50 West Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Phoned twice...no answer. Left message on machine for a reservation then went on sight and reserved a table for two. Parking was 1 1/2 blocks away to find out it was closed during open hours of 18:00 Saturday Oct 22nd. . . Went to Hudsons instead. Should of communicated on Web site and or answering machine to customers it was closed. 😕 we've always heard good things about the food...I will give it another chance.
My dissatisfaction with my experience at 50 West stems from two main areas. The one that did not bother me as much was the ambience (or lack thereof). I cannot be particularly picky about ambience given the other dining options in Red Deer, AB but I was disappointed at the physical experience of eating in 50 West contrasted with the food and style they attempt to present to their clientele. The second point I am unfortunately hung up on is the price. Luckily my date and I had a gift card that helped with the majority of the cost of our meal. However, when I assessed the cost of our meal and the meal itself I could not help seeing a disparity. The total cost of our meal towered over the true quality of the taste and presentation of our dishes. For these reasons I would not recommend 50 West to anyone as there are bountiful options (yes, even in Red Deer) that will surpass this restaurant in value and overall dining experience.
So not impressed. My hubby and i went on a date for the first time in months and the portions were patheticly small, the price was way too high, the flavours were lacking, the wait time for food seemed like an eternity and both our meals were overcooked and dry. The only thing that was good was the service and the drinks
I will never be back
Although the atmosphere is that of fine dinning and the price accompanies that, the food is just okay. There was nothing wrong with it, but was lacking flavour and not what we expected. The menu describes delicious dishes, however, the reality was not up to par. The servers and hostess were lovely and the atmosphere is good. We will not return for food, but would go to have a nice drink with adults.
Went here for a business lunch. The menu looked amazing, but what was written down was better than it actually tasted. We were excited about the menu but one was raving after. The burger with lobster had potential but the burger patty and bun were dry. The patty almost seemed like it was reheated. Tomato soup was good. Friends had risotto but wished they had ordered something else. There is potential here but it's not as good as it seems. Service was good.
Won't return, which is unfortunate cuz have been several times before and enjoyed. Just left after sitting for 30 mins without even a drink order taken (and we had a reservation) not even busy, 5 tables, all but 1 only 2 people at each. Last straw was waitress taking order at a table next to us that came in 15 mins after us, then walked right by us.
All in all I would highly recommend 50 west for anyone looking to impress. Unfortunately my date was not a big fan of wine so we did not stay long. I really wanted to sample some food because all the plates the servers were bringing out looked and smelt fantastic. I will return.
We've eaten here 3 times prior and have had great service and great food. However, this time was a big let down. All plates were dried out as if they sat too long. One plate was just warm. The waitress left is hanging a bit, dripped the wine across the table after pouring. There were only 3 tables in the restaurant. The food took a long time to get out. And we all felt (6) not a great selection of food on the menu. Really nice that it's small but this time didn't find anything that jumped out. I will go back giving them the benefit of the doubt....Sunday, quiet night. But they certainly weren't up to their standard.
Without a doubt 50 West is fast becoming the best location in Red Deer for fine dining and excellent service, been there on different occasions and every time we come away completely enthralled with the superb menu and staffing attention........well done again!
We went for New Year's Eve dinner at 50 West Bistro. Our reservation was exactly as we set up on Open Table and the evening started out well. We were early so we stepped next door for a cocktail and the hostess kindly came over and let us know we needn't hurry to finish our drinks for our 7 pm time as the previous guests were just finishing up and there was no one after us. This was much appreciated!
Once seated, it took a fair amount of time for the waitress to make her way to us. She was hurried and very unfriendly. It seemed the restaurant was understaffed for the guests present. The waitress let us know that they had discontinued selections from the wine list and that we should pick more than one should the first ones picked were not available. This was rather strange as one would think she would let us know what was not available prior to us looking through the list.
The cocktails we ordered were good and the appetizers were "ok." Our dinner came out very soon after the appetizers and before our wine selection was taken. The dinners were sub-par compared to the other times we had eaten at 50 West Bistro and we are hoping that this was just a "one-off" and that the next time we go they are back to the great food and service we have had in the past.
Extremely disappointing. I don't mind spending money on quality experiences, unfortunately dining here missed every single mark. From medium service to a outdated and small drink menu (I would rather go to To The Lost next door and heard almost all patrons say they were headed there after their meal) to under seasoned food. I feel like maybe the chefs were trying beyond their means. Me and my husband are foodies and this was simply disappointing. I left hungry, disappointed and out $200. Never again.
We went on a Tuesday night, with Wed. being a stat holiday. it's a cool building but was super quiet that night, so we maybe didn't benefit from the full experience. Menu online looked better than the menu offered in reality...also not sure why stuffing would be offered as a side with soy/maple chicken...but both were ok.
Our favourite fine dining restaurant in Red Deer. Always excellent. Only complaint is table size. never found table size to be a problem when dining for two. Four of us were dining and we were using both tables on either side of us to hold our wine and water glasses. A very tight fit. Luckily no one was occupying those tables. The chairs were very comfortable.
My husband and I went for a date. The food was really good, I had the fish with risotto and he had the pork tenderloin. The only down fall was his portion was very small, he had to eat again later.
Pricing was reasonable, except the wine list. It was way over priced for moderate wine.
