everything was just "meh". Our son's duck was overcooked in spite of being told that it would be prepared medium, it was more on the well-done side and therefore dry. The pickled beets would have been nice with the pate, which needed a bit more acid. The hamachi was excellent. We noticed several discrepancies between the menu descriptions and the actual presentations, for example, I had the miso-seared cod, which wasn't seared, at least not with miso. There was enough broth in the bottom of the serving (and a runny veg puree), that it really needed to come with a spoon. There were also some spelling errors on the menu. I know that doesn't affect the food, but at this price point and service level, please proofread. What is "dehhyrdated" onion? This time around the entree portion sizes seemed to be better matched than they were on our previous visit. The food is fine, just feel like it's not the special spot that other reviews imply. I think you can do better for your money elsewhere.

Made reservation through open table--which indicated a special "Valentine Days" complete 5 course menu or one could order al a carte from menus. When we arrived, we were told that we could only order from the 5 course menu. Choices were limited ( especially since my wife was allergic to oysters and we were told that there was no bread available because "they did not want to waste unused bread." Instead we were given pickled relish which was not very good.
It was cold outside that evening but equally cold inside --had to eat with our coats wrapped around our shoulders. They said heat was turned all the way up.
Portions were small and price was high for a limited complete menu.
Very disappointing

Service took a long time. Waited a long time for our check with no sign of the waiter. Also there was a couple there with a newborn baby. On Valentine's Day. Odd. We ordered the 5 course menu for Valentine's Day. The courses were all edible but nothing to write home about. Might try it again, who knows!

Menu changes and is always a good selection. Great drinks and wines. Service always excellent, and reservations usually easy.
One downside after a few different visits...the Chef definitely has a heavy hand with salt - works for somethings but can be overwhelming. I would prefer to add more if I need it.

Drinks were off the charts good as was the bartender and service in general. Overall i found the place very expensive, especially for Newton dining. I have lived on the South End/Back Bay line for the last 11 years so i am used to paying a premium and was surprised. Seems like a great occasion place but not a bite-at-the-bar place. Again, service was A+ and food was very good. I will go again, especially for the new drink making class.

We had been to 51 Lincoln once before and had a great experience - it was a fun atmosphere for a random snowy weeknight in February and the food was amazing. We went back last week on a Friday night and the restaurant was full (in a good way) and everyone seemed to be having fun. We had a reservation, and to our surprise were taken downstairs to a different dining room we had no idea existed. This room was in a wine cellar, which could be fun, but there were only four tables and it was eerily quiet. It felt uncomfortable to be having a conversation at a normal volume. It felt very hidden away from the rest of the restaurant, which I guess could be romantic, but in this case it felt like an awkward overflow room.

Our food and service were both great (the homemade bread is AMAZING), so we would definitely go back, but I would make a note on the reservation to be seated upstairs.

Our first visit to this restaurant with no special instructions given . Initially we were seated in the basement where there are 4 tables and deathly silent! We eat in Boston and Cambridge restaurants frequently and enjoy the ambience of a lively dining room . It was puzzling why we were seated in the basement . I asked we be moved to the upstairs and we were promptly seated in the dining room at an excellent table. Not sure I would go out of my way to dine there again

We decided to go to 51 Lincoln at the last minute and with no expectations. It was a surprising and amazing find. Great beer selection and a delicious Scarlet Martini to start the night. Parsnips soup and cole slaw were so good, the best was the Rigatoni Bolognese, no words to describe how smooth it was... We will definitively go back and recommend it to friends.

We dined early on Friday night due to other commitments. The food and service was excellent and we liked the low noise level of dining early. This is a somewhat special occasion spot since the prices are on the high side. But otherwise it is so good that we wish that we had it near where we live so we could visit frequently.

My husband and I were very happy with the food and service during our New Year's Eve dinner here at 51 Lincoln. We very much enjoyed the 5-course tasting menu, and thought that the food got better and better with every course. The perfectly-executed winter beignets were a great finish to the meal. Many of the reviews have said that the restaurant gets noisy when in full-swing, but we had the benefit of dining in the downstairs area, which was much more intimate and isolated from the louder music and chatter of the main dining room.

Thank you for a lovely evening!

I met a friend here for a celebration of our birthdays, both of which were earlier this month. The restaurant was wonderfully quiet on this evening two days before Christmas, which allowed us to converse comfortably. I enjoyed the Chicken Under a Brick as my entree. It was a generous portion, seemingly nearly half of a small chicken, served with pumpkin puree and Brussels sprouts. The chicken was moist, everything on my plate delicious, and bountiful enough that I made two meals out of it. My friend apparently liked her Faroe Island Salmon, too, as she ate every last bit of it (to be fair, it didn't seem to be nearly as large an entree as mine was). From the "by-the-glass" wine list, my friend selected a Gruner Veltliner (after having requested a taste of the wine first, as she had never had one), and I chose a Tempranillo to accompany my chicken. Our service was very good, never intrusive, and the restaurant's ambience very comfortable for two old friends having a special but casual evening out.

51 LINCOLN has become my local favorite for some time now. The menu is small, however there always seems to be something for everyone. They often have specials that are well worth trying. I have never left disappointed.
The staff never seems to change, indicting to me, great management, along with a teamwork attitude.
I highly recommend this restaurant to couples and foodies alike.

I've eaten at this restaurant 4 or 5 times. However, the most recent visit was disappointing. The menu has changed, and the choices are much more limited and uninspiring. And a bread basket incurs a charge. The main dishes to include a fish and a steak dish were well executed. The appetizers were below average. The bread pudding dessert was horrible. It was premade, reheated and tasted extraordinarily salty. All that having been said, this place is not worth the money. It used to be a favorite of ours, but sadly, after this last experience, we will never return. At least I received a 1000 opentable points...
