42nd Street Oyster Bar has perfected seafood over the 87 years of its existence, and this was evident in the flavor and quality of our meals. Service was simply adequate, as our server appeared to spend a lot of time chatting with "regulars." (Service at 42nd Street is usually very good.) As expected on a crowded Saturday night, the noise level was high.
The service was fantastic! We were a party of 8 and our server Shannon was on top of things. She kept up with our refills, answered any questions very knowledgeable and was very friendly and courteous. She was great, definitely a gem!
Always great seafood and great service. The grilled Ahi Tuna was fantastic!
We were visiting NC State with our daughter and looked up seafood restaurants. 42nd Street Oyster Bar came up as a great restaurant. We decided to have dinner there. The PEI mussels were some of the best we have ever had. My daughter had the steak and said it was delicious. My husband and I had seafood. Highly recommend the restaurant
Good food. Trout had too much stuff on it. Reservation was timely. Local beer selection good
Service was terrific - I believe our server's name was Brynn
Very wide-ranging menu. Lackluster food. Friendly service. Interesting venue.
Wonderful WONDERFUL WONDERFUL. I CANT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I REALLY LUV THIS PLACE. GREAT JOB 42nd.
The 42nd Street Oyster Bar has not followed the habit of many long-standing restaurants in the Raleigh area that enlist consultants poorly schooled in local traditions and food preferences. The fair has been consistently great for the last 45 years that I have dined there. Thank you!
Best seafood in Raleigh! Oysters Rockefeller is outstanding.
It was amazing as always. The food was perfection and the service was great. We sat in the back under an air vent which was a bit uncomfortable because it was chilly. Otherwise, this place was awesome!
42nd Street kept to the reservation time even though it was very busy. Food and service worth it but not enough parking.
Great service and fantastic food!
noise level a bit much; lighting a little low for eating but overall a great place to eat . service was great.
Excellent food and service. Kaitlyn was great!
Awesome place to eat! We love going to 42 street all the time!
Just okay seafood dishes, especially for the price. Very bland shrimp and grits dinner. Won’t make the effort to go again.
Great overall, love food and atmosphere.
One issue was the draft beer. Most establishments serve pints (16 ounces) unless otherwise noted. 42nd Street uses 12 ounce glasses. Their prices are indicative of pints but are not pints... disappointing.
This place has been around for years but remains a consistently good place to dine for seafood in Raleigh, NC. Highly recommend.
A must visit if you are in Raleigh!
There were 6 of us. We were seated in a booth within a couple of feet from a very large and noisy party making it hard to talk. Also, 3 out of the 6 of us did not care for our food. Probably will not go back.
Awesome!! Great food as always
First time dining here. Will definitely return when visiting the area again.
Was a great time! Took a few "first timers ". They lived it
Very Great experience and I love this place! They never disappoint!
We decided to have dinner here based upon the recommendations we saw online. The food and service were good. We opted to have raw oysters at the oyster bar prior to dinner. We had heard that there were oyster specials at the bar but that turned out not to be the case. I called to find out if there were 1/2 price oysters and the woman on the phone said yes, from 5-7pm. However, we were billed full price for the oysters and were told there was no 1/2 price deal. We had the grilled salmon for dinner and were pleased that it was not overcooked. Would not recommend the Oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer, it was dry and unappealing. There was no discernible Pernod or bacon and the spinach looked as if it has been sitting on the oysters for hours. Key Lime Pie dessert -- highly recommend.
50th birthday for my dad. Sat at the bar, had oysters and crab legs - delicious!!! Great for the price, left with bully belly and happy heart :) Guys working the bar were polite and did great job - we never had to ask for anything! Highly recommend, will continue going back.
This event was one of our annual girls get togethers! current and past employees who all have worked together at one time or another. This was the perfect spot for a group of ladies with a lot of energy! The food was great! The servers were great! 42nd street is on the short list for a return visit! Oh! ya gotta get soft shell crab... and maybe have a little bit more room for large groups!
Fresh oysters drew us to choose 42nd Street and we were not disappointed. We chose bar seating and Server/Shucker Austin was the perfect host to guide us through the many menu choices. After local (NC) half shells, we devoured a peck of perfectly roasted bivalves and then, based on Austin's recommendation, we shared a seafood bisque that was heavenly, rich and full of crabby goodness. The Mahi bites were divine and perfect with the spicy dipping sauce. Although the menu offered many other tempting treats, alas, we were topped off and will have to look forward to those in the future. All in all, 42nd Street still ranks in our top Raleigh restaurant choices, years after our first visit.
I Took my grandson because he loves crab. He had been a picky eater the entire trip so with what this dinner was costing, I could only hope he loved crab as much as he declared he did.
Unlike me, he avoided the amazing hushpuppies, to save room. I am pleased to say that he cleaned his plate. The Crab Cakes were perfect meaning not too spicy and loaded with crab,
Slaw and cheese potato as sides were were perfect with our meal. I left with half of one crab cake and the remaining Hushpuppies. Great Meal, and service, in a historic setting.
I was very disappointed with my experience. The service was average; the server came by once after the food was served and we were sitting with dirty dishes in front of us for quite some time. Our dinner was to celebrate a birthday and noted it when I made the reservation was made and confirmed it when we arrived....The server never offer desert for us and I had to remind her that were celebrating a birthday; only then did she say, "I'm buying you desert for your birthday" and never her happy birthday. All of us agreed that the food was "OK" and not worth what it cost. VERY disappointed and probably will not recommend it
Everything was awesome! My only complaint was that I ate too much and left too full to order dessert! DELICIOUS! I will bring all of my out of town guests here from now on.
Really, REALLY great seafood! Loved the fried oysters so much, we had to get a second order. We normally won't order "Maryland" crab cakes anywhere outside of Maryland, but this place GETS IT RIGHT! Wish we lived closer so we could go more often, but it's SO worth the drive! :-)
As usual wonderful and as always good service. Relaxing atmosphere
Easter dinner. Friendly service
Great service. Food was excellent. Will come back
Great tome and good.
