5 Palms Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This is our favorite high class restaurant whenever we visit Maui. It is spendy, as are all aspects of island life, but well worth the expense. Great service, great food, and the dining patio has a fabulous view of the setting sun and spouting whales during the Season. We liked it so much the first time we went back again before the end of our vacation! I tried to post a great pic I have but the computer says it "doesn't fit."
5 Palms is a special place for us for date night, birthdays, and special occasions. The seafood dishes are creative and outstanding. The Happy Hour outside in the Bar area has a fun ambiance and the special plates and pupus are fantastic. We recently had the lamb chops and caesar salad which was an outstanding, fair priced meal!
Third breakfast here was extremely disappointing. Omelette was so greasy, I sent it back and ask for two simple eggs. Those took 10 min to come out and were swimming in oil. Just decided to it chose anything else on the menu as they didn’t seem to understand the issue. Server had no clue as to menu items, including the type of juice they serve or if nuts could come on the site of the pancake (which we knew was possible from previous visits). She wasn’t attentive either. Wouldn’t go back
We made reservations on open table. Arrived about 20 minutes early to have drinks but bar was packed for happy hour. They had a table for us so didn’t have to wait to be seated for dinner. The view is what you come for, we sat outside, it was wonderful especially after kids and families left pool area. We ordered drinks based on our servers req which was Oceans 5. Great glassware but drink was so watered down didn’t order another. Ordered appetizers and waited, I even had time to go out and take sunset pics, talk at length to security guard that was patrolling then returned to table to still find no sushi or apps. Suddenly server arrives with our dinner and we ask where’s our apps. Oh he was sorry he forgot to put the order in(?).
We had a nice dinner nothing to go on & on about. The server was friendly even helped take a photo of the 4 of us. The mud pie was the hit of the night for one in our party so he’ll talk about that for ever but dinner not so much.
Was really looking forward to our night out. View was beautiful when we arrived but everything went down hill from there. Don’t mind paying for a good meal but our meal steak and lobster was very disappointing. Rice was dry and hard potatoes out of a bag. Steak was a bone in angus steak on the plate it was not bone in or angus.
We often have breakfast or happy hour at the 5 Palms & love it, but New Years Eve with friends was very disappointing!
I didn’t see one thing on the menu that I was really excited about, except for the chilled lobster appetizer. My fish was cooked to perfection, but I didn’t really care for the rest of the plate. I think I’m quite adventurous with food, and not a picky eater, but was very disappointed with the limited menu.
One guest resigned to having a steak (because of no other option) and it was very good.
2 guests had the prix fix menu. They said the appetizer was “ok”. They didn’t enjoy the escargot, it included a very good beef medallion, an ok dessert, but horribly expensive. The server was friendly.
It was about twice the price that it should have been for the quality!
The spicy tuna roll and coconut shrimp were good. The Mahi Mahi was overcooked and tough. It was very pricey for what we got. We wouldn’t return. The stairs leading out to the patio are always wet and they have a caution sign at the top but my husband slipped down the stairs and sliced his arm open. They gave us a free bottle of champagne and the server was very nice. However, my husband has a pretty bad injury on his arm and it was our first night out on our vacation. Someone could actually get hurt much worse. They said they call EMT all the time. Eat inside is my suggestion if you visit. Expect overpriced overcooked food.
Christmas dinner...turkey dinner was offered as a special but it didn't look like anything special so no one in our party ordered it. Ahi had run out by our reservation time, ribs were chewy and tough. Pasta dish was ok, and mahi mahi was mediocre, and all was way overpriced for what you got. We may try on a non holiday occasion, but future holiday will he a no.
Christmas dinner - December 25, 2017
Pretty much an entire let down, other than the restaurant has a beautiful dining room and boasts some of the best views a Maui restaurant can offer.
$65 steak dinner - was warm, I'm sure it was pre-cooked and reheated, green beans must have been under warming light for hours, and potato dish was refrigerator cool inside. Kids chicken fingers and fries were $19 - less than average.
No ceiling fans or music were on so we asked the waitress to check on it. She came back and said they would turn the music back on but the fans were broken do no luck there. Very stuffy with a packed house. No music just the sound of broken glasses and people's voices and very muggy made it feel like a cafeteria.
When the server took my barely touched plate away you'd think they'd have asked what was wrong, but no.
I give this experience a 1 of 5. However, last year we had drinks and appies in the lounge which was worthwhile.
To me this is a top down management problem. From the time we walked in to when we left. Simple terrible. I felt sorry for some of the staff because they simply didn't have proper direction. Felt discombobulated pretty much all around. They need to work out a lot of bugs.
I would not recommend 5 palms! Our reservation was for 5:15 We got sat at 6:10. The service was non existent!!! 1.5 of our 5 dinners were edible...All in all a Terrible experience! The view is beautiful and that was the highlight of this dining experience!!!
We went for brunch Christmas morning and had fabulous crab and avocado omelets with toast and fried potatoes. I’d highly recommend this choice. Our server suggested cranberry mimosa- a nice added touch. She was bubbly and upbeat and the food arrived promptly. The view, of course, is exquisite. We will be back.
Local person who hadn't been here in a while but was very pleasantly surprised. Food (appetizers and entrees) was outstanding - generous portions, fresh (fish) well prepared and tasty. Service was great. Atmosphere pleasant and allowed for easy conversation. If your on the south side of Maui, save yourself a trip to Mama's. This is damn close to it and a little more reasonable. Oh yeah, and the ocean view is fantastic. Highly recommend.
The location was perfect and the service was excellent. One of our mains was delivered on a chipped plate. The meal also was delivered barely warm. I rarely return a meal but It was clearly sitting for awhile before being delivered to our table. The server immediately had it replaced... In less than 10min.
The food was good but not great. You could tell there just was not great care taken in its perpetration. Frankly disappointing for a restaurant that is purported to be of high caliber.
We had had breakfast here the day before, the breakfast was awesome. We returned the next night for dinner. I had the $48 lamb chops The chops were crusted with Parmesean but they weren’t crispy and really didn’t have much flavor. The rest of the meal was lack luster as well. It tool for ever to get our drink (they weren’t busy), then it took forever for them to clear when we were done eating. $200 meal that was not very good.
