Great service and ambiance. Excellent starters. Fried fish unseasoned and some spicy seasoning would have augmented flavor but grilled coices excellent!!!

Everyone and everything was amazing except the fried oysters. They were way over cooked and bland. All other food was very good though.

two mahi mahi dishes were fair, the grilled one was fishy tasting the blackened one looked and tasted as if someone dropped the jar of seasoning on it.

oyster rockefellers were good, the cioppino was very good and the gumbo was fair.

key lime pie tasted like it was made from a box mix.

For years we avoided this place as a tourist trap but we have been back several times in the last year and have been very impressed. Though you feel like you are in a time warp, nothing beats the hushpuppies that greet you at the beginning of the meal. My ahi tuna and cioppino were 5 star dishes; my wife's swordfish was cooked to perfection. We have had a variety of seafood dishes at this restaurant and have been very pleased every time. The wait staff is outstanding and this place can accommodate a table for 2 as well as a table for 10. First class establishment. Highly recommended.

Went for Mother's Day...soooo glad I had made reservations! Not my first time to this restaurant, so I went with full confidence. They did not disappoint. Drinks, food & service were perfect and couldn't have asked for more. It was a bit on the loud side, but the restaurant was full of families celebrating their Mom's, so it is to be expected and can't fault the restaurant. Had a wonderful time and will, no doubt, return...again & again & again!

We went to 42nd Street Oyster Bar to celebrate a graduation. We arrived 1 hour early as the graduation was not as long as we expected. We assumed we would wait at the bar, but was pleasantly surprised that they were able to accommodate us in just a few minutes. The oysters were outstanding and the bisque is always spot on! The crab and artichoke dip was yummy! Crab cakes were fine, but not exceptional. The fried shrimp was also good, but again nothing exceptional. Steaks were cooked perfect and the salad before the meal was much better than the average house salad! Our service was 5 star from start to finish! Our server Kenny was on top of everything even though he was finishing up another large table. Our only service complaint was that even though we only requested 2 tickets for a party of 9, the split was completely wrong. We felt bad when we realized it after looking at our check later on, because our friends paid about $40 more than they should have. Even so, Kenny did a great job, which showed in a 30% tip! Will return again!

The restaurant is very loud, so be prepared to shout at each other. I got the shrimp and grits. The grits were so clumpy, so my dinner was meh. The key lime pie however was delicious. Not the best meal for the price.

Well need less to say the food was outstanding I had the NC swordfish grilled it's was mouth watering good the mash potatoes was the best mashed potatoes I had ever had! My husband had fried cat fish and shrimp and he said he's plate was delicious! He ate every bite! For a starter we had calamari hand's down the best calamari my husband and I have had! And we LOVE calamari! This place is a little on the price side but well worth it.. nice atomsphere well kept clean bathrooms I love the fact we can see the chefs cooking the food. It let's me know they take pride in there food and that the kitchen will be kept up to code over great food and atmosphere! Will be going again for sure

I love 42nd Oyster Bar. This is a place that my family, friends come on many occasions. Friday, was my birthday, and it was of 9. The food was GREAT as always, but the waiter was a bit Overwhelmed :-( Don't know if this was her first large party, but she really couldn't keep up. We had to remind her of the little things that can make a meal distasteful. Not trying to get anyone in trouble, just for your FYI.

Also, the location that we were sitting in, it was extremely chilly! We did ask to have the air turned down because it was blowing right on us, they said it was turned downed...really couldn't tell in the temp. I'm the cold one, and when (3) of my friends said they were cold then it was a problem.

Overall!! I enjoyed myself and will be back again, sitting in a different spot.

42nd Street Oyster Bar has perfected seafood over the 87 years of its existence, and this was evident in the flavor and quality of our meals. Service was simply adequate, as our server appeared to spend a lot of time chatting with "regulars." (Service at 42nd Street is usually very good.) As expected on a crowded Saturday night, the noise level was high.

We were visiting NC State with our daughter and looked up seafood restaurants. 42nd Street Oyster Bar came up as a great restaurant. We decided to have dinner there. The PEI mussels were some of the best we have ever had. My daughter had the steak and said it was delicious. My husband and I had seafood. Highly recommend the restaurant
