We had reservations at this restaurant for August 10 for our group of 5. When we arrived, the restaurant was closed. We went next door to Hell's Kitchen 44 X who told us it had been closed for over one month. No notification to us was made and I am still getting requests to book again and for feedback. Terrible.
Restaurant is closed with no notice. They expected us to eat in another restaurant they own.
Arrived at restaurant to find they had been permanently closed for about a week already and I was never notified in order to make other plans.
We made a reservation and our party of four was seated immediately. Restaurant was very crowded due to pride day, so reservation was a good idea. Muffins served to the table as we sat. Attentive waiter took our drink and appetizer orders and then we waited for a long time before they came. Same long wait for our main dishes. Ordered eggs Benedict and the dish came over cooked. Same result for my wife's Benedict. Possibly due to the day, the restaurant was very noisy and boisterous. We have eaten there before and this was the first time we were disappointed. It is not a cheap restaurant.
Ugh ... I really wanted to like this. I had been a long time ago and LOVED and thought it would be a no-brainer choice to take my friend visiting from overseas. But what happened?! Food was ok but service was seriously lack lustre. It was Pride Parade day ... is that where all the good servers were? Slow, inattentive and generally not interested in our experience. Unfortunately there are now too many other good options in the area to try again. Has 44 1/2 had its day? I hope not.
Great service and the food was fresh, hot, and tasty. Yum!
Really disappointing experience. Extremely slow service. Food was bland and overpriced. Would not recommend.
New American were it is all about flavor and pairing different textures to the dishes. The truffle gnocchi was the most delicious recipe. They melt in mouth - a potato cloud. Though I wish the portion size a bit bigger for the price. Sat inside although they do have an outside tables in the back.
Great find in Hell’s Kichen, we sat in the back courtyard, enjoyable outside space. Food was tasty - enjoyed the roasted organic chicken and chopped salad.
Loved this restaurant! Wonderful seat in backyard gardening. Amazing food. Fabulous and friendly service. Will definitely return again and again
There’s so much you want to like, but the food is over complicated with so many element it’s almost comical. My haddock was dry and overcooked. The portions are also much too large. Too bad they don’t focus on quality instead of quantity. However, the back garden is lovely.
Staff was FANTASTIC! I believe my server was Chris. My girlfriend and I were running late and he made sure we got our food tout de suite. We had enough time to enjoy our food and make our show. Food was delicious and the location was on point! Will be back 😁
Went with a friend for Sunday brunch before theater. While the food (nice sized portion) was delicious and the service was good, the noise level was pretty intense.
Lots of male testosterone seemed to overtake the pleasant ambience.
Next time, I would prefer sitting in the lovely patio...if the weather is nicer.
44 1/2 is a gem! I have had 4 meals here and all of them been excellent. Steak is cooked to your preference and is always perfectly spot on. Great place and reasonable for NYC.
We have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed in the quality or quantity of the food.
The staff is wonderful as is the service
Good, but too hot in the restaurant
Service during Saturday brunch was not good. Waiter had to take our order twice, stating someone stole his pad. More than one dish came out incorrectly. Long lapses of no attention for more water, condiments, check, etc.
Fab as always never have a bad meal or experience here my NY favorite
Went to celebrate my daughters birthday. We were a large party so made a reservation for 7pm. We received a confirmation of that reservation only to arrive and be told that our dinner time was at 7:30. The host blamed me and said I must have made it at that time. I showed him the confirmation from open table but he said we still had to wait. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks but the bar didn’t have any more martini glasses. We had to wait or change drinks. We finally got our drinks only to be told the table was ready. They wouldn’t move the drinks to a dinner tab and no one carried our drinks over to the table (we hadn’t even drank from them yet). They squeezed us into a table where one person had to sit at the end putting them in the way of the server’s station. There was no acknowledgement of a Birthday celebration (which has always occurred when we noted it as such). Food was good and the service was ok. There was no extra effort by the staff to turn our experiences around. Overall disappointing. Given the many many choices in NY, we won’t go back.
Temperature was very u comfortable. Air conditioner was not working very well. Lange door to open air patio area was opened every few minutes. Meat and fish was a bit over cooked otherwise meal was fine.
As in our three previous dining experiences there: wonderfully friendly, polite, appropriately attentive wait service; good food from an interesting menu; good drinks; no rush, no hassle. really just a good place to eat, meet friends and family, have an enjoyable time out. highly recommended.
Brunch was nothing spectacular. The place was pretty dead which always affects my experience negatively.
Salads were good, and the fish entree got good reviews, but avoid the crab cake; mostly potatoes, and I doubt it's real crab.
One of our favorite neighborhood places for Sunday brunch. The food is always good and the drink list is fun. We had family in town and the always-friendly staff made everyone feel welcome, comfortable. Assume the blue tarp over the garden is temporary?
I have patronized and enjoyed this restaurant many times with family, friends, and on dates. Something has clearly changed. Our server had absolutely NO personality, could have cared less that we were going to the theatre (it was an evening reservation); barely remained a second to ask how our meals were: they were average to terrible. Person who served meals asked if pepper was wanted; shook the grinder/nothing emerged twice. He was in too big a hurry to care. The appetizers (and drinks) were simply awful (tuna tartare was void of any tuna (it was more of a salad), fish entrees were ok but nothing to make me ever return again. So sad. The whole experience was depressing.
Love this place! Great food, attentive and handsome staff!
Unable to load pics from iPhone??
All was perfect except when leaving, we were sort of rushed out due to a table nestled into our seating and I was unable to return to my seat from the rest room due to a new party of 4 actually blocking my entrance.
The waiters were exceptional, food was very good.
The food was outstanding and we had wonderful waitstaff... the “foodie” of our group was impressed with our restaurant selection.
We will be back!
The menu was more like a breakfast menu. The waiter was very friendly and attentive.
Disastrous experience, meat is not great - everything from Kobe burger to pork loin it shot ribs- and waiting time for meal way too long
we had a reservation for three and were seated a small table in back garden > it was extremely cramped. The person at our table sitting on the outside was getting bumped by waiters, busboys and patrons. He was even asked by a server to please move! there was nowhere to GO> We finally addressed this with management and were very begrudgingly moved to a table in back corner. This may have nothing to do with the fact that our order became very slow. We had a 6 o'clock reservation and an 8 o'clock show. We were served apps at 6:30 and did not get entrees until 7:10! No dessert for Us.
the food was fine, service awful!
Not quite perfect. We love both 44 1/2 and its sister restaurant 44 and X, despite the pricing, which is a little high. Food at both is always very fresh and creative. Although the shared fried calamari appetizer was nothing special, all of our entrees were terrific. Particular high marks for the stuffed red snapper, an outstanding dish. However, the restaurant needs to be more considerate of groups of 3 people. We were offered two tables, both of which were really designed for two people with the third chair on the end. It detracts from a wonderful experience.
We had 3 generations celebrating Mothers' Day and a birthday, and all 3 enjoyed the restaurant, which is tough to do! The service was friendly, the food was amazing, and the prices were very reasonable. While we found the tables to be a little close, staff did a fantastic job of spacing out patrons as long as they could, which allowed us to enjoy the majority of our meal without feeling encroached upon by another party. Would definitely recommend to friends -- this is a true gem!
Been here a couple of times and the food is average. The service is usually good, but this go around was slow. We were told that the computer had gone down. Can understand, but they could have told us things were backed up
There so much to like here:skillful bartender and well-made cocktails, a beautiful back garden, and some delicious food. However, you’re at the mercy of whichever waiter you end up with. Ours, sadly, was so perfunctory that we couldn’t help wondering if he was having a poor day or just didn’t like his job. We’ll be back, hoping we get a different server who acts like he’s at least professionally happy that we’re spending our money here.
We all enjoyed every single thing. From the yummy cocktails, to the warm and fragrant rolls, to the braised ribs, halibut, and salmon; loved it all.
What an amazing find. Needed to find a place to accommodate our company dinner at the last minute. They handled a semi-boisterous group with ease and made the night memorable. Food was top notch and service was outstanding. Looking forward to a return visit.
Food and service were good, but we did have to send back one of our entrees as it was very undercooked. Portions are extremely big and we could not finish our starters nor our entrees.
Additionally, the restaurant did not have our reservation we made through Open Table. Luckily, they were able to seat us.
This restaurant always has delicious food, fantastic drinks and the staff are super friendly even during a busy Sunday Brunch!
What a lovely dining experience! Beautiful, comfortable, lovely attentive staff and the owner is a real doll. We had a great time and everything was delicious: from the bread and drinks to the starter and main course. Sadly, we didn't have room for dessert but this is my second time here so I can say the desserts are great too! I'll be back. I highly recommend.
