First time visit. Will be back if ever in Columbia again. Great place, great staff, outstanding food & beers. Four of us met in Columbia for pre-Xmas lunch since it was about half way. Two came from St Louis and two from Kansas City. Picked this place due to reviews on TripAdvisor. We met for lunch and stayed about 3 hrs. Didn't have any problems with noise like a few reviews mention. But this was a lunch crowd. Great menu with plenty of things to choose.
We had 2 extra people and I feel like they could’ve squeezed us in where the other 10 were set up, but they didn’t offer it as an option. Service was great at first but then she got a little behind and we had to wait on refills from the bar. The food was excellent though.
Dined before a basketball game. We had chicken liver appetizer which was amazing - livers and mushrooms marinated in Worcestershire sauce and served over arugula. I had the pork belly sandwich which took at avocado BLT to a higher level. Great beer list and great service. We are returning this Saturday to try more of the menu!
I made reservations in advanced. This was a special dinner with my folks who were in town. When my husband and I arrived, we were seated in a booth (that was not really a booth), that was a larger table split by a curtain and it was near the kitchen. It was loud and VERY difficult for my husband and I to converse with my parents . It's hard to describe but they weren't even seated across from us - they we were all basically sitting in a line next to each other. I was SO disappointed and I should have asked for a different table, but you would think that if you made a reservation ahead of time that you would be seated in a "normal" booth and not by swinging doors and the clatter of the kitchen.
The drink my husband received was "flat"- had to send that back, but I loved my salad. I have never had bad food there (always good), but it's kinda funny that you can ask for grilled chicken on your salad and get it one time, but the next they say "we can't do that". Not very consistent. Sorry!
It's a great place for a casual dinner (or even a formal), but make sure when making reservations you do NOT sit by the kitchen. :) Call - don't make them online!
They take reservations which is a huge plus. Especially on busy MIZZOU sports nights. Greatly appreciated. A little tricky to find but worth it. Good food. Friendly hostess and waitresses. A lot of beer choices, which can be overwhelming. Have enjoyed this place for several years. Food is consistently good.
We had dinner on a busy (homecoming weekend) evening - I can't say enough about the level of attention and working through additional people, etc in an extremely professional way - in addition awesome service level and the food was amazing. Will be back and have been talking you up all weekend!
The restaurant was empty and we got seated next to2 12 top kiddy tables and the bathroom. We enquirer about changing tables, which they eventually accommodated after telling us they had many reservations, including ours!, but they worked on squeezing us into a different table in the main dining room, which was empty. Our new server was uninterested in doing her job. We had to ask her what the evenings specials were, what the soup was, etc. lots of attitude from the hostess and wait staff. Food ok.
We met my son and his fiancé for lunch. My wife and I had the English Bread pudding, bacon and two eggs. I have had bread pudding before but usually for dessert, not the main entree. It was great!! The bread pudding was moist and very enjoyable, it was accompanied by the best bacon I have ever had and two eggs sunny side up. Service was excellent and the price was very reasonable for the quantity of food. Highly recommend this spot
We had a most excellent dinner at 44 Stone Public House. We began with lemon drop and gazpacho martinis and we enjoyed both. We made it clear to our server we wanted to enjoy our drinks before we ordered and she honored that request.
My husband ordered deviled eggs as a starter. I don't even like deviled eggs but these were delicious. We placed our dinner order as we finished with the eggs.
I asked whether the kitchen would cook salmon to medium-rare and she assured me they would. It came medium-rare!!! I thought their signature potatoes were a bit different but I had plenty to eat.
My husband ordered the Rueben which was not really a Rueben - it was thinly sliced pork loin with a special cabbage. He really liked it.
The noise level was quieter than moderate and we could talk to each other.
We would definitely go back if we were in Columbia again and highly recommend it.
We have had better experiences at 44 Stone before. On a Sunday night the seven of us were put into an odd corner table when there were many other open larger tables. We were told they didn't have enough wait staff to put us somewhere else. That was sometimes evident in the waits between seeing staff and in how long it took our drinks to arrive.
Our party ordered drinks, appetizers and dinner. One guest asked if he could pay additional to get 7 pieces of deviled eggs instead of the 6 it came with. He was flatly refused. When he asked for the manager she said she was the manager. One of the gin and tonics came to the table as gin and soda water. And sides that were substituted were not brought out correctly but were then corrected. After telling one guest that if she wanted blue cheese olives it would be $1.25 for a side of blue cheese, to which she happily agreed, the waitress then brought out the drink with three olives stuffed with blue cheese, for the additional $1.25. We were pretty sure she got a lot less blue cheese then she paid for, but that's just our guess. If your guest is fine with the side why change it without asking?
Everyone was happy with the taste of the food that they ordered and it did come out hot. However, all in all, it wasn't the best experience we have had there. For a locally owned and operated restaurant it was a disappointment to have them be as inflexible as they were on the deviled egg request, how hard would that have been, and although staffing isn't always easy we were there at dinner hour, 6pm, not 8pm. Don't know if we will try another Sunday night there but we will most likely return at some point in time, we do like the menu.
Had a reservation, we were seated immediately in a roomy both, with tablecloth. Our orders were taken promptly (although our waitress had just come on duty and had to check on a couple of things), our drinks and appetizers were there very quickly and the appetizers were very good and a sufficient amount for the 5 of us to share. Unfortunately, our three guests were not well satisfied with their meals, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered. The servings were very well presented and of generous proportions.
Our only complaint would have been that our ticket was for 6 meals instead of 5, which my husband did not catch until after we returned home that night. He called the establishment the next morning, got a recording, left a message, did not receive a call back, so drove back to talk with the manager and the waitress who served us. They were both very gracious, apologetic and refunded him the price of the "extra" meal. So, all is well that ends well. Yes, we will go back again (maybe not take guests who aren't willing to try something a little different).
My salmon was wonderful and cooked to perfection. The waiter was great but for a graduation weekend in a college town, even though it was a Sunday, we felt dessert wasn't really an option, as they told us the kitchen closed in 5 min. Our reservation was at 7:30, so not late after a graduation. There were 12 of us, so even if half of us got dessert, could have been huge had we not been told that.
The entire night was amazing. We came super early and had a reservation but they were willing to work around it and seat us early. The waiter was very professional and had a great sense of humor. The appetizers, main entree, and desserts where outstanding and completely worth the price. If anything I felt like I under paid for the amount of food I got and the quality of the food. I will have my future events at Stone 44. We were in a back room that could easily seat 13 people or more and it was quite enough in there that we were not contending with the rest of the restaurant. Great Drink Selection too. Really had a great night. Would highly recommend.
Still don't understand why when I made reservation on Open Table the earliest time I could get was 9 pm. Since we finished graduation early I called restaurant and asked if anyone had cancelled so we could possibly get in early; was told no cancels but they could move us up. Got to restaurant which was half empty and remained that way the entire 1 1/2 hrs we were there! So why couldn't we get earlier table from beginning??? Then, I ate only half of meal (sirloin was very dry although supposed to be med rare), asked for to-go box waitress took to box up. Waitress never brought~~when asked her where it was she said she set down and kitchen staff mustve thrown away. Said she was sorry & could she do anything to make up, then said "I have some Oreo cookies~~DUH!! I lost 1/2 of my dinner. Finally asked if she could get me a piece of cake then immediately said "I'll have to pay for it. We didn't respond, she walked away then came back with a piece of cake. Not a great experience!!!
Awesomeness!! It was our sons graduation, hadn't been to this restaurant and it did not disappoint 10 of us went for lunch . Not one had a bad meal, I would highly recommend the fish and chips or look at their daily special. The Reuben sandwich also was outstanding. Start out with the fried cheese fritters, they won't disappoint. Amazing restaurant must try when in Columbia .
