Came to NYC This past weekend for my bfs birthday weekend and had to come back to 44 we have to come here anytime we take a trip to the city. The prices are reasonable, love the atmosphere, it can get very busy but it’s never super noisy, and the servers are always wonderful. Highly recommend this place, but make sure you make a reservation so you’re guarwnteed to get in.
The service was awful. Used to love this place—my, has it seen better days. We were a party of two tonight. At the end of our meal, the bartender described it as a “pretty light” Friday night. Nevertheless, it took 24 minutes for the bartender to stop long enough to ask us what we wanted after we sat down and 20 minutes after that for us to get our drinks (during that time, we saw no fewer than a dozen drink tickets arrive after, and get served before, ours). She made excuses all night for being slow or not doing what she said she would (Bread, silverware, drinks, taking our order) based on the orders she was getting (despite the fact she later described it as a light night). She also couldn’t be bothered to answer our questions about the menu (she tapped in a waiter to answer our questions—but not to take our order). Shortly after my entree arrived I asked for another drink. Nearly 20 minutes later (when I was done), she made it.
Fabulous! Great food, lovely staff, not to be missed!
Neighbourhood feel with great ambiance. Interesting and flavourful dishes that were beautifully presented.
Really enjoyed my latest visit to 44 & X. First of all it is VERY friendly. Great staff for sure. The bar is great and the bartender was very knowledgable about wine. My friend and I sat at the bar and went to dinner. the wine is a bit pricey so be aware of that fact. Our waiter was great and knew the menu. I had one of the best fried chicken meals EVER. How do you make fried chicken and it not be greasy. Worth a trip back just for that. When we first got there it was very noisy. It seemed to quiet down later in the evening. I highly recommend 44 & X.
Perfect for pre theater brunch on Sunday. The staff was warm and welcoming...respectful and attentive wait staff. Good variety and choices for brunch.
Had pre-show Sunday brunch with six people and everything from the mini muffins provided before the meal to the food itself and the Bellinis were spot on.
Always enjoy our experience here. Food is consistently excellent and the room is lively. Tight quarters mean you get to know your neighboring diners a bit, but that is half the fun. We love dining here and will definitely return soon.
Saturday lunch. The host was uppity. Our table must have been the worst in the house (behind a pilar, but it was immediately ready). No specialties. By the glass wines: one white, one red. The white not too good. Food taste and presentation were lackluster. This restaurant's best days are far behind them, but due to the poor selection of restaurants in this area, they continue to exist. Nothing special here.
Great food, a bit crowded but try to go to brunch there whenever in thee city
Went for pre-theater when restaurant was empty. Service was not particularly warm. Menu reaches beyond the kitchen’s capacity. Food was overly salted. I did like the design & vibe of the restaurant & it’s windows are lovely.
Did not disappoint- highly recommend.
Second time here and the food and service is amazing!
This restaurant is one of our favorites for a pre-theater dinner. The food is excellent, as is the service. Highly recommended! The fish dishes are particularly outstanding.
I go to this restaurant for dinner a lot and it’s consistently good, not great. But brunch was excellent. They are generous with their portions, the good is good and it’s a lively atmosphere.
I live out of state and have made this restaurant my first stop for brunch for several years now at least twice a year. The food is delicious, the hosts are friendly and the wait staff is friendly and proficient. I highly recommend this restaurant. Have taken several friends with me over the years and they ALWAYS want to go back when riding up to NYC with me. Reservations are highly recommended as the restaurant fills up quickly.
Meal was delicious! Possibly one of the best I ever had! It's a busy place so a little noisy but definitely could hear my dinner date -- staff was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend it!
We were limited to a main dish because we were hurrying to theater. The vegetables in the lobster casserole were varied, perfectly cooked and included my favorite artichokes. Sauce was rich but did not overwhelm the delicate lobster and clearly flavored vegetables. The rolls were first rate.
This is always a great place. The food was astonishing, and the rooms just lovely. Very celebratory but still sleek and modern.
Love to go there!
44 & X was good, very busy--a reservation was definitely needed.
A bit rushed service. They took our order for cocktails after dinner which didn't arrive for some time but immediately after they brought our check and kept checking every minute. They were hovering over our shoulder and kept asking if every thing was okay (implying, why are we still there?). Although the food was okay and we've frequented here many times in the past, the service is gone down. Perhaps time for this venue to close like it's sister restaurant 44 and 1/2.
I like 44 & X but would avoid breakfast or brunch. Maybe the $24 mexican omlet is OK but the $18 silver dollar pancakes with sausage are less than interesting.
we were a large party and the wait staff was incredible! The kitchen crew more than pulled there weight with our guests- food came out pretty much together dishes were warm and each beautifully plated. Unfortunately host for new year's day seems a little put out by us and wasn't that gracious. In the end though - he wasn't a factor. SO if you're a walk in and don't feel particularly welcomed at the door - ignore it. Once past the host everyone in the place is a delight. And the brunch is unsurpassed. Enjoyed!
This place will always be a favorite and a great place for out of towners looking for a great NY vibe.. From app to desert the food never fails to be delicious.... I do wish however they would bring back the pork chop and the onion rings.... two favorites that I miss!
The food was great and service was amazing as well. The tables are extremely crowded, as in there is not even room to get out of your seat as the tables are spaced a few inches apart. Having basically no personal space and practically eating on top of each other ruined the vibe.
Went for brunch/lunch - delicious food (ordered salmon tartar, crispy sea bass, and pistachio tilapia). All beautifully presented and tasty! Great for smaller groups or special occasions. A little pricey for lunch but not out of the realm of NY dining and worth it!
The maitre’d was very rude to my friend in more than one occasion and for no apparent reason. Thankfully our waiter was so lovely and efficient due to our pre-theater time constraints, it made up for it. The food and cocktails were delicious. I would go back and I recommend it!
Always great food, service and ambiance! Never had a bad meal or drink. A real neighborhood gem. Fabulous in warm weather to sit outside and people watch.
Great restaurant,wonderful servers!
A very pleasant environment, the windows all around invite in the natural light during the day. Reservations are honored, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and food excellent. It's become our favorite neighborhood restaurant.
Used to love this place. Food going down hill. Bar tender was very slow. When my wife didn't care for her drink he said a loud "no way" to the server. Just not that good for the price. Try other restaurants in the area. Lots of good ones around it.
I tried this place because I read some ranking of it being one of the best places for brunch in Manhattan and it was a quick walk from the theatre where we were seeing a play. The waiter was oblivious to us, even
though the restaurant had just opened and many tables were still empty. The food arrived promptly. I ordered the Maryland crab cake with poached eggs and a side of crispy bacon. The crab cake was inedible. It was hands down the worst crab cake I have ever been served. It was dry, didn't seem fresh in any respect and plopped down on the plate upside down. The poached eggs were good. My husband had the French toast - also terrible - and recommended against it for the couple seated next to us. The complimentary mini muffins were probably the best part of the meal. I would not return.
Quick service for brunch, good before a matinee show
Service and menu was wonderful, quite noisy though.
Really a great place. Not cheap but for NYC pretty reasonable. As usual drinks add up pretty quickly, lol
I have been going to this neighborhood gem for 15 years and have NEVER had a bad meal or a bad experience. This is a special restaurant that continues to deliver an outstanding dining experience.
Good food and bright, contemporary ambience. Lovely lunch spot.
Had the lobster medallion and grilled shrimp appetizer and the snapper entree. From the food to the service to the ambiance, everything was beyond perfect.
Nice venue, great food but a bit over complex for no reason. Great service
The restaurant manages the difficult balance of relaxed elegance. Excellent food and charming service
