Very friendly wait staff, excellent food and a nice cozy atmosphere.
Place was good, seating was rough. Sat us against a wall near the bathroom.
The food is great, they get a bit challenged when they are full from a service perspective but they are friendly and the food and overall experience is worth being patient.
Had a great time at 49 Social before heading over to see the Nutcracker. Great food and great service.
We weren't able to sample any of 49 Social's food because we left after waiting 35 minutes for someone to take our order. We had 6 PM reservations on a Saturday before a concert at The Orpheum and were looking forward to trying the restaurant. We waited 15 minutes for menus and another 20 after receiving them for someone to take our order. It was even more disappointing that every other restaurant in the area had a 1-hour wait and we ended up in a food court. Won't try again.
Good food, service was a little off due to a a full compliment of folks going to holiday shows. They need to work on their execution a bit but all and all I would definitely recommend and go back.
The food was amazing! Chef was kind to accommodate our gluten free diet and change the seafood pasta to seafood risotto for us! Service was nice as well, will definitely come back again!
We had never been to 49 Social. Our waitress was lively and very sweet. She had a great sense of humor. The food was interesting and very good. Would have liked a more extensive drink menu. Excellent location for Theater, Orpheum, and Downtown. Great vibe.
Very comfortable place to enjoy a quick meal & drink with a friend. Ambiance of restaurant is lively and noise level was a little loud but not disturbing. We were seated right away for 5:30 reservation. My friend and I both ordered wine and apps with salads as we were not wanting a big meal. My tuna tartare was fresh and spicy but not too flavorful beyond the heat, however the caprese salad was tasty. My friend's shrimp cocktail came with 4 big shrimps as ordered and her beet salad was good. All plates and glasses of wine were reasonably priced and came out in a timely manner.
Wait service started out nicely but as restaurant got busy, our waitress came around less and less. Flagging her for another glass of wine took some time as our water glasses were left empty for awhile too. We noticed the nearby table was served a nice platter of bread which we never got and so when we asked, waitress's response was she didn't think we wanted it so she didn't bring us any! We had to wait again, trying to pay our bill. Overall, service went downhill which made for a bad ending impression. My friend and I may not return anytime soon since there are plenty of other restaurants in the nearby area.
we were vey well impressed with the food quality and presentation, a good wine list with good options at a correct price and finally the service was OK, not great, but I wouldn't say it is an issue, an excellent choice at a very reasonable price. overall a place to go and have delicious food in a good atmosphere
The food was good but the service was exceptional. The venue was quiet by is was also Election Day.
Food was very good. The owner was delightful. I would recommend dimming the lights. It's very bright in the dining room.
A little bit too expensive, but good. Thank you for everything.
The food was outstanding! I will definitely be back.
This is a hidden gem in the Downtown Crossing neighborhood. We enjoyed the creative food, especially the tuna tartare. The staff was super friendly and helpful in answering our questions. Definitely going back!
Sat in the bar area - service was slow but server was friendly. No one came to ask our drink order for at least 10 minutes after they had sat us and we had to flag our server down. The wine and food we ordered were great and I'd highly recommend the lobster flatbread!
The food was poor and despite us not eating the food and notifying the server, we received zero recompense. The menu was limited and misleading. My wife ordered a pork chop which was to be served with wild mushrooms. Instead there was one single mushroom type and the chop was extremely salty. I ordered the special which was a filet to be prepared medium rare. Instead it was grey and tough. Just a horrible experience. Despite good cocktails we will not be back.
The restaurant was nice and laid back. All the staff was very nice and friendly. We ordered items from the bar menu. All were amazing, especially the calamari. Drinks were very good. The dessert were also delicious. Will be back.
My wife and I went here for dinner before a show and we had no problems. The service was timely and the food was delicious. We started with the mushroom bisque and a wedge salad, then for entrees she had the fish special and I had the filet mignon special. The wait staff brought drinks appropriately, cleared and were not intrusive. The manager came to our table and asked how everything was going. We had a 8:00 PM reservation for a 10:00 PM show and with the meal, nice conversation, after-dinner coffee and a stroll to the theater we arrived right as the door opened.
Very mediocre experience. They were out of the first glass of wine I ordered, and the first two appetizers my husband and I ordered. Would be nice to be told what they're out of before spending time deciding on the menu. I understand it was the bartender's first day AND the waitress's first day, but.... not so great. Food was fine and they put us at a really cute corner table.
Great location in downtown Boston on Temple Place, near Paramount, Suffolk theaters and Godfrey Hotel. Casual, comfortable ambiance but with touch of class.... The drinks at bar - appreciated! The food was beautifully done (we had veggie appetizer, scallops, and oysters ) - very good presentation and quality on all. We will stop in again as we enjoyed the welcoming staff and good food.
What restaurant doesn't serve sparkling water, well 49 Social doesn't. Table water was warm. We asked for bread for the table 20min later.
I dunno what they put in the mash with the Filet Mignon, but it was excellent!
Based on the reviews, we expected a great meal with our 7 pm reservation. We walked in to no host and a noise level so high we could not talk to each other standing at the door. Thankfully we were shown upstairs where it was quieter, but the room was very dingy. One of our party struck out 3 times ordering her meal - the kitchen had just sold out. 3 times! The lamb ragu bolognese was like Boyardee. The rib eye was so salty that not one of us could eat it (they did take this off the bill). Thankfully 2 of our party ordered the salmon which they enjoyed and the only reason this place rates the food as Fair.
I have never been disappointed with 49 Social. I've gone to 49 Social for an engagement celebration dinner, casual dinner with co-workers, and just to the bar for a drink with friends. Always satisfied with the food, the wine, and the atmosphere.
Food was impressive.
49 Social is a great spot for something to eat before theater. Good location, great service, interesting menu.
The restaurant was closed for Presidents Day, yet they accepted reservation on open table, and neither the website nor the recording on their phone line gave any indication that they were closed that evening. I found out when I arrived with my guest and found it closed up.
Valentines day. Had an 8pm reservation. Showed up at 7:30 (came straight from airport). Checked in with the hostess who confirmed the reservation but said our table wasn't ready. We said we'd be happy to wait in the bar until the table was ready. At 8:10 I stopped the hostess as she passed by to let her know we were ready when the table was. She apologized and said she completely forgot about us, and promptly found a table (so I was glad I stopped her). All of the courses were well prepared and presented. There was nothing that we didn't like, the spicy tuna tartare was very good and the frito-misto appetizers were excellent, and the scallops and pork entrees were very good. Nothing ground breaking, but prepared perfectly. Classic creme brulee dessert was spot-on.
The atmosphere was a bit of a let down. the downstairs bar area I feel is more modern and comfortable than the upstairs dining area, which seems to be a bit of an after thought. It was Valentines, so the table arrangements appeared to be a little different to accommodate more couples, but the room itself is rather boring. The server was OK, some gaps in service, but overall she was adequate. We did order a cappuccino with dessert and the server said they could make a latte if that was ok, my wife said fine and then we smiled about that one for a while. I would give them another chance on a non-holiday situation.
Hostess did not really do her job well, did not provide the level of service one would expect when first walking through the door. Seemed lost and confused
Frito misto and lobster ravioli were great.
They have very good food and a unique ambiance. But they seemed understaffed last Sat night when we visited. It seemed a little hectic when the staff running around. They got our orders wrong but otherwise the food was very good. The lighting seemed a little intense. If it's a romantic restaurant or even a social one it should be softer light that's more pleasing to the eye. These small source, focused, high wattage lamps over tables make faces in a party look terrible. This restaurant can easily be very good by investing in better lighting and staffing, at least on Sat Nights.
great for pre or post theater. friendly service. great desserts...especially the nutella crème brulee.
This is probably one of the closest restaurants to the Boston Opera House and, being from out of town, that was why we picked it. The food, wine and service were good. The ribeye looked huge until I realized it was about 1/2 inch thick, which makes it nearly impossible to cook rare. Still, it was good.
Unfortunately not enough wait staff. Upstairs dining room had one waitress who also bussed tables. Several falls (literally) resulting in broken marble and dropped mishaps. Waited forever for food and check had to be corrected several times. Previously did drinks and bar menu downstairs before theater and it was great. This time had dinner upstairs, 5 pm reservation and by 6:30 pm rushing to finally eat. Food was great, but service was awful and no apologies.
We arrived at 5:45pm on a friday night - not many people there...we were sat upstairs, by ourselves, and our waitress forgot we were there. It also turns out they are a night club after 10pm, so they decided to fix their strobe lights when we were eating our main course. At 6:30pm. Food was decent, but the atmosphere seemed absurd for the upstairs dining area. We should have just sat downstairs - we would have had better service and attention. $200 later, we left feeling ignored.
Tuna appetizer was delicious! Ceaser salad small for the price. Salmon and pasta excellent
The service was slow from the get go, but after apologizing for taking 15min to even come to our table and give us menus -our server proceeded to continue with inattentive and slow service -my husband asked for anchovies with his salad-it came without -he tracked her down and reminded her and she said oh the kitchen forgot them? She said I will get them 20 min later and when salad was all eaten someone else brought them out. She never apologized or even acknowledged the error -our friend ordered a glass of wine that he wanted with his meal -as she cleared the salad plates he asked her to be sure to remember the wine -oh yes I will she said -meal came no wine asked again -no wine - he was 1/2 done with his meal when it finally came and again no apologies. Probably the worse service we have had -we barely made our show and we were at the restaurant 1hr 45min prior to show. Really a shame as the Food was Very Good . So convenient to Opera House -undecided if we will return. At one pt we let the Host know, that we were having issues and he simply said well it will be worth the wait - the food is very good. He never came back to ch ck on us the rest of he meal.
Had dinner here with my husband before seeing a show at the Opera House. It is very convenient. The food was delicious. We shared a beet salad, I had a pasta entrée and my husband had chicken. All were well prepared and very nicely presented. The service was fast, although we had several people waiting on us (they seem to use a team approach).
Waitress was great. Table nice, but food mediocre. Everyone's veggies were hard. Desserts tasty as was coffee and drinks. But for $ spent dinner was just okay.
