42nd Street Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
This was my first time coming to this restaurant. My husband and I came here for date night. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the shrimp and crab legs... After we ate, we walked over to the live band, and danced and laughed for a bit and then we left. It was such a great experience! We will definitely be back!
I have no idea why this restaurant is so popular among Raleigh residents. I do love it that it's an old time establishment, how ever the food is a dud. When your cocktails are the best thing about the meal, you know you're in trouble. If you going to call your self an oyster bar- then do it right. My oysters rockefeller was like pulling teeth-literally. The oysters were not shucked appropriately to easily enjoy such a dish-the oyster were completely attached to the shell. I also ordered the oyster stew- okay cream mixed with oysters doesn't automatically qualify for oyster stew- it was completely tasteless, Thank goodness I told the waitress as she deducted it off our bill. My husband ordered the cioppino -we've had successful dishes elsewhere -42nd street's attempt was a failure-a bowl piled high with shrimp in a bland tomato base doesn't cut it -it was void of any white fish and very little mussles. 42nd Street Oyster bar may have the allegiance of its local residents, but this outsider will most certainly not return.
Nostalgic and comfortable... 42nd Street never disappoints. Seafood and steaks are delicious and any selection is a good choice. It was a Saturday night, yet not exceptionally busy- a few empty tables, no line waiting in vestibule. Normally, service is attentive. Server must have been new or flustered. Repeatedly forgot to drop off the basic essentials (cocktail sauce, finger towel and claw cracke for crabs, tartar sauce) and was slow to take order or check on us. By the time entree arrived, I was full on hushpuppies and 3 raw oysters.
I always come here and I put in my reservation that we request to be seated with “5”. He is a awesome waiter I enjoy the care and attention he gives to me and my family. We live all the way in Butner, NC so this is not a small trip to come out and eat especially after getting off from working a 12 + hours at work and we want to have a quiet date night with good service. “5” is extremely knowledgeable makes recommendations that makes our dinner short and sweet. Long story short we want who want as a server for a reason and we were very disappointed we were not seated with him. He is well worth a wait
Kelvin and I came to celebrate his 33rd Birthday. The food was AMAZING!! We arrived late for our 8:45 reservation and were still seated immediately. Our server was FANTASTIC! The band was LOVE!! The music was great!! The hostess reminded the young lady that seated us about his birthday and she neglected to tell our server. He apologized and offered Kelvin a free dessert that was the BOMB!! I'm a native of Raleigh. I've slept on you all as this was my first time coming because of my Shellfish allery. I don't know about Kelvin but, I will definitely be back!
