44 & X Ratings and Reviews
Fantastic from the start. The host met us with enthusiasm and a smile. We were seated immediately. Our waiter met us at the table and quickly returned with our first round. The menu was full of fresh and creative choices. Our waiter provided good guidance when asked about our selections. The chef did not disappoint. Wonderful tasty food. Fantastic service. (And clean restrooms)
Restaurant is incredible. We are from out of town and have now had dinner there twice separated by a year. Both times were incredible. The wait staff actually remembered us from the time before. Food is awesome and they are very accommodating. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Great service, great food! Waiters helped make our evening special with their fun personalities!
Recommend their turkey meatloaf! We all enjoyed the atmosphere and walked out with matching T-shirts!, could have been the Bourbon Tale! Thank you for an enjoyable evening.
Etc. Etc. Etc. I can be very concise, do not require 50 words!
I’m a New Yorker and had cousins from Oirtugal staying with me. They wanted to try American food. They thought hamburgers, fried food, and such were classic American cuisine. I brought them here to see that American food is so much more then that and they LOVED the food, with its creative recipes and loved the cocktails. It was one of their favorite meals.
I brought my mum for dinner while on holiday in NYC having been there nearly 10 years ago with my husband. I am happy to say the place has even improved with time! Lovely ambience, great service, really friendly staff, great food, wine and cocktails. I will definately be returning on my next trip!
Fantastic and attentive service. Every time I come here I am more impressed with their energy, patience, and ability to be attentive without invasive.
Huge cocktails!! Menu has so many choices it was hard to decide--so a great reason to return. Good portions and prices for NYC. Shared the beets and the hamachi appetizers, duck was delicious, and the fried chicken was juicy and breaded perfectly. Have gone before for lunch where salads, macaroni and cheese and Chardonnay are perfect. Desserts a must.
Loud--and tables are comically close to each other, even for NYC. You will possibly sit on someone's lap or at least bump elbows with the person you're galley seated next to. I've become friends with couples next to us because it's hard not to get involved with their conversations or ordering choices.
Hell's Kitchen is dripping with restaurants. This one is one of the best. Don't mistake it for the place next door. That one is fine, but 44 and X is much better (though 44 1/2 is quieter and has a cute patio).
Our first time there, altho we live only 4 blocks away. Very lively, festive, interesting and varied menu. Had a reservation, seated immediately, but a good 10-12 minutes before our waiter came by to take our drink order. After that service was good. The table next to us (we were 2, they were 5) had already finished their dinner by the time we sat down, but they continued to have drinks throughout our whole meal. That drove up the noise level considerably. It would have been too hard for conversation if there'd been another noisy table around us. My husband had the special Chilean sea bass, I had the herb and garlic roasted chicken. Both were excellent. Portions were adequately sized. No room for dessert, but would enjoy going back for an afternoon wine/salad/dessert stop some lazy Saturday or Sunday when we can. Too pricey for weekday eats, but good find for weekends.
A gem of New York City. At times, it's difficult to find pre and post theater restaurants, but not here. The decision to eat at 44 and X isn't difficult, just do it. And it's so much more than a restaurant convenient to the Theater District. It is truly one the great restaurants that NYC is known for, and that's a high bar. The food, cocktails, and service were exemplary. Very creative menu with many options. The beef filet, pork tenderloin, crab cakes, and mac and cheese among other dishes we've tried are exquisite. Go!
The food is good overall, but it’s not cheap and some of the employees (host and bartender, notably) looked and acted annoyed to be there. If they reduced prices by 10-20% and gave employees remedial training in how to smile and act like you care, the place would be in my regular rotation.
The menu is a bit all over the place, ironically, the bar menu specialty drinks is lackin in diversity. Most of the drinks are made with dark liquor. Ever hear of gin or vodka?
Service was outstanding. And the food we did get was great but the menu needs some serious rethinking.
Loved everything. From the service to the food - all wonderfully served and prepared. Our server Matt had an intense knowledge of the menu and wine list to guide us in our decisions. We enjoyed the fennel and arugula and the chopped salads, the maki-mahi and the lemon sole entrees, dessert of petit fours and cookies. Can't wait to return!
We went for a pre-theater dinner. They have a large menu ... so many good choices. I thought how could the food be good with so many things on the menu. All the main courses were excellent... between us we had the pork, sirloin & halibut. Each dish was very well prepared & plated. They were also very good about getting us out in time for the theater. I would definitely go back.
Outstanding food, and a very good choice for pre-theater dinner. nice waiters. we went back for dessert after the show.
Only (minor) complaint was that our two-top table was almost comically close to the next table. That's not unusual in Manhattan, but these particular tables faced each other, forcing you to look directly at the other diners. awk. fortunately our new dinner mates were friendly and laughed it off with us.
