5 Palms Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful service and a fantastic ocean view. The cocktails were very good and well made. The ribeye was good, but had a lot of fat. The en bastille fish was delicious and well prepared except that the potato ‘cage’ around the fish was only partially cooked and very limp. I’ve had this dish on two other occasions and the potatoes were cooked and crisp. The fish itself was perfectly cooked each time I’ve ordered it. The waiter was attentive, but not intrusive. He provided excellent service.
Made reservations for our Anniversary dinner. We’re seated immediately at a great location near a very nice view of the oceanfront and grounds. Price was reasonable for this upscale restaurant and my wife loved the lobster tail special. Would recommend 5 Palms to friends; as opposed to the super high priced Mama’s Fish House.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating with our new born In tow for that is giving dinner. The host went out of his way to have a table that was out of the way and comfortable for us to enjoy dinner with the little one. Food was great and served in a timely manner even with a full house.
Stunning location. Loved the ambiance and view BUT service was slow. Food was "okay". We went for Thanksgiving Dinner so maybe the large crowd made service a challenge regardless, if you want a great view, place you can feel special and dress up, it's a good place . I really don't have anything terribly negative, the food was good but not out the park like I would have hoped considering the price.
The only disappointment was service. We got the impression that our primary server was not assisted resulting in one entree coming out about 10 minutes after the other six - even the youngsters noticed the lapse.
A disappointment considering our past excellent experiences
Couldn't have chosen a better venue for a double 45 anniversary celebration as well as our daughters 30th birthday. Service was outstanding, personal and warm. Food was excellent, best ribs we've ever had anywhere. The staff signed congratulations card we received for the anniversary and birthday was a lovely touch. The friendly valentine service was certainly a welcome service that added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. We'll definitely recommend the 5 Palms to anyone going to Maui.
My husband and I have been enjoying this restaurant for years. We always go whenever we are in the area. The food is always great whether it be for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The view is beautiful! Our server during our last visit was Tori T. Tori was outstanding and truly demonstrated what the aloha spirit is all about.
I made a last minute reservation for dinner- had a table with an amazing view of the water for sunset. I ordered baked potato soup as a starter and the whole fish special for dinner- it was SPECTACULAR!!! Not only was the flavor awesome, but it was quite the show stopper. Other diners had to stop and admire the beauty of the preparation while I chomped away. I also had the Lillikoi Margarita- such great flavor! I have eaten here before- always great food, atmosphere and service.
Obviously, 5 Palms offers a staggering view of the ocean. However, the food is hardly worth the price (good, but not THAT good), and the ambiance seems like a weird combination of trying to be fancy and family-focused dining. The screaming kids and the over-priced food made it kind of a letdown. Not what I had hoped for our anniversary dinner (which they didn't even mention, even though I noted it twice in reservations).
There are 5 main reasons 5 Palms has become our restaurant of choice to celebrate our anniversary for the past 5 years:
5. The food
The restaurant is fabulous, with many delicious and creative items on the menu. The ambiance is to die for with a beautiful view of the ocean. However, what makes our whole experience memorable and keeps us coming back year after year is Roy, the best server on the planet. I can’t say enough about Roy. He greets us with a big hug and warm smile when he sees us come in and he can’t do enough for us whenever we’re there. He is beyond friendly and and attentive and it’s really difficult not to be drawn to his wonderful personality. I would recommend ordering their local fish specials. The ingredients are all put together very thoughtfully and precisely. 5 Palms is a restaurant not to be missed, and, if you go, make sure to ask for Roy 😄.
You won’t find a better beachside dining experience on Maui. Great drinks, excellent sushi, and jaw-dropping sunset views. Server was outstanding and went above and beyond for us, making a special occasion into a night worth remembering. You’ll pay for the privilege, but it’s absolutely worth it.
My husband and I were on our honeymoon and chose 5 Palms as our last meal on the island. We showed up a little early and told the hostess we would be at the bar. She asked if we were celebrating anything, so we told her. We were sat early (which was great) but had calamari on the way (do NOT order). We asked if we could get it delivered to our table, she had to ask someone if that was ok. Our server at the bar insisted we close out our tab, we wanted to get it transferred to the bill (we would have tipped her separately). Waitress shows up to table and asks if we were celebrating anything (lack of communication between wait staff and hostess). We ordered shrimp cocktail to start, took 35 minutes, I think the server forgot. Entrees were pretty good (special and steak/lobster). We both had leftovers and had to box up our own food ($50+ per plate). I spoke with the manager about my complaints and they comp’d our dessert (which should have been on the house due to our celebration). I am in the hospitality industry and it takes a lot for me to complain. Could have just been an off night for the staff but I won’t go back.
Food was great as usual
As a local I try the hotel restaurants
But today 5 palms was a real disappointment
Orders a gin martini and got vodka
Took 3 hours to finally get thru the extremely slow service
30 minutes to get our check
Just extremely slow service
We will go back but I hope this review is read by the manager or owner
Also Portuguese bean soup has beans theirs was very very little and usually Portuguese sausage but there was none.
But it was tasty for soup
Just not what it should be
I would not recommend this restaurant for anything but drinks. Pros: The drinks including the coffee.... The cons: The service, we had Jeff as our waiter and he was not friendly and we waited and waited for service, we almost just walked out. When he finally can over we ordered the Lobster appetizer and he informed us that they didn't have any left because they ran out of chips, okay how about some soup, nope we ran out of that too, ok what about just a CA roll NOPE that will take 30 minutes to prepare. We honestly started laughing. We ordered a salad and a shrimp dish, the salad had so much dressing it could have been the missing soup and the shrimp was over cooked.
There are many places in Maui that are just incredible but this isn't one of them. The service was just really really bad, try another place and save your money.
Hostess didn't seem to have our reservation. Assigned us to a table that didn't have a waiter. Waited 45 minutes before we could even order. The only redeeming quality to this restaurant is the great view. Would not go back. Food overpriced with poor service!
