The food was what one might expect from a large chain restaurant. We had calamari as our appetizer and it was just ok. Served to us in a paper cone as if we were at the local bar. Our entrees were very bland and had been sitting for quite some time before being served. We expected a little more of a higher end place but we were definitely disappointed. They do have a dress code which is in no way enforced. We won’t go back and won’t recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Went before the Robert Plant concert. 6PM reservation, not very busy. Seated by the water-wall that obviously was very clean because it smelled like Clorox. Server was friendly but not attentive - example: didn't have a fork for my main course. Food was meh: Crab cake app - pretty good. Hummus plate - pretty good. Caesar salad - you charge HOW MUCH for THIS? Creole Grouper - eaten by two people who had the same comment - "Where's the Creole, and how about cooking it 5 minutes less?" According to our server, the menu was a "theater menu" - meaning easier food to prepare and get out, which would explain why the fish was so-so warm and overcooked. Or not.
In summary, no, I would not go back, although my friend said "Maybe again as long as someone else pays!" As my father-in-law says: "now that we've been here, we don't have to come back!" I'll stay in my Beach zip code -

They have the best fried oysters in town! Juicy inside and lightly breaded to a fine crisp! Also had the scallop appetizer and calamari.
The calamari was the best too!
We had a great server who always gives his best! They also have terrific single malt scotch and wine choices . The decor is very sharp and they have valet parking .
Great place and everything is always wonderful ! You can dress up if you want or dine casually .

Amazing from start to finish. Our server, Zack was exceptional and made sure our anniversary celebration was memorable.

Wait staff was on point, however on a Theater night, the wine I requested should not have been sold out. It's not a hard wine to keep on hand, I had to get a half bottle, which was ok, but I would have preferred the choice I wanted..

A bad experience. We had tickets for a 7:30 pm show at a venue two blocks away. Reservations were at 5:45. We arrived a few minutes early. At that time the restaurant was not busy. A few minutes after we were seated, people were seated at the next table.

We ordered she-crab soup and entrees. The soup took too long to arrive and was mediocre. The next table received their appetizers before we did.

The next table received and finished their entrees. We were still waiting for ours.

At 6:45, we still had not received our meals. I realized that we no longer had enough time to eat, pay, and walk to the theater. I notified the hostess that we were leaving and to cancel our order. She called the manager, who told me the food was being plated. I told her we didn't have time to eat. Rather than apologizing for the slow service, she chose to debate the issue. She said the reason the other table received the entrees first was because they hadn't ordered appetizers. When I told her that they had, in fact, ordered appetizers, she then claimed that their appetizers took less time to prepare. She also said that the theater was only a 2 minute walk. I then pointed out that one of our party was an older person who had to walk slowly.

Altogether, a poor "dining" experience.

I absolutely love this restaurant. I am never disappointed in the food or the service. This was a first time visit for my dinner companion. She cant wait to visit again

I was seated promptly for my reservation. The waiter was very charming and courteous. Unfortunately, it took a while to receive food and no one notified us until it finally arrived. It was not busy for a Sunday evening, but apparently they ran out of supplies. My dates appetizer was missing ingredients, which we sent back and they fixed. I’m sure only because we noticed and notified. We received dinner almost an hour after ordering it, one of the managers told us that there had been an issue and apologized.
The place has nice scenery and the workers are courteous but for the prices I would expect a bit better service. The food taste is also nothing out of the ordinary. This is my second time attending, first was during restaurant week about a year ago. 456 Fish is not apart of my top 5 choices in Norfolk for dining. I have only attended dinner meals though. For the experience or if you’re simply trying to impress someone because of the high prices I recommend at least trying once.

We've previously enjoyed 456 Fish but feel it has changed in our last couple of visits. Two of us ordered the she crab soup and had to pick shell pieces from our bowls. The waiter/kitchen mixed up our order and one in our party had to wait for her dish while the rest of us were served. I was told the crab cake (crab balls?) Were mostly filler and not very good. There was a mix up with the checks and then that had to be resolved. It all worked out in the end, and we got to the show on time, but it wasn't as pleasant an experience as it should have been.
