4935 Bar and Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Good food. Tomahawk steak was excellent... but a tad on the rare side (ordered medium rare; didn't have to send it back, but it was rarer than expected). Great service. Ambiance was not cozy - restaurant seems to be in limbo in deciding whether it wants to be a hip loud cocktail bar or haute cuisine eatery. Next time we'll try Duck Duck Goose down the street (same owner).
Creative American menu enhanced with Indian and French influence, very tasty. Portions large. Good wine selection. Service very good. All those, plus the atmosphere--blue lighting, tables separated by curtains of chains of small steel marbles, piped in music--made for a really enjoyable classy early evening dinner until . . . . the jazz band and songstress came in, set up, and started to play. Nice jazzy music but way too loud for the size of the room and for an early midweek dinner. At our table for 4, which was a reasonable distance from the band, we could no longer hear each other unless we yelled, while the other diners at all the other tables found themselves in the same boat and had to yell to each other to be heard as well. We left immediately after finishing our meals and much earlier than we had intended. As a bar scene and on the weekends or even after 8 pm on week nights maybe that all comes together well. But for early dinner at 6 pm it makes for a short evening.
I had a very nice dining experience at 4935 Bar and Kitchen. The food was delicious and the drinks were very tasty. The only issue I had was the immediate change of atmosphere between 9:30-10 pm from restaurant to club. It seems as if the restaurant transitions from a restaurant to club/lounge atmosphere like this as the crowd changed as well. I wish we could have had a few more minutes of the jazz music.
Great mix of food..
I had beat cauliflower risotto...was wonder for my main course. Doesn't have a large menu, but choice will meet most palets. They will also be happy to work with you. Drinks are pleasant, and again, bartender is flexible, loves to play around...This is my second time there.. Will be back!!!
We absolutely loved this place. The food, service, and ambiance was amazing. What a beautiful looking place. Chic and modern. The chicken tacos were unbelievable. We both loved ours entrees- salmon for my wife and scallops for me. The white and dark chocolate mousse desert is a must. We will be back soon.
This was my second time there and 4935 Bar and Kitchen was just as amazing as I had remembered it. I shared the Tomahawk steak with my husband. He is a big fan of steaks and said this was the best steak he has had! Plus my dog loved us bringing home the bone for her. If it's available, get the raspberry sorbet for dessert too. It was so fresh and wonderful!
This place gets it. My wife and I went on a date on a Friday, and the food and service was just right. My only reason for the overall four star for food and experience was because our 32oz steak was supposed to be cooked medium rare, and it was not. But no worries, our server took the whole dish back and the chefs made another to PERFECTION.
"This menu has an identity crisis". Unclear what kind of cooking will show up. Server unfamiliar with any dish I asked about. Oysters inexpertly opened; bits of shell, oysters deflated and torn. Beet risotto was bright pink, but very few beers. Appetizers and main courses all delivered at once. Server scarce. We suspect the Indian dishes might have been a better choice, but who knew?
I read all the reviews and didnt really know what to expect as some people loved it and some people didnt. Count us as ones who ABSOLUTELY did!!
Ambiance is great and husband and I were able to sit next to each other at a table for 4 w/ metal chains giving us privacy from couples at the other tables. We went on a Thursday at 6:30 and by the time we left after 8 pm, it was fairly crowded at the tables and about 12 people at the bar.
Seated right away and our attentive but not at all intrusive waiter immediately told us he had put in an order for the Naan. It came out quickly and was too too good. Husband had the tandoori chicken tacos and I had the pork wings for appetizers. I would have thought my appetizer was the best possible until I tasted his -- OMG -- the tacos were wonderfully soft and had an Indian sauce inside and on the top that was delicious. The pork wings also had a great sauce and there were 3 huge ones -- I ate very bit of it and whatever he would let me have.
For the main course, I had the crispy bronzini and got the wilted spinach instead of the broccolini. They put something special inside the bronzini that was delicious and so was the spinach. He had the tandoori salmon w. coconut rice and it was moist and tender inside and crispy on the outside.
Strawberry shortcake was delicious for my dessert. I was afraid it was going to be on a sponge cake but it was on something like a scone, stacked up high w/ fresh cream running between the scone/cake and plentiful yummy strawberries.
Then it turned out, Sammy, one of my favorite waiters from another restaurant that has closed was there and recognized us. It was a fun reunion.
It was a great evening and worth the every penny of the, IMHO, moderately priced menu. So glad to have found a great restaurant in Bethesda and especially one on the side where it is not so crowded that you can actually find onstreet parking plus a public parking garage across the street
There was barely anyone in the place on a Saturday night. We wanted to sit next to someone we knew, but since we had a Groupon, they made us sit across the restaurant making the excuse of the tables were all reserved. No one came in during the whole dinner to sit at the table. Our waiter was great, but the other waiter for the other people was kind of a jerk. The food was kind of bland, except for the tacos. Not worth the full price they charge. The Groupon is a little better in value. If I were to pay full price, there are much better places to eat at down the street.
This restaurant is the latest of the bar/restaurant concept with a huge bar in the middle and tables for dinner around it. Food is an interesting mix of French, American and Indian. The chef did a pretty good job blending them together. The saag naan was very tasty. We had the mussels for starter, and my wife literally drank the sauce at the end. My tandori pork chop was well seasoned but unfortunately was a little too lean and dried. My wife's lamb shank was much better. The Rioja by the glass was excellent for $12. I should have gotten the name.
We got a Groupon deal for this restaurant and, since we live in Bethesda, we decided to give it a try. From an ambience standpoint, I get the sense that it can't decide what it wants to be - a bar or a restaurant. The staff also seemed to be more trained for a bar. The food was good, not exceptional, and the deal didn't seem worth it to us in the end. There are better restaurant choices in Bethesda.
WE were searching for a new restaurant in Bethesda and this restaurant was new to us. Being the very critical people we are, all aspects were critiqued. The server was excellent and knowledgeable, the delivery of food right on time - the suggestions were spot: lamb dish and salmon dish (the Naan was outstanding) were perfectly prepared. The atmosphere was simply beautiful and the tables far apart - each having their open privacy. A perfect spot for our evening out.
We had little idea of what to expect from this restaurant before going, and were, in most respects very happy with what we found. We arrived a few minutes before six for our reservation and found that we almost had the entire restaurant to ourselves! As time passed, a few diners in groups of two or four did appear. Our waiter was very attentive without hovering too close. The food is a melange of American mixed with Middle Eastern cuisine. Each of our group had different dishes for our main courses. In every case the verdict was a big thumbs up for the taste! There is a dance area upstairs and a large bar area in the middle of the restaurant. I hope that both do well so that this establishment can stay in business.
The food was excellent but they need more than one server working at night. We got there around 8:10 and didn't get up until 10:30. It took longer than usual to get our food but they definitely made it up with the quality of the dishes. I didn't mind the wait since my boyfriend and I were enjoying our time together. We were only in a rush due to the 10:00pm showing of a movie.
Friday night my husband and I decided to have our date night dinner at this hidden gem. The server was knowledgable and attentive. We ordered pork wings for our appetizer ... They were so amazing! Juicy, tender, flavorful, with a slight kick. My salmon was cooked perfectly and the crispy skin was exceptional. My husband's lamb was both tender and flavorful. Oh and the cucumber grapefruit gin drinks were refreshing. We will definitely make this place one of our date night spots.
We were warmly greeted and shown nothing but excellent service. Our waiter was attentive and superbly helpful. Drinks were strong and good tasting. Naan bread was best I've eaten and the mini tacos should not be missed. Wife and I split the Tomahawk Steak and there was enough to bring home. Only is that it was a wee bit too and could use a bit of garlic in the rub, but otherwise was flavorful and delicious. We had the mousse for desert and a couple glasses of champagne. We definitely plan to return.
