Brynn Hagnes is very good waiter and recommends great food / wine / beer for us. Especially we are tourists from Taiwan & Japan & China and first to 42nd Street Oyster restaurant.
Server was great food amazing. Loved the vibe.
I always enjoy going here. The food is good if not great, and the fish always seems fresh. Service is efficient and it has a great ambiance. Having left town, I hadn’t been here in a year or so.
One thing I noticed that was great - on the beer list, the NC beers are listed in red. Makes it easy to find something if that’s what you want.
Very attentive service by Michael. Loved that our drinks were never empty. He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Food was delivered hot and was very tasty.
Been there 2 weeks in a row on a Sunday. Once with my daughter the second was a date nite with my wife, the service and food was excellent, I like to give our waitress, Brianna, a great shoutout, thanking her for a great time and excellent and very upbeat waitress, her service to us was excellent. And and very lovely attitude, thanks again , we see you again soon. .. savoy and Renee miller
42nd Street Oyster Bar is one of the best Raleigh places to eat great and fresh seafood. Service is outstanding and people are super friendly. Always a pleasure for lunch and dinner or just hanging out at the bar. Listening to the music and having a drink.
Great oysters, drinks and service!
We were seated a few minutes earlier than our reservation which is unusual but certainly nice. Service and food were great. Was not disappointed.
Definitely worth it, fresh seafood prepared well. Great service and attention to detail. Great Oyster Selection!
Excellent waiter, Michael ! The food was very good and fresh. We enjoyed it very much
It was my first time dining at 42nd St and was very underwhelmed with my Seared Mahi entrée. It was slightly overcooked and there was too much pineapple salsa served on top which took away from enjoying fresh fish. I would have expected a high end restaurant to use it as a subtle complement but not to drown the fish in it. The sautéed mixed vegetables were very overcooked and mushy and lacked variety. There were eight of us dining and I sampled other meals which were average given the prices. The best thing going for this restaurant are raw oysters and crab legs.
Was having dinner with friend and business meeting. We had dinner there one other time and friend wanted a repeat. Never a disappointment. Great food and service. Did not rush us.
We went this week to celebrate 2 work birthdays. The appetizers were good overall, especially the bacon wrapped scallops and the seafood dip with pita crisps. All of us were disappointed in our entrees. After the apps, I elected to get a spinach salad with shrimp ($17). I got a mound of fresh spinach with some red onion and 3 slices of cucumber, with 6 small/med shrimp on top. The shrimp looked like they had been frozen and thawed, and the texture was mushy. No bacon, no hard boiled egg, no tomato, etc. 2 of my co workers also got shrimp and were also disappointed in the texture. It wasn't awful, just disappointing, and we did not complain to our waiter or to a manager. If I go back, I think I will stick to a "tapas" type of experience, with multiple appetizers to share instead of entrees. Atmosphere was good, and the place was packed. Maybe an off night for whomever was on "shrimp duty?"
Everything was awsome! Would recommend it for anyone!
The evening and the food were wonderful! The food was delicious and the service excellent.
We are leaving the Triangle for Colorado and wanted to go to The 42nd Street Oyster Bar one last time. The Bar did not disappoint! Great Food, Great Service, Great Experience! I only wish the Bar was closer to our new home!
My family and I celebrated my 60th birthday at 42nd and had a great time. The food was excellent and the service was top notch. The atmosphere was lively enough to be fun, but my party and I could still engage in conversation. Forty Second has long been a go to in my family for special occasions!
Packed for a Wednesday night out, glad we had the reservation. Great portions, not an overwhelming number of menu items, comfortable atmosphere. Our waiter Blake was very helpful with the menu options, ingredients and alternatives. Nice meal over the course of almost 2 hrs, never felt rushed to turn the table.
We really enjoyed ourselves, the server was fantastic and very knowledgeable of the menu. We had 6 people, the only thing that could have been better is to be away from the restrooms. My wife isn't comfortable around them, but if this is the only bad thing, then the night was fantastic. Most of us had the sampler, with shrimp, scallops and fresh fish. All was great, best Scallops I've ever had. I'm definitely coming back, but will ask for a table away from the restrooms. This is actually the second time with a group, we got that table. Thanks to 42nd for a wonderful 60th celebration dinner.
Unfortunately, this restaurant has really slipped in quality of food and service. The service was not good. Server forgot parts of order and had to ask repeatedly for things. Won’t be going back. Much better places now in Raleigh.
First time back in many years as we were visiting the area for college tours. Manager found out it was our first time back in a long time and allowed us to have our pick of any available table in the restaurant.
Neither food nor the experience were worth the price. Calamari was over breaded. Salmon over cooked. Wasabi on tuna watered down . Bacon wrapped scallops good. Shrimp good. Waiter forgot our oysters, brought me the wrong soup, brought my husband the wrong meal, and forgot requested side for my daughter then told me he didnt bring it because it would be too spicy for her. Will not return. Very disappointed.
The best seafood place in Raleigh and one of the only seafood restaurant in the area, been numerous times, live music on the weekends...
Seated promptly, service great! Food and beverage outstanding. Thanks for a great evening!
Everything was good exept the waitress was a bit rude and we felt like she wanted to rush us out because we were only having tapas & drinks.
Delicious, awesome atmosphere, and a great spot for a date
We always enjoy 42nd Street! Food and service is always great although this latest time our server was hard to hear. I wish the live music would start earlier than 10 :)
I hadn't been here and years and last time I was not impressed with all the fried food. They've updated their menu with the times and I loved it. The tuna bites were a little over cooked but good. I had the house salad and spicy steamed shrimp which was perfect. My guests had sautéed shrimp and seared tuna which they also loved. John was our waiter and did a top notch job. I'm glad I came back and will again. Just a classic restaurant.
Able to make reservations online. Everything was delicious. Service was perfect. Loud and crowded, not for children. With drinks and seafood, plan on spending $100.00.
Hadn't been there in years!! Great food and oyster bar! Very spacious! We'd recommend for any REAL sea food lover. Will be returning many times....
Would recommend the same for you and yours.
I really enjoyed the oysters and wish I’d gotten more! Next time I’m just going to get several appetizers to share rather than an entree.
This place was amazing food was great the service was wonderful
Great experience, although the server forgot my baked potato with my meal but other than that everything was good.
We have been going to 42nd Street for years. It’s great food and a lively atmosphere. We always reserve a booth and feel cozy and right at home. The seafood is excellent and the wait staff top notch. We always expect the best and have never been disappointed.
Over priced! Ordered a dozen oysters paid $33 oysters were poor quality
Food, as always, was delicious.
We had 42nd Street oysters, bacon wrapped scallops, twice baked potatoes and tuna.
Great food. Great service. A bit noisy, so not the place for quiet conversations.
Wonderful time as always and the oysters and steamed spiced shrimp were delicious!
The seafood at the 42nd St. Oyster Bar is very fresh and very good. I had fried oysters that were prepared to perfection. As an appetizer, I had the New England Clam Chowder, which was very good.
Great food- traditional fried seafood with an extra touch plus options not available at your typical seafood restaurant. Very good vegetables too! Always too full to try desserts, they look terrific
